    Today's Goal

@@jane13 is right! Focus on your preop diet. If you follow it you'll start seeing results BEFORE surgery! I was happily apprised to lose 18 pounds (I was 352#) dyeing my preop diet! Surgery went smoothly and my doctor said I'll see great results longterm after surgery based on how well my liver had shrunk from sticking to my preop diet. It's crazy hard, emotional and frustrating but possible! It forced me to try to make even healthier meals for my niece and nephew the days I watched them so I could practice for myself after surgery. One of my favorite healthy meals is lean meat taco salad with salsa for the dressing or simple grilled chicken or salmon with grilled garlic asparagus. Google vsg diet and you'll find a multitude of sites with yummy high Protein recipes to try. My favorites are froedert.com and bariatriceating.com You've got this @@jembell01

    Scale Obsession

I'm just one week post op. I've weighed myself 3 times since surgery but plan to only do weekly going forward. I know someone who had RNY and weighed herself daily! For me it's not all about the number. Is about the way I feel and the way I perceive myself. I have chronic back and leg problems so getting the weight off will hopefully save me from having to have multiple epidural steroid injections each year.

    Nov 30 15 VSG Surgery

Just tried drinking milk for the first time since surgery and about half way through became nauseous and now have the hiccups. It was Fairlife fat free milk. That stuff is expensive and I don't want it to go to waste!

    Nov 30 15 VSG Surgery

@@Carolina419 we are only 1 week post op. I'm struggling too and was told to just keep sipping every waking moment except around meals. I also had to pick up stool softeners and Miralax and once I went it was easier to drink.

To Tell or Not to Tell?!?

I've been very open with people in my life regarding my surgery. Family, friends, coworkers and acquaintances. I'm not ashamed. I did my research, I have solid reasoning as to why I've chosen to have this surgery and honestly almost everyone had been insanely supportive. Those super close to me such as parents and grandparents are cautious at first but still very supportive. The only person who had said anything negative to me about it was (by their admission) angry about something else and attacking everything they could think of. (That person is no longer as active in my life.) I truly feel having surgery is nothing to be ashamed of but can understand that others are more private than I am. A coworker hasn't told many people and doesn't want to. I'm not sure what she tells people but either way, do what you are most comfortable with. The people in your life may be more open and supportive of it than you think.

Pre-Op UGI shows moderate to severe reflux

Ask if he would consider doing a Linx at the same time. It's a band they can put just above the stomach to allow food and drink to pass through but deter reflux.

Any one around 26 years old? ?

I'm 26 and had my VSG Nov 30 th. Before my preop diet I was 352.2, day of surgery 334, today 327.8! I am 6'2". I have given up alcohol at this point. For me it's not worth the calories and sugar but know others post-sleeve or post-bypass who do drink. You'll have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself and decide.
  12. Hey all. I was sleeved on Monday Nov 30 and find my pain is quite increased after I sit for any amount of time and try to stand up and walk. My pain is minimal or nonexistent when laying and only increases slightly when I get up and start walking. We went to a movie at the theater this afternoon and when we got up to leave I was in a ton of pain to the point of becoming nauseous. I came home took a Zofran and laid down with an ice pack over the most painful part of my abdomen and took some Tylenol. Does anyone else find this to be an issue for them?

    Increased pain with sitting

I'll see him the 15th. I'm not overly worried. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.
  14. Had anyone else experienced strange overwhelming emotions following their surgery? I had surgery Monday Nov 30. Tonight I was trying to eat dinner and suddenly started crying. I am not taking anything for pain aside from the occasional Tylenol. I couldn't tolerate the ultra-concentrated oxycodone. The only time I have pain is when I cough or move. My family is insanely supportive but I'm not sure they would understand this random emotion. TIA

    Increased pain with sitting

It's the incision on the right just above where my abdomen folds in line with the belly button (biggest incision i have and the one he removed the section of stomach through) up to the incision on the far right just below the liver. The same area that has been sore anytime I've moved since surgery. I really don't feel much pain by the other 4 incisions. There aren't any signs of infection. My clothes don't push on it funny and with my bra on my chest doesn't put much weight on it. My Dr, NP and RN preemptively "yelled" at me to not martyr myself (I've worked with my Dr and NP for a few years professionally and the RN knows my whole family- all of which is comforting for me) but honestly I feel like I'm just being a wimp since I don't have any pain while I'm laying down and very little getting up from laying and while sitting. It's by far the worst while getting up from sitting and walking after sitting. @@JourneyInside I definitely have side rolls lol can't wait for them to shrink enough to no longer look like a rear facing chest!
  16. I'm a 26 year old nurse and take care of my 3.5 y/o niece and 2 y/o nephew 2 days a week. To top it off I've had chronic back problems since I was 11. If I didn't do something successful and semipermanent to lose weight I was heading toward several back surgeries and not being able to take care of the kids or do my job. It was time to break the cycle of bring heavy causing back/leg symptoms causing restrictions to exercise causing me to eat my feelings causing me to gain weight etc.
  17. I can't wait to have less frequent back and leg pain. Wear a sweater dress and leggings. Shop for clothes in the main sections of Maurices and Old Navy!

    11/30 Sleevers?

Anyone else have intense pain after sitting for any length of time? I went with my family to a movie tonight and walking out my pain was crazy intense and I got nauseous. Just took a Zofran and am laying down with an ice pack. TIA

    Emotions after VSG

Oh thank goodness! I'm so tearful tonight! Dinnertime was just the beginning. Then my niece and nephew got home and immediately wanted to come down to my room to see me and I started crying and now that I showered and am snuggling my niece watching Home I became tearful again.

    11/30 Sleevers?

Most of my pain is incidental, meaning when I move or cough. I'm not getting much for gas pain but have been walking like crazy. I'm not taking any narcotics anymore though I probably could use some. I've learned to take the smallest of small sips every minute or two and that seems to help too.

I'm POD2 came home thus afternoon. The NP and Surgeon both told me not to be a nurse and to call with questions or concerns lol. Benefit of having providers who I've been working with for well over a year.
