Sudden stop in weight loss
Dark-Horse replied to Audra Pina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 7 weeks post RNY and I am stalled, even gained 1.5 lbs. I am following my NUT directions with little variation. Dr and NUT aren't much help. I searched to see what I could find. I came across a post on this site regarding stalls. This website provided the best insite to what was happening. I hope it helps others as well. Stay the course! We will get there. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php#.U67PZ0CcSpo -

Loosing a lot of my hair

I had RNY- just had 7-week post-op and they mentioned nothing about additional iron. Are you taking any supplements, Protein, etc? Iron absorption in a normal GI tract is only 5-15%. Post RNY your risk of malabsorption is greatly increased and could lead to many adverse health effects. Personally, I'd follow up with my nutritionist (at the least) and confirm they don't want you to take any iron supplements. I am taking a multi Vitamin twice a day, Calcium, B-12, and Biotin. I guess whenever the doc requires blood work, we will find out if I need iron. I do need to contact my Nutritionist, so I will ask her about additional iron just to ward off any potential issues. Thanks. -
Apprehensive feeling when asked "how much have you lost?"
Dark-Horse replied to goblue9280's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Someone today asked if I had lost weight (I'm a newbie, so only 25 so far). I told him not really, just a different hair cut and color. He is now going to wonder if it was his imagination. But then there are others who ask, but with a cynical edge. Almost like they want you to fail? Misery loves company. Or maybe jealousy that I have chosen to do something to get healthier? Either way, i go with as vague an answer as I can. Or to borrow a bit from Shrek, "better off then on" -

Congrats on your decision and good luck on your journey. I understand the friends/family who are unwilling to talk. Some may not be educated on WLS, and have a mindset against it. The stigma of surgery- you know the ole' cop out. At least that is what my sister in law calls it. It happened to be a passing conversation in a general context, so she has no clue I had it done. Needless to say, I won't be telling her! And the three friends who do know, mention nothing. Even my sister has never asked if commented on it. Her only comment was "I hope it does what you want it to" in a snide tone. Yup. Conversation ended. At least my husband is supportive and understanding. At least with this forum, we are all losers! (Weight, that is!) ????

MzB- your hair looks great! I am a hair dresser, and if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't know. -

Loosing a lot of my hair
Dark-Horse replied to katdelgado's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Interesting. I figured the hair loss was from the trauma of surgery, but never heard the iron deficiency part. My Dr has never mentioned anything regarding iron supplements. Only multi-vitamins and B-12. I am also taking biotin to help stem some hair loss, but who knows how effective it really is. I'm only 7 weeks post-op, so I have a bit to find out how bad the loss will be. -

I haven't lost my hair yet, but when and if I do, will it come back or is the loss permanent? -

Hello Newbie here..
Dark-Horse replied to girantsgirl53's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I recently had RNY. For the plan my Nut put me on post-op, they recommend the amount of liquid and Protein, but in the very beginning, you do what you can. You will gradually increase your amounts as well as add in different textures every few weeks. I have not had any problem getting my liquids in, including protein shakes. My friends who had the sleeve have had issues consuming the liquid required. As for the protein shakes, I find them very convenient when you are out and about. My daughter, who's in college has started using them when she has no time to stop and get a meal. Not sure why you can only use them 2-weeks. Also, when incorporating new foods, it is amazing what your body will accept and reject. At least if you have shakes, you are guaranteed to get 20-30g of protein. Good luck! -
CHMD- congrats on your decision! It is exciting and scary. The more you know, the better prepared you will be. Please keep us posted on your journey. Good luck!

I took two weeks as well. I was tired when I got home. When I returned, no one even questioned why I was out. They all thought I was on vacation. I had no pain and felt great. And feeling better every day. Good luck!

I feel your pain. I am 5 weeks out and will be adding other foods next week. I'm afraid I'll fall into the same ol' rut and not eat anything new for fear of gaining it all back. Old habits die hard! Also how do I know I am keeping to the 800 calories? I have never been good at journaling my food.
