6 months post-op - debating if I should join a gym
LMSWNYC replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cindy - no planet fitness nearby my neighborhood or work. I am looking into ny sports club, 24hr fitness, lucille roberts, and a local gym in my neighborhood. So far lucille roberts seems to be the winner in terms of price and locations. -

6 months post-op - debating if I should join a gym
LMSWNYC replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I requested a couple of guest passes to various gyms in my area. I hope to try them out throughout the week. -
6 months post op and i have my period about every 2 weeks since surgery date. My periods are longer than 7 days, usually 9-15. My gyn and surgeon informed me this was normal post op and should regulate once my weight stabilizes. I plan to lose more weight within the next 6 months therefore I dont see this issues disappearing just yet. I do have pcos and feel like the surgery has improved my symptoms as I was not having a regular period before surgery. It was very sparatic prior to vgs. I am hopeful it will regulate once I lose more weight and am at a maintenance phase. Hope this feedback helps.

Think thin - brownie crunch protein and fiber bars - 150 calories are my favorite.

6 Months post op and Appetite is coming back !
LMSWNYC replied to OzRoo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 6months post op too and noticed the same. My NUT informed me this is normal at this point. She suggested I increase my protein to 80-90 grams instead of 65 per day. So far I notice that when I keep this up my hunger is much less. I am also driking warm tea and went back to drinking chicken broth when I feel my stomach growling but know it is not time to have a meal. Another suggestion is stepping away from the table once you are done with your meal. Snacking on carrots, berries and watermelon has helped me these past few weeks. -

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
LMSWNYC replied to Awjones28's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
At five days post op my aunt told me "oh I already see the skin on your hands starting to sag" wtf ! She even touched my hand and lifted my skin. I was like what are you talking about - I just hAd surgery ! At work my boss told me "if you would have just eaten 4 oz of food at each meal you would not have needed the surgery, right ? " i said its not that simple- perhaps you may want to do some research on bariatric surgery before you make comments like that. She responded - Im sure it is complicated but I figured that is what it seems like you are doing now. I responded by saying again you need to do your research about bariatric surgery to understand how it works - there are endocrine benefits to surgery that go way beyond just eating smaller portions. On another occassion she asked me when i was going to tell my co-workers becAuse they were noticing I am losing weight fast. I responded - how is that any of their business? My personal life decisions are just that - personal. I really dont care what the have to say or are thinking. As my supervisor I would expect you to respect my privacy. She has not commented since - I am 6 months post op now. Down 60 pounds and I do not plan to share this incormation with co-workers. At a family gathering someone asked so how much weight have you lost.., oh well once you get pregnant you will gain all the weight back.. I responded well thanks for the positive spirit -???? But that is not my plan. -
Feb sleevers.... One month updates!
LMSWNYC replied to bigguy928's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so proud of you all! Your progress is amazing. I am going to focus the next few months on working out and making sure i follow my plan to maximize my weight loss. My goal is to get down to a healthy weight as I prepare my body to conceive once I am cleared. Bluesky if you focus on eating Proteins like trurkey, fish and chicken you will notice you will get full much faster and will not be hunger for 2-4 hours. Try this and see how you feel. For sweet toooth try the Jello sugar free pudding Snacks - they are so good! Glad you are working out. I am trying to follow a workout plan as well but i need to be more consistent. -

I am down 55 pound. From a size 22 to a size 16 at this point. It feels amazing to feel in control of my body. I am so thankful for my sleeve. I feel like a better version of myself. -
Thank you guys for helping me keep things in perspective. This has been a challenging journey. I find myself each day learning more about myself and how to better manage my food addiction. I am adjusting to my new sleeved self as I go along. I am grateful for your support. Thank you for your input.

