I am also 1 year and have switched to family doctor for follow up. Surgeon was happy for me to do this -
October 2015 Peeps......where U be ? What it is ?
meatpie replied to Dub's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey October buddies! I'm 1.2kg off "healthy bmi" and around 7 kg off goal weight.. Feeling good, working out hard, but I have definitely had my moments of weakness. Thank goodness the restriction has minimized the damage in those moments and I have been able to reflect and take responsibility for the 'madness'... I do feel like I'm in control now, for the first time ever, it's an empowering feeling and I'm going to hold on Dub- you are so focused, very inspiring.. I have no doubt you will succeed -
Pregnant at 5 weeks post op!
meatpie replied to momwifestudent's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh yeah, it was a BIG surprise for her and it was a real worry that she had had a general anesthesia and such a major op so early in the pregnancy. She did do a preg test and it was negative pre op.... But luckily it turned out ok. -
Lots of head massage to stimulate your follicles to grow more hair- won't stop it falling out but will help it grow back quicker!

No pre-op diet required. How should I prepare?
meatpie replied to LA_lady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't have to do pre op diet... Nothing can really prepare you for the first few weeks post sleeve. Enjoy yourself I say, but just remember you have to loose anything you gain.. And when you are close to goal (if your like me) you have to fight for every gram gone. Goodluck, this is an amazing thing you are doing for yourself! -
Pregnant at 5 weeks post op!
meatpie replied to momwifestudent's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, congrats! A friend of mine was sleeved at the same time as me... She found out 2 weeks post op that she was 10 wks pregnant!!! Woah, yep. So the big difference was that she had to really push the Protein & get energy intake up quick (lots of shakes) She had happy and healthy little girl 2 weeks ago and she lost 40kg during pregnancy -
I lived on purée beef bolignaise with cheese melted on top. Poached salmon & cottage cheese purée.

Experienced Sleevers - Tolerances/Intolerances
meatpie replied to brookebonic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lactose.. I had a mild intolerance pre op.. Now 7months post op it's lactose, artificial sweeteners and red wine.. ( I think the problem with red wine is the preservatives in it). -
Hang in there.. When I had balloon I could eat anything and drink quick too.. (Different with the sleeve). You will loose weight if u eat small healthy meals & you will feel full much quicker. I was hungry ++ in the first 2 weeks.. Think it was mostly my head getting around the smaller portions.

6 Months Post Op. Can Eat Whole Sandwich?
meatpie replied to Billysbelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stomach does not "grow back" but it can "stretch".. Two very different situations. -
Oh yes, something for your bowels.. Big problem for me in the first few weeks!

I do intensive workouts and was feeling very weak until I started this strategy around my workouts.. Pre workout- coffee made with soy milk or lactose free milk During- complete bcaa powder in water After- protein shake. This was a game changer for me, have seen great muscle growth and energy increase.

The Great Arse Face Experiment (Or - Does Haemorrhoid Cream really help with your turkey neck?)
meatpie replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So.... Just to add some not great news to this thread- (and I thank you for your amazing pioneering work in this area) I spoke at length with a pharmacist about this and apparently in Australia the ingredient that was responsible for the tightening under eyes was taken out of all the products 2 years ago. ???? And the current products are not safe to be used under the eyes (I know the experiment is on neck area.... But I'd planned on bathing in the stuff if it was true)... So for u guys in the USA and elsewhere- just check with a chemist about the ingredients. thanks for a great post! -
My arms are a bit batwing-ish; my stomach is starting to get quite loose skin. I feel like I will need arm surgery and a tummy tuck- but for cosmetic reasons rather than medical. I still have 5-10kg to go, so not sure what changes the last few kg will bring. My hair started to fall out quickly at 4 months and is slowing now at 6 months.. I take a good Amount of protien, water and vitamins daily. I had very minimal pain, didn't take any pain relief after day 3. Best decision I have ever made, it has been slow but I feel I have control of my weight/hunger ect for the first time in my life.

Mmy posted the other day talking about getting a 50% sleeve.. First I'd heard of it too.
-
Glad to hear that you are getting the full sleeve.. My bmi was 32.5 to start.. It's now 26.1 - pretty much exactly 6months since surgery. (I've lost 20kg). I don't feel like I will loose too much as the weight loss has been very slow and steady and continues to slow.. I am active -doing xfit 3-4 times a week and building some good muscle. My goal originally was to loose 11 more kgs to be a bmi of 22 but I think I'll be happy to loose about 5 more kgs.. Just see when I get there.. The weight just had not magically dropped off me so I don't feel loosing too much is a genuine possibility at this point.
-
My bmi was less than yours pre op... I've had the "normal" sleeve and at 6months I am still 5kg off a normal bmi.. It's hard work loosing even with, full sleeve. I wonder if u get this half sleeve and it's not enough if it will cost you again to have full sleeve... Probably better off doing it right the first time. I would definitely get another opinion. I have not heard of the modified sleeve.

Is returning to work after 5 days reasonable?
meatpie replied to ld33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had no complications or pain and there is no way I could have gone back within a week-but here in Australia it's common to be in hospital for 2-3 nights post op- as standard post op. -
Oh me too! My hair started coming out around 4 months- I'm 6 months now and it's just starting to slow down... I have very fine hair so it's been quite traumatic for me. I took all my vitamins and get my protein religiously. I hope that it's not too bad for you! I wouldn't change my sleeve surgery for the world however.

You are probably cold because you are not moving around as much as what you normally would be. You also are not warming yourself up with food, or the secondary thermogenic warmth your body creates to digest and process food..
-
And it looks like we both had a similar outcome.. I agree- waste of $$$ but I won't die wondering
-
Hi, I am also a balloon to sleeve.. I have found the sleeve much more liveable and a much easier recovery in the first few weeks. I lost 10kg with balloon - put half back on in 3months then have lost 19kg since sleeve in October last year. Goodluck- I'm sure u will not regret this!
-
It will definitely help with appetite whilst it is in. The problem for me was when it came out.. Just have a really good strategy in place, I thought I did, but obviously not
-
I hope this reply is not too late for you to see.. I had the orbera dec 14-june15.. It was great and I lost 10kg (22pd) in the first two months.. But the weightloss then stopped for the last 4 months. You can only eat small amounts. But I was happy to have lost something at least.. However, when that balloon came out I was hungry with a vengeance it was uncontrollable and I gained weight back quickly.. I had sleeve in October and my weight loss has been very slow but this is a forever journey.. Please, please be aware that I found the orbera just another expensive fad.. I hope it works for you.

Hi, my bmi was 33 when I was sleeved. Very similar story to you.. I worked really hard to still be fat.. Lol.. I was very fit, doing crossfit prior to surgery but couldn't keep my weight off with all the effort! I got a back injury and gained 5kg in 2months.. Easy! So I had the sleeve, my weight loss is very slow but steady. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone of a low bmi who is genuinely working hard but getting nowhere..
