Glad you made it back down to 199 Renewed! How about a victory "lap" (exercise) instead of food this time!

Yikes, in July changing insurance companies!
Linda Lu replied to BabyNicole's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had the same dilemma haing been approved by Harvard Pilgrim in November 07 and finding out my company was switching to BCBS Jan 1, 08. I lost the required amount of weight preop and was able to be scheduled for surgery the day after Christmas with the insurance company that had approved me. There has been no problem with BCBS picking up the cost of the fills; I jus get billed a co-pay like any other office visit. And...I love my band!! I've lost 73 lbs since starting the preop diet! Best of luck to you! -
Congrats Renewed & Lillyanne! I'm almost there myself I'm 204.5 and heading toward the bridge to Onderland!! i can't wait...such a mental milestone (and a great achievement)!

My surgeon's office put me on a low carb diet preop (I started 10/24/07) and have continued to date...I have been very disciplined and have not wavered even slightly through Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Superbowl (practically a holiday here in MA!), Valentines day, and Easter! Mine is a low fat version of low carb that is also portion controlled (4 oz Protein per meal). So far so good with weight loss which has kept me from cheating. Today's menu: B- Protein shake made with 8 oz skim milk and GNC whey protein power L- 3.5 oz sliced deli turkey on a bed of shredded lettuce with 2Tbsp light ranch dsg and 1Tbsp bacon bits S- 4 0z grilled chicken breast 2 Tbsp light ranch dressing My weakness...not drinking enough! But I'm trying...about 40 0z so far today.

Good luck to both of you! It'll be over before you know it and your journeys will be underway! -
Can you name 1, or 2 things you would love to do once you reach your goal?
Linda Lu replied to mstrina27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great thread! I'd like to do so many of the things listed here...go on amusement rides, feel comfortable in intimate moments with my DH, shop for normal clothes in a normal store. Yet, lets not forget that the journey is as important as the destination. We learn valuable lessons along the way about ourselves (including our eating habits and motivations...or demons) and...so while it's nice to think about what we'd like to do "when"... I encourage everyone to appreciate the successes so far and what you've learned about yourself along the way too. -
What would you like someone who has been stuck 100 times or who is throwing up all the time to "do" about the problem? This is a discussion forum for all types of topics and includes both positive and negative posts. Fortunately it's optional for you to come here and read them so if you don't care for the negative experiences, you don't have to come and read them. The reality of peoples' experiences are helpful to many of us.

The strength you have within is the most reliable support you will be able to count on. Hopefully your family will get on board once they see your successes.

protein drinks 6mnths down the line
Linda Lu replied to slimmy120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My clinic also recommends replacing one meal a day with a protein shake and also gives a daily minimum protein range. Although the shake does not fill the pouch like a solid meal would, I find that the protein and volume of liquid (milk) make me quite full. I have my shake for breakfast each day (convenience) and it keeps me satisfied until close to lunch. Sometimes I get hungry by 11:00 but can tough it out until noon. -
EXCITING!! I can't wait until I get there (about 14 lbs to go!). Congratulations to you!

Pre-Op Diet w/Carbs...
Linda Lu replied to AspiringPhD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office and nutritionist has me on a very low (almost no) carb diet. The only carbs come from 1/2-1 cup veggies; rare fruit (if you can fit it in). I will say that this diet prepared me well before surgery and has caused me to drop weight quite quickly (and I've stuck to the diet religiously). -
