Great job Ceradad...hopefully you can help to change the perceptions out there one at a time. People just don't know and make assumptions about surgery being the easy way out when we all know better. Once they know better I'm sure their perceptions will change too.

...and what a wonder it will be! I still have a ways to go, but I'm dropping weight fairly quickly right now and am really looking forward to that milestone! Congrats to all of you who have already made it! 220.4

I had my 2nd fill about 2.5 weeks ago bringing me to 6 cc in a 10 cc band. I do feel more restriction and less hunger. I've since had my first episodes of something getting stuck and PBing and frothing (joy). I had 2 episodes in the week after and could relate them to eating too quickly, too big of a bite, or not chewing enough. So I started being much more careful since that was no fun at all! Now I've had 2 more episodes one last night and one right now and I was pretty careful (especially today) to take small bites and chew thoroughly. I don't think I'm overfilled because I wouldn't have gone for the last week and a half without any trouble, but it does seem odd that twice in a row now I've had this problem. I will say that after my 2nd fill I've had less hunger (I had been VERY HUNGRY prior to the 2nd fill). I have not faltered from the diet the Dr. office has me on though, and my weight is dropping like a stone right now:thumbup:. It'll drop even further if I can't seem to get anything down without it getting stuck! I think I may have to try liquids for a day or so.

Itchy scratchy incisions?
Linda Lu replied to Mom2_4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it is most likely healing (if it were the adhesive you might see redness, swelling, rashes etc.). I too had some bad episodes of itching...I admit to scratching in the area around the incisions when I really couldn't take it, but what I found most helpful was the Eucerin calming lotion and also Sarna sensitive helped too. Then distract yourself! -
Amen! Do we tell diabetics they should go natural rather than taking insulin injections? No siree! That's why I too haven't told anyone (aside from hubby and Mom...and she need to be educated too). People see me dieting and I tell them that I'm also exercising when they comment on my weight loss so far...and it's not a lie, but all they need to know!

Girls- Any tips on bras? Mine rub on one of my sites....
Linda Lu replied to ChampGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that going down a cup size and taking my bra off the minute I got home at the end of the day helped. -
Use caution with carbonated soft drinks as they can bloat and stretch your stomach and make you feel more hungry (before surgery) and stretch out your pouch and fill you prematurely (after surgery). You're probably better off sticking to flavorings.

I was able to get down a little bit of chicken, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and 10 corn chips (not in one sitting) so I thought I was doing OK. Then I PBed and threw up on chicken. Later that same day I PBed on 2 chips. The next day I PBed on pureed chili. Today the most I got down was mashed potatoes. You definitely should go to the doc sooner than later. I would avoid wasting calories and "space" on coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and corn chips and strive to get Protein in even if it's a shake as well.

1/2 a cup? I don't think so...

What is your Fill Level in a 10 cc AP Band?
Linda Lu replied to Motocrossgirly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
2cc from surgery 3 cc added with 1st fill 1 cc added 2nd fill (2 wks ago) Feeling some restriction (finally) and less hunger (FINALLY!). I think I'll be ok here for awhile...some difficulty getting things down...have to eat slow and chew really well. -
So sorry to hear you have to have surgery again. Thank you for sharing your advice with the rest of us. Do you anticipate any trouble with getting the insurance to approve replacement (is your BMI below 40 now?)...not sure how that works when it's a replacement.

I'm officially in bandster hell. Help!
Linda Lu replied to SuzanneG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my 2nd fill Friday and have 6cc in my 10cc band and I did eat a little too fast last night and had a really hard time (for the first time). I did end up PB'ing and was very uncomfortable for close to a half hour before it resolved. NOT FUN...I definitely will be more careful going forward. -
wat will i tell ppl when im not eating easter bunnes on easter day... im normally into them the second i wake up? I do tell people I'm dieting (and I am!) even though I don't tell people that I've gotten the band. That way they understand and don't keep pressuring me to have something to eat. I stick like glue to my diet and don't have even a taste of something like chockolate, bread, potato etc.. Over TG & xmas (pre-band) I made sure that there was Protein for me to eat if it got to be lunch time and everyone else was having the "snack round"...I made teriyake chicken on a skewer and sprinkled with sesame seeds...no one even noticed that I didn't have all the junk that they ate! At dinner time it was much easier to just choose the protein and veggie. It was empowering at the end of the day to know I stuck to the right foods, and to think of all the terrible calorie counts that everyone else ate!

I had my first fill in my 10cc band on 2/1 of 3 ccs and I didn't feel any restriction either. I've now had my 2nd fill on 2/15 of 1cc and I am feeling some restriction. Just had my first solid food tonight (chicken) and it went down ok, but I had to eat quite slowly and chew quite thoroughly. I've also not been terribly hungry between meals (thank goodness...a first!).

Hey another Newbie from Massachusetts
Linda Lu replied to Shamrockgirl60's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Shamrockgirl! I had my surgery done at Emerson in Concord. Good program there, I've been very pleased. Best of luck to you! -
4 weeks out - what are you eating?
Linda Lu replied to abutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ha Ha...no pizza in a cup I'm afraid!! My surgeon's office has me do 4 oz protein, and up to a cup of vegetable for each meal (up to a 1/2 cup of fruit after that if you're able). I was able to eat that until my 2nd fill on Friday, now I'm just progressing back to ground foods and seem to feel more restricted. -
I just noticed I'm making the best complaint ever!
Linda Lu replied to Anyalee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great job Anyalee...it's hard to be patient, you're right...but as long as the scale is going in the right direction, you're doing great! -
My surgeon's office has me on a very specific diet both pre and post op. So what I eat never changes...just whether I'm hungry or not!! I just had my 2nd fill Friday and for the first time in ages I'm not feeling hungry between meals! The diet is simple (sticking to it is more of a challenge, but i'm doing it no matter what and I'm consistently losing weight). Lean Protein: up to 4 oz ( I have a scale and I measure exactly...I've even measured deli meat on the postage meter at work to be sure!) Low starch vegetable: 1/2 -1 cup after your Protein...if you can't finish your protein you don't start on the veggie Fruit: 1/4-1/2 cup if you've gotten in all of your protein and veggie (yeah right!)...but preop and until this last fill I've been able to get fruit in (if I bothered to). Nothing between meals, no starches, or starchy veggies (like potato, corn, sweet potato) It's working like a charm, I do have to say that!

Were you required to lose weight before surgery? How much?
Linda Lu replied to Sue40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Emerson Hospital in Concord and they required a 5% loss of weight but they are strict with it and won't schedule you until you've acheived 5% loss. Fortunately I was able to stick to the diet well and lost my 5% in a month. -
