Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
swinglifeaway replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so strange to think that when I first posted on this thread, I was just getting started with the process, and now I'm at the end. Surgery is next month! -
My surgeon requires a 2 week pre-op diet with 3-4 Premier Protein shakes a day and 1 cup of skim milk. Check with your surgeon or your nutritionist. [emoji3]

Pregnancy After RNY
swinglifeaway replied to swinglifeaway's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Well, I met with my surgeon and he highly recommended RNY. I also met with my OBGYN and she feels with supplements, nutrition modification, and being closely monitored, I can have successful pregnancies after bypass. I should have surgery next month. Thanks so so much for everyone's input. -
I am doing some research prior to WLS. I went into my consultation thinking that RNY was the best surgery for me. My doctor did not have anything positive to say about it for someone my age and eagerness to have a family. I will be 29 next month and have no children. She stated that with the RYN, it would be very difficult to provide enough nutrients to have viable pregnancies. She also mentioned lifelong nutrient deficiencies. Has anyone had a doctor okay RNY at a young age and do you regret the more extreme surgery? Thanks in advance!

I was able to get a prescription for vitamins that are mailed each month and a prescription for the scar cream and protein shakes that are mailed each month. My Dr. helped me with the vitamins and I applied online for the scar cream and protein shakes with Insure Nutrition. After I applied, they called to see what I was interested in, they verified what insurance would cover, and faxed the prescription to my Dr.

I found out that it will be billed to me and then I'll make an arrangement with the hospital. Thank goodness!

Good luck!!!! You're going to do great! -
That's great! My husband had pizza. I had a shake as well.

My spouse says he supports me, but continues to make unhealthy choices around me and even tries to tempt me into eating those things with him. Most of my coworkers are really supportive.

I'll be at the same seminar! Maybe we will see each other. I agree with you about the sleeve. I have done hours of research, and I feel like bypass is best for me. I see her on the 27th. Let's keep in touch!
-
In my appointments with her, she has said that she recommends sleeve over bypass. I mentioned that I was considering bypass over sleeve, and she told me that I wouldn't want to have the bypass due to nutritional deficiencies. In my next appointment, I'm going to tell her that I've decided that the bypass is the route I want to take. Edited to say that she said someone as young as I am, late 20s can have those nutritional deficiencies, especially with wanting to have children in the future.

I'm pre-op, and still wrapping my head around the things I should eat and shouldn't. I haven't really found too many things I'm going to miss too much, except smoothies. Are they frowned upon? Can anyone personally tolerate them? I always make green smoothies with berries and/or pineapple, etc. I never add sugar, so I'm hoping it wouldn't cause dumping.

My favorite fast food is a stir fry place called One Fresh. They give you so much food that a bowl will easily last me 3 meals now if I have a normal person portion. It would last me all week once I'm post-op. I normally get quinoa now, but I would likely spend a little more and get it without a starch (veggies and protein only).
