Any husband and wife sleeve teams out there? Topic: Time between surgeries. Discuss! :)
BullyMomma replied to SusanB55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was it the shoulder pain from the gas that kept you on the recliner? Thank you for your reply☺. I still don't have an answer from bcbs for my surgery and its making me crazy, lol.I actually didn't have any shoulder pain from the gas. It seemed to all stay in my abdomen and made it hard to get deep breaths. It was easier to breath and move in the seated position. Also, the little guy in my avatar is a cuddler and sleeps in our bed, so he won that battle. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
Leading up to my death?
BullyMomma replied to 1cutiejulie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was totally fine for mine, but my husband was sleeved a week later, and I was a mess. I didn't even sleep the night before his surgery. -

We were also sleeved exactly one week apart. I was 4/4 and he was 4/11. It worked out perfectly! I was less mobile than he was in the first days, but I bounced back to myself a lot faster than he did. He was up and walking around sooner than me. He was even able to sleep in bed and get out of bed himself as soon as he came home. I was on the recliner for about 3 nights. -
What is your favorite pureed food?
BullyMomma replied to IveGotThePower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been using seasoned chicken or starkist tuna creations and pureeing them with a little bit of light mayo. I've also been having a wedge of laughing cow cheese with it. I'm allowed a soft scrambled egg on purees as well. -
Did everyone have a Pre-op diet?
BullyMomma replied to coleycole127's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When talking with my dietitian, I mentioned the liquid diet because I assumed that's what I would have to do, and she told me it would be a 1000 calorie/day for 2 weeks leading up to the surgery. I have my pre-op and NUT class next week where I will get all the details and hopefully some good tips to stay at the 1k mark because it seems really challenging right now. -
Any April/May 2016 sleevers?
BullyMomma replied to shellba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a few bumps with fluctuating weight, but I was finally able to send everything to insurance and got approved so fast. I just scheduled surgery for April 4th! -
Psychological Evaluation
BullyMomma replied to Mz.W's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was asked about expectations and if I understood the risks of the surgery. We talked a lot about my weight fluctuations and previous weight loss attempts. We also discussed my support system, like who in my life will help me succeed. -
Pregnancy before or after surgery?
BullyMomma replied to malpal8629's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't worry about what other people will think of your pregnancy. They aren't the ones who have to live through it. The only opinions you should concern yourself with are those of your husband and your surgeon and/or OB/GYN. -
Pregnancy before or after surgery?
BullyMomma replied to malpal8629's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh man, I know this struggle. I'm 28 and my husband is almost 32. We are doing the surgery together, but our original plan was to start TTC at this point. My surgeon doesn't want me to get pregnant for at least 2 years after surgery. Ultimately, what was best for us is that we bring a baby into our newer, healthier lifestyle. I'm working with a 54 BMI right now and I can't even imagine the complications that I would have being this big, if I could even get pregnant at all. And sorry this is TMI, but at the weight my husband and I are at, neither of us are really interested in doing what needs to be done to conceive naturally anyway. We do want 2-3 children, so if I put the surgery off, I would probably be looking at at least 3-5 years before I could have it done and the longer I remain obese, the more damage I am doing to my body. The con in waiting is that I am terrified that pregnancy and post-partum life will be a gateway into gaining the weight back. Have you talked to your partner about it at all? -
Psych eval tomorrow!
BullyMomma replied to betterme38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Your evals were quick! Mine was at least an hour. I gave a lot of info about weight history which has been pretty up and down over the years so maybe that's why. -
@@NYGirlxo Wow we have so much in common! And it looks like we're on the same schedule for the surgery. Can't wait to see your results! We did go to one support group that had a patient panel and it was great. These people were talking about how they just aren't hungry and don't crave junk food even when it's around them. It doesn't seem real lol but I hope I can be in the same position in a few months.

Hi all! I've been hanging around here a bit and getting great advice so I figured I'd jump in with a little about me. I'm almost done with all of my pre-reqs for surgery and hoping for an early February sleeve date. I've already seen a few others on here in the Philly area using Penn. So far, I'm really happy with them, but all of the appointments are a little overwhelming. One of the things that's a little different about my process is that my husband and I are going through it at the same time. His surgery will probably be around 2 weeks after mine. Has anyone else had surgery with a significant other? I'm also surprised at how negative some people are about the idea of the surgery. I learned my lesson pretty fast to watch who I tell, so I'm glad to have my husband to go through it with, and that I found this forum.

I don't have an official surgery date, but everything so far is good to go for February.

Ha! The plan was to actually have him go first, but my schedule is more flexible so I was able to start the process a little earlier. It's probably better that I got first. I had my upper GI today. He had his a few days and got me a little psyched out but it was nothing! Only one more clearance (pulmonary) to go! Thanks for the well wishes an support!

Where's the pennsylvania peeps? ????
BullyMomma replied to lalajade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm originally from Delaware County, but live in NJ now. I'm doing my surgery at Penn though. I'm originally from Delaware County, but live in NJ now. I'm doing my surgery at Penn though. -
Yes! And when I get out, I will be able to use a regular size towel, instead of an oversized beach towel to dry off. My husband and I are actually going through this process together so our daily conversations include all these things to look forward to.

First appointment the 8th
BullyMomma replied to kaciii's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to an information session first (it was actually hosted by my surgeon) and learned a lot about the surgery, risks, etc. I scheduled my first appointment at the session. My first appointment with the surgeon was to take basic vitals, medical history, and we went over the list of all the things I have to do, and clearances I have to get from other docs to qualify for the surgery. It was really quick since most of my questions were covered in the info session. -
I'm in NJ, but doing everything through the Penn program. My surgeon works out on Penn Hospital rather than HUP so that's the only difference. I went to my first support group last night and everyone raved about the staff and the program. I hope you can switch because this process is hard enough with a great bariatric team and support system. The last thing you need is staff members making you uncomfortable this early in the process.

Philadelphia - Penn Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery
BullyMomma replied to baileyj908's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through the process with them now. I'm doing my surgery through Pennsylvania Hospital though. I went to my first info session at the end of October and am working through all the tests now. I'm looking at a February surgery date. -
Anyone have an over 50 BMI?
BullyMomma replied to IJustWant2BeALoser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is over 50 as well. I was worried I wouldn't be approved for surgery because I don't have high BP, diabetes, etc. But I was approved based on my BMI alone. Mine is still at least a 3 month process based on my surgeon's requirements. Hoping for an early-mid February surgery date!
