  1. Sorry cant help you about the steps though.
  2. I am 52 and married. My husband surprisingly was a big help. A 10 year old can help with whatever you will need. I am retired, but I wouldnt have wanted to go back to work before 1 week. The day of surgery I was groggy and came home and tried to nap. The phone kept me awake but I was fine. I took my pain meds for about 3 days. Most of the pain was from the gas settling in my chest and upper back. You will be able to cook, but it wouldnt hurt to have some things in the freezer to get you by for a few days. I was surprised that it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Hope that helps, I know everyone is different and heals at a different pace.

    Eggs

When we scramble eggs at our house we use a couple spoons lowfat cottage cheese. No milk or water. You get more protein that way too,and there good.

What is going in with my body!

I had left side pain for about 2 weeks. I assume it is because that is where the band is actually on my stomach. I was banded 8-8-07. The growling noises went away about at the 2 week point. Everything has to re-adjust itself, its been all moved around. I have little restriction right now unless I eat too much and then it hurts. They say you dont get a lot of restriction until you start getting fils.

    Swimming

told me I could swim 2 weeks post op,as long as incisions were closed. They were and steristrips had come off (staples out at 7 days) so I have swimmed everyday since then. I immediately come in and wash with antibacterial soap, just as a precaution tho.

    Sad and scared

Hi...I had surgery 8-8. I have had several days that I wondered if I had made the right decision and what I have done?? As time goes on more and more doctors will have to become educated on the band. There are getting to be too many people that are getting it. I suspect in your area there will be more doctors that do the surgery in time. Take it a day at a time, thats what I had to tell myself the first few days especially. Thats all you can do. Take care and good luck.

    On the road ideas???

I do deli turkey, a bit of mustard and wrap around string cheese. Really good. The cream cheese would just be more protein!

What can I snack on ?

sugar free Jello cup Yoplait light Yogurt Chopped Walnuts In a wine glass, half of the jello chopped up,1/4 container Yogurt, other half Jello,1/4 container Yogurt and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. 35 calories I believe plus walnuts. I usually make one for my husband too and that way I dont have to save the 1/2 yogurt. Black Cherry Jello+Very vanilla Yogurt is good

    On the road ideas???

Our Dollar General/Family Dollar in this area has a package of a little tuna/ham/chicken (your choice) salad and a little pack of crackers. We keep them in our RV. Not sure of calorie/protein/fat content tho. They are $1.10. Cant beat that. Also StarKist has the little 2.8oz cans of plain tuna. Scranle up some eggs with cheese or hard boiled eggs and put them in an ice cooler. I recently did the scrambled eggs and took them on vacation with us. Warm up real good in the microwave. Stay safe

Medicare doctor in KS or MO?

If you call the hospital you can ask them who is authorized to do bariatric surgery at their hospital. Call them and see if they take Medicare. Is this the list you were looking at? Bariatric Surgery

    New LB-er, 3 weeks out

For the adhesive try Skin So Soft or Neosporin..something oily. Just dont rub real hard IN the incision, just around it. I had staples for a week and now steristrips. It looks like the strips are going to scar too! Congrats on your lose!!

    Got banded in Springfield MO??

Ask him if they stitch the band to your stomach. When can you go swimming? When will they let you start your regular meds & vitamins? Will they use staples or stitches on your incisions? Those are questions I had, everyones Dr on here seems to have a different approach. Different length or preop/postop liquid diets and so on.
  20. GNC has Isopure, some of it isnt too bad..expensive tho.
  21. Read the book Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink. Go talk to a pyschologist (sp) that specializes in eating disorders. This is hard emotionally. Try to find other things to do that do not involve food. You wont believe how much it is a part of our lives. Every commercial on TV is food. This could very well be one of the hardest things you have ever done.
  22. I am a BIG Pink Floyd fan. I was very wild in High School. I was IN an abusive relationship, that luckily I was smart enough to get out of alive.
  23. I had salt cravings also, and ate some plain salt- I know it sounds gross, weird and unhealthy, but I would just put a little bit on my palm and use my opposite index finger to 'eat' it. It really cut down the cravings. I ate salt last night. I couldnt stand it any longer, I needed it. My Dr just had me on 2 days of liquids. I am 4 days post op now, and yes this is one of the hardest things I have been through too. The TV shows.... everyones eating and all the commercials are food. I just need to remember that soon I will be able to eat people food...just not as much.
  24. As I was standing there deciding which pain med to take.....I thought I did this willingly? My chest is killing me, so is my upper back. I am starved. The dietician from the hospital today called, said my Protein and Fluid consumption is great. I get CREAM Soups Sunday. I cant wait! I am so glad I came in and read these posts. I was getting depressed. whoa is me. I keep thinking of the people that say they do go on to eat normal stuff....just less. Why did I let myself get sooo fat that I needed this?
  25. Something that is saving me is one of those microwaveable neck wraps. I have been warming it for 75 seconds and laying it on my chest. Feels wonderful