I am a week away from being 6 months post op and I have lost 54 pounds which includes 10 pounds lost a week before my vgs. Starting weight 285, surgery date 275, current weight 231. Is my progress average or not? I am feeling so guilty today because i gave into a guilty pleasure and had icecream. It is over 100 degrees and I just could not resist. Easting it just made me feel like what they hell am I doing ? I should not be eating this .... Before I knew it the ice cream was all gone. How did I go all this time without it and in a split second I just gave in. ???? I have known people to drop 100 pounds at 6 months. Just feel like maybe I am not doing everything I could be doing... At least that is how I feel today.

LMSWNYC replied to Salinagetssleeved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi February sleevers! How is everyone doing? My 6 months post op is coming up 8-17-16.... I cant believe it is almost 6 months already. Feels like yesterday I was going in for surgery. I feel like a better version of myself. Cant wait to see what the next 6 months will be like. -
Hi KristenLe! Thank you for your support. I am tracking my food intake. On most days my food intake is between 1,000 and 1,200 a day. I have not been able to stay under 1,000 since 4 months post op. On an average I am getting 60 to 80 grams of protein. I am pretty good at sticking with my proteins so far. I have a pcos diagnosis which I beleive is contributing to my slow but steady progress. I will get right back on it! ????????????????

LMSWNYC replied to Thomas CPA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
When you can't stop crossing your legs when your sitting. It feels so natural to me now. ☺️ When you are able to wear clothes sitting in your closet for years and now they are fitting big. ???? When your concerned about your wedding band falling off your finger. ???? When you look in the mirror and cant beleive the changes but say damn I am looking good! ???????????????????? -
Kristen thank you- i did not know!!!

Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
LMSWNYC replied to asolanom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If you know you have tried everything you could to lose and have not been successful then I would say move forward with bariactric surgery. First find out with your health plan what is required for approval. Find a experienced bariatric surgeon and read as much as you can about your surgery options. Bariatric surgery will change your life in ways you would not even think of. It has been the best decision I made for my health. I do not regret it and wished I would have done it 10 years ago but my doctors would not recommend. There are many misconceptions of who qualifies for surgery yet this is specific to each individual and what your health plan will cover. Dont get discouraged by negative comments or opinions even if it from a doctor. If you feel this is right for you then go for it. Best of luck... I would recommend reading the book a pound of cure. Great information for pre-op and post-op patients. -

Can I ever have coffee again?
LMSWNYC replied to lakegirlmn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am five momths post op and started drinking coffee 4 weeks ago because I was constipated and needed some relief. Since then I have had it maybe once or twice a week for this reason. I dont crave it like I used to and I notice that when I do have it now I feel very jittery. So I keep it at a minimum. My NUT said i can have it once in a while as long as it is without sugar or diet sugar. I would not recommend the coffee early on as the acid may irritate your new stomach. Wait until you are able to digest a variety of foods. Also a good tip is to try decaf first and no more than 1oz and see how it sits. Thats what my NUT recommended. Hope this helps! -

LMSWNYC replied to Kmartinez15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
http://5daypouchtest.com/index.html This is the link to the pouch test. I am actually on day 2. First two days liquids, third day soft foods, fourth day semi soft, fifth day normal food for a bariatric patient. I am five months post opt and i am at a stall because i have slipped in some unhealthy food choices and want to get myself back on track. I will let you know how it goes. -
Hi guys... I am currently 4 months post-op and on no medications. I have lost a total of 45 pounds. I still cant believe it. I am so thankful for my sleeve. Yet, I have PCOS and have not noticed my period regulating just yet. I was on metformin prior to having surgery but after surgery i was told to stop the medication. My surgeon informed me it is too soon to tell if my period will regulate since i am only 4 months post op. Yet, I was wondering if anyone was in my situation and if you had to start taking metformin again? Also, will this medication hurt my sleeve? I had really aweful side effects from it the first 3 months after taking it. I would appreciate any advice from anyone who experienced this problem. I am currently on day five of my period and it is extremely heavy which worries me because I am anemic due to my heavy periods and feel very weak. I was hoping surgery would correct this problem bit i havent noticed a change in my cycles and this really worries me.
