Has anybody had their surgery paid for by Medicare?
2bthinagn replied to sghatl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just posted this on another thread. Medicare wouldnt pay my hospital stay because on lapband they only cover the hospital bill if it is an overnite stay. The hospital says they are writing it off. I hope they pay the surgeon bill! -
A place for bandsters in their 60's
2bthinagn replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just an FYI. I had surgery 8-8-07 at a Center of Excellence. Medicare would not pay the hospital bill because they said with lapband they only cover the hospital if it is an overnite stay. How much sense does that make? So far the hospital says they wrote off the whole $20,000+. So just beware. I havent heard from the surgeons office, hopefully Medicare did cover that, if not I am in a heap of hurt. -

I am excited. Went on a girls vacation and was gone almost 2 weeks and drumroll please............I LOST 3 LBS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I have lost a total of 30 since this all started YEAH ! ! ! THANKS I had to share that! -
Means sterile strips. I did cut mine with little scissors as they became detached, but thats it. Let them come off completely on their own. My worst scars are from the staples. I am sure it wont look any worse than my gallbladder or breast biopsy scar.

It is gallbladder removal surgery.

Doesnt your doctor have you on 2 days of liquids? -
Way to go Mary!!! Thats great. Maybe at next meeting you will have to give us a demonstration...lol., The scale says I am at a standstill. I am going to go get a fill Friday. Everyone here says that on my size band the 1st fill doesnt do much restriction, so I figured I will get it out of the way and I should be safe on vacation.

Hi Edie, I was a lurker for quite awhile. I always enjoyed reading about the "oldtimers" or "experienced bandsters". All of you helped me make my decision. When they changed the format here, it seemed I lost alot. I dont see posts from you,Wheetsin,or Carlene anymore! Maybe I am not looking on the right threads. You have been an inspiration. I look forward to losing and having energy again also. Thanks so much!!!

I didnt tell my primary care doctor until 2 weeks after banding. I didnt need his approval for my insurance to pay. He can be short and abrupt and I didnt want to listen to him. I have heard people say that their doctor didnt want them to do it, because once they get in better health and off of their meds they dont need their primary care doctor as much. At 52 I felt like I was running out of time to do anything to make a difference. What happens after you stop taking the diet meds???

I had sooo many delays along the way, it didnt click for me until I had the surgery date. Then it really clicked several days before actual surgery. Good Luck.

Did they weigh you on surgery day?
2bthinagn replied to mermaidpuppy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And I never thought about it I was so nervous. Wish they would have! -
I had a breast biopsy several years ago and had a stitch like that on 1 end. I tried to pull it. It wouldn't come out and now that end of my scar is bumped up and is still red. Leave it be.

Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?
2bthinagn replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I havent heard that here before. Maybe if the calorie intake wasnt reduced so alarmingly, that is what made the difference. Humm, something to think about. From what I had read to this point, sounded like it didnt matter what shampoo you used, what supplement you took, what you ate..you were gonna experience hairloss. Thanks for the info. To me I always thought it couldnt be the anesthesia because I have had numerous surgeries and havent had a problem with any hairloss. I already shed now,and if I blow dry my naturally curly hair, at my bangs you can see my scalp. Maybe I will just shave my head! -

Kansas LapBand Topeka-Lawrence Area
2bthinagn replied to pwhitecloud@hug's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Did you check on Tallgrass in Topeka? I was going to go with them. But, a Shawnee Mission Hosp got approval for my insurance before Tallgrass could. I have also heard of a Dr in Denver on here that has a good price also. Goodluck....it is a bumpy journey due to insurance! -
Mine is from initial Psych eval. Which just happens to be my highest ever.

Why Can't I Get Anyone To Help Me??
2bthinagn replied to feelnpurdy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that Medicare covers lapband, I dont know about Medicaid. Look around on this site, there are 7 hospitals in Illinois that are Medicare approved facilities. The hospital must be certified as a Center of Excellence. If you dont find your answer here call one of the hospitals and talk to their Bariatric Department and ask them. I know it is frustrating goodluck. Bariatric Surgery
