Insured - still had to pay everything up front
Careysgirl replied to songsmith's topic in Insurance & Financing
Is the hospital a private one? Why are they not billing? I live in NJ have been in hospitals and surgery centers for procedures they never took money up front I just find it strange. -
I have been exercising maintenance afraid of denial for loosing too much weight as of now I lost about 26 lbs and my BMI is 39 and it started at 44. I have to see cardiologist tomorrow for results on stress test and echo for clearance letter and then everything will be sent to insurance. Once I get approved and get a date I'll work on loosing even more weight to prepare for surgery. They say the lighter you are the faster recovery. It can't come soon enough the summer is coming and I'm praying to take off at the very least 50 lbs by then.

DENIED... AGAIN!???? (peer to peer soon)
Careysgirl replied to Sandra86says's topic in Insurance & Financing
Sending prayers and hoping you get approved soon. -
I went to see my surgeon today it was also the last required appointment with NUT. All required testing are completed the blood work, EKG, chest X ray, H-pylori breath test, sleep study, cardiologist clearance, psychiatrist clearance, psychologist clearance. All my paperwork will be submitted to my insurance company and now I just have to wait to see if I'm approved for surgery. Doctor said the patient navigator will be giving me a call with surgery date. Time went by fast and another 1 or 2 won't hurt to wait for decision.

What state are you in? Are you NJ BCBS?
-
Well I found out that my package has not yet been sent for approval to BCBS. The surgeon is waiting for clearance from the cardiologist and I have an appointment to see her on 02/11/16. The patient navigator said as soon as they get that the surgeon will sign off on it and then it will be sent out for approval. And the wait continues.....

Sharon if you have ever awaken yourself from from sleep because you heard yourself snoring that's one of the signs you have sleep apnea. -
So happy for you! I look for that day to come for me too.

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
Careysgirl replied to Awjones28's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was discussing this journey of mine with my husband and he said a stupid thing tonight "Why don't you just eat an apple a day for a month and you'll lose weight" ......that's how ridiculous people are sometimes. -
So what if, when all the information and notes are collected, we tell the doctor's office to give us a copy for our records and fax cover sheet they send (we should be allowed to get it because it's our medical records) and keep it just in case the doctor's office takes their sweet time to send it or something else happened that's causing a delay. If that happens then we can always fax over the info to the insurance company. Is that possible?

January or February 2016 Sleevers?
Careysgirl replied to songsmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery will probably be sometime in February my doctor said on next appt January 28th we will set a date I'm glad this will be happening in winter so by summer when it's hot I'll be lighter. -
So I get a call from the sleep study people and they said they have to verify what's covered by insurance. Does anyone know if the home sleep studies are covered by NJ BCBS?
-
I didn't have study yet don't understand why it's taking so long congrats on your approval! Why didn't BCBS approve you?
-
It's great that your surgery date was scheduled already mine has not been. However, if all goes well I may not have to wait the full six months. My insurance company will accept the weight watchers I was following online prior to seeing the NUT. I don't want to get too excited but if my sleep study is scheduled this month and I get my cardio clearance after the treadmill test on the 18th I may be able to schedule my surgery in February after of course insurance approval.
-
My coordinator has not submitted my paperwork yet because all I have left to do is my sleep study. Let me know how it goes and how soon they get back to you.

Hi I'm in NJ too and my husband has BCBS through his union and I was told the same thing it takes about 30 days for approvals to process.
-
My insurance BCBS through my husbands Union requires 6 months weight loss program that can be WW or Jenny Craig or nutritionist. I have 3 and half months of WW online weigh ins and tomorrow I have my 2nd month NUT visit. Can anyone tell me if I can combine both to count as my 6 months requirement?
-
Yesterday I found out that I might be able to use the weight watchers weigh ins counting towards the 6 months monitored weight loss. So my doctor said on my next visit on January 28th they will put me on the schedule for surgery in February and submit everything to insurance for approval. Hoping it works out February is better than May.

Hi everybody I'm from NJ and I'm in month #2 of my 6 month pre-op diet. I would like to know if anybody has been under the care of and had surgery with NJ Bariatric Center and how was your experience.
