Anxiety post surgery anyone?
wincha replied to aries477's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind the posts you are going to read are either from person who wants to be helpful and share info or those who have had bad experiences. I'm a RN so i may see the sickest folks of a certian condition but that is not the majority others can be living workout issues from their conditions. So those posting their bad stories are not the norm. Sorry my phone lines to type ate instead of are. -
Anxiety post surgery anyone?
wincha replied to aries477's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you ate having these symptoms do get an evaluation from a psychiatrist and find a good counselor. That's a good start. Also if there is group counseling after you Hebe been in counseling for awhile that can be very helpful too. Don't forget to get involved in supirt group for weight losses surgery. Good luck you can feel better! -
Im having my lap band tomorrow and will be a 23 hour admit to spend the night. I had a long talk with a friend who had her band 4 years ago. I understand that you will see more people post negative things over positive. Like when i worked in the hospital we saw the sickest kids but that doesnt mean its the norm. Plus othet things are implanted and last a lifetime. Ive got my soup frozen in ice cubes. My house was cleaned today. My in town college daughter will help me wheb my husband is working but he works at home anyway. I used to have an iPhone i have brought into the recovery room to listen to music buy dont know so will try to get then to let me have my ipad. Wish me luck

My surgery is in Tuesday. There are quite a few women who have been very successful at my old job (on COBRA) so I'm still covered. My sister had the sleeve not too long ago and from what my mom says she doesn't sound like she has lost weight and may need surgery for scarring. She's been having issues with it. She lives in the Middle East. My doctor does less lap band now than the other procedures but is well known for all of these surgeries, so I'm not worried about that. He still is going to do the lap band for me, he says less are asking for the lap band. Just getting nervous about the negative things I see out there about complications. Oh and my mom had a gastric bypass years ago and now has osteoporosis since she doesn't absorb Calcium. I've got a small area of osteopenia of my lower spine which I'm taking calcium supplements and picked up upper body weights. I broke my knee 3 years ago and had to stop Impact exercise which stimulates bone growth. I swim, ride my bike a few miles and go to the gym. I just need not to be hungry. I've been eating less theses past few months also. Anyway. Just nervous. I'll do anything not to throw up that's the worst thing in the world for me. I know I can follow the instructions on how to eat what to eat and exercise. I'm a RN also.

Thanks for the info. 2 years post op is included. I'm spending the night which is a good thing to have a break from my family. My 19 year old daughter will be helping me when my husband is working.

Getting nervous. Surgery for lap band Dec 1. I know women from work who have been very successful with the band. My sister lives overseas and had the sleeve this last year, having issues. Sounds like she has to have surgery for scarring. All the literature is saying to get a sleeve instead of the band. I know that there are less absorption issues with the band. My mom had a gastric bypass a very long time ago and can't absorb Calcium and has osteoporosis. I've got osteopenia of a small section if my lower spine so doing everything to work in bone growth. I'm also a RN. I exercise but broke my knee and arm 3 years ago so impact exercise is out. I swim, bike, do the row machine and have added upper body weights recently. The last 2 items stimulate bone growth. My surgeon is excellent. I can't stand to throw up so I'll be very careful. . Can I really never eat shrimp again, even if cut into teeny pieces? I've bought my food for the next few weeks. Tomorrow I'm gonna cook the creve Soups I was told I could have and freeze in ice cube trays. Any pre advice is appreciated.

I'm getting the band in Tuesday but I'm ready so many people are getting switched over to the sleeve. My doctor does less bands and more sleeves now. I'm concerned about not absorbing Calcium as I have some osteopenia. My mom had gastric bypass years ago and can't absorb calcium and has osteoporosis. My sister recently has had issues with her sleeve she needs surgery for scar tissue. Too much info out there. Me being a R N doesn't help. Are people happy with their bands? Why did you choose the band? Anyone recently get banded and why that choice?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I've done my research. I don't want my stomach taken out and I would never have my intestines rerouted. I exercise and enjoy it I look forward to doing yoga where my stomach doesn't get in the way of floor exercises. I've been working on eating smaller portions and see how my family contributes to eating also. I'm changing what food we have in my house. 3 years ago I had to have a hysterectomy and a lot of stress at work and my BP sky rocketed so now I'm on BP meds. I have sleep apnea but really think I've had this since before college when I was thin. My entire family has sleeping disorders. A couple of years ago I realized I sleep eat on ambien, scary. I know I shouldn't read too much. I've found a lot of good info to prepare for post op. Today I'm cooking soups and freezing in ice cube trays. My liquid and full liquid diet is ready to go.

Dr. In My Area No Longer Does Lapband. Ugh!
wincha replied to Essence33's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have a good lap band surgeon with good follow up. The first 2 years are included with the surgery he says that he does less lap bands now. I've been ready about the complications. But I'm also concerned about absorbing calcium. My mom had a gastric bypass many years ago and can't absorb calcium and has osteoporosis. Have a small area of my spine with osteopenia. My sister had the sleeve this year and now needs surgery for scar tissue. I was all for the band but these stories are scaring me. -
I lose weight quick by only eating steak and tomatoes. I drink a glass of milk too. 2-3 days of that slides any extra weight I've put on. I drink lots of water. For me that diet is like a diuretic

Any December Sleever's?
wincha replied to wif3ysince08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
December 1. Just need to be on a 1400 cal diet. Lost 14 pounds in 6 months put a couple back on. Asked about a liquid diet said it wasn't necessary. Eating more protein these last few days, less carbs. That's the only way I don't gain. Was told I could eat Thanksgiving dinner and I gained but it's coming off I ate less than everyone else and cleared my plate as soon as I was finished eating. I guess I'll be eating puréed food on Christmas. We eat leg of lamb anyway so I couldn't eat it anyway. Getting nervous about the lap band so much negative stuff out there saying to get the other surgeries instead. I left my job last year but kept my COBRA since this is the first insurance that covers this surgery. My surgery includes 2 years of aftercare. Been doing some temp work, will look for a new job in Jan to cover our health insurance our COBRA is expensive and gong up more next year. Oops meant to post in the lap band section -
I'm getting my lap band on Tuesday. I was wondering. I'm able to make very moist chicken by poaching it. I wonder if that would help.
