    July 19th!!!

Hey surgery pals! I'm doing great. They kept me an extra day because of vomiting from anesthesia but everything has been smooth sailing since. I'm slowly introducing purees now, but haven't had any food intolerances until this point. Last I weighed I was 20lbs down, but that was 5 days ago so I'm not sure now.

    July 19th!!!

I live in Texas now but am having surgery in New Orleans. They're calling me tomorrow with a reporting time! I moved this past weekend and that knocked me off my not diet diet (shakes+ normal meal) because I needed more energy so I hoping I didn't gain too much. I'm a slow loser and didn't start until the 5th so I'm hoping I didn't do too much damage.
  3. I live in Houston and will be getting sleeved next Wednesday 7/19 in New Orleans. I have a flight back to Houston on July 31st, should I be able to lift a small carry on bag by then? I'm staying with my mom to recover for the first week or so and I don't have any clothes at her house and don't want to leave anything there. It's small enough to go under the seat so I don't have to lift it but my mom is terrified that carrying anything heavier than my purse will hurt me.

    Sleeved 26 June, 22yo

I'm 22 as well, getting sleeved on the 19th!
  5. Hey y'all! I'm July 19th here in New Orleans. It's kind of crazy because so much is happening back to back for me! I'm moving to Houston the Saturday before surgery, driving back to Baton Rouge that Sunday, and surgery is Wednesday. Then I'm flying back on July 31st. Like some of y'all, I don't have a prescribed pre-op diet, I'm just doing low carb for the next 2 weeks then it's all liquids the day before. My surgeon actually explained why she doesn't make patients do liquid diets. She said she tried it after she had a child and cracked after 3 days and doesn't feel right making her patients do something she couldn't do. As long as I'm in a losing mindset for surgery she said I'll be okay because my liver I'll shrink regardless.

    African American Sleevers

Did any of yalls incision scars keloid? I've never had a scar do it before but I'm not sure if it's possible since I don't seem to be prone to it. Also, if you lost any hair did it come back the same way? My mom lost some hair after her sleeve but she's permed and I'm natural so I don't know if her texture changed at all.

    African American Sleevers

Is this thread active any more or is there a group people use now? I'm nearing the end of my process, just waiting on a date.
  10. You articulated a lot of my concerns about surgery. I'm only 22, just graduated from college, and am having cold feet for similar reasons to you. Having the surgery so young presents a whole host of thoughts that people older than us tend not to have-the amount of time to try to lose again on your own, the idea of having something permanent that you'll have to live with for 50+more years, etc. I don't really have a solution to how you're feeling, but I can say you're not alone. I'm not scheduled yet but once I meet with my surgeon next week it's going to be a quick turnaround. My mom has it for around 6 years now and doesn't regret it, and I've scoured so many forums and have yet to find someone who truly regrets it which gives me hope but doesn't completely alleviate my fears.

    Pre-Op Diet

I find the different surgeon recommendations for pre-op diets interesting. I was prepared to have to do a liquid diet, but as far as I know I'm just supposed to maintain or lose weight before surgery and do all liquids the day before. It's recommended to start a low-carb diet before surgery but there's no time frame. I haven't scheduled yet but I'm probably going to start 14 days before. That being said, my surgeon has a kind of conservative post-op diet, I can't start full liquids until 15 days out.

    Louisiana Sleevers?

I'm new here, hey y'all! In the research phase and praying my insurance will pay. Everywhere I'm reading says BCBS LA doesn't cover the surgery, but my mom was sleeved almost 4 years ago by Dr. Kleinpeter at OLOL and I know for a fact she didn't pay full cost out of pocket so I'm confused. But honestly, I need this so desperately I'd pay full price for it. I'm from Baton Rouge and would go there for the surgery and recovery, but I go to school in New Orleans so I'm hoping I can do my pre-surgery appointments here. Hoping for some answers soon!
