    Metformin & PCOS

Quickhorse congrats on your new life as a bariatric patient. As long as you make sure you keep up with the protein recommendations as you progress your hair loss should not be severe as a vgs patient. Generally Hair loss is more severe with bypass not the sleeve. I have not lost much hair but I do make sure to eat 65-80 grams of protein a day. When i was sick with a cold and was not having much protein because i had no appetite and was just having soup i noticed my hair was falling off. Three days later i was back on my normal food intake and noticed a difference with my hair loss. Best of luck!

    Metformin & PCOS

Hi Gina! I can only say about my experience because I do not know many other women with my diagnosis. At this point I am 7 months post op and I have lost 60 pounds. My surgeon is happy with my progress at this point. I was not recommended to take metformin at this point . Instead, my surgeon and gyn both feel I should wait a year post op to determine if I need to take it. At this point they feel it is best to allow my body to adjust to all the changes and see if things can regulate on their own. I am still having irregular periods with more frequency than before. I was told that within the first year this is all normal. The surgery has been a big adjustment for me physically and emotionally. Yet, I feel is the best decision I made for my longterm health. I would recommend you read the book a pound of cure or see the video links on youtube by Dr. Mathew weiner. He does a great job at explaining bariatric surgery and how it works. Also, he gives us tips on how we can be successful. There are several videos which are very insightful. Regarding PCOS and bariatric surgery I think everyone's experience will be different. It also depends on what type of pcos symptoms are most dominate in your body and how your body reacts to surgery. I remember when I did my research I was conflicted between getting the sleeve or the gastric bypass. Ultimately, I went with my doctors recommendation. Yet, I remember many post saying the bypass was the way to go if one had a pcos diagnosis. Then I remember reading another article that said the outcome in decreasing symptoms was about the same with both surgeries. In the end you have to feel certain with the decision you make and have to feel it was the best decision you could have made for yourself.

    Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!

Michom88 that is Amazing! I wish I would have had such success! That is Amazing! I have lost a total of 60 pounds. Hope to drop another 60 to reach my goal weight for my first year. I will still be in the overweight category but not obese. For the second year I plan to drop another 20 pounds and reach my ideal body weight.
  4. I noticed everyone around me is dieting too. Strange how people become self-conscious about themselves.
  5. How many calories are you eating at 7months post-op?

    Calories at 7months post op

I have been hungry... Yesterday i had 1,500 calories. No junk food but still went over. I noticed there are days I can eat much more than normal.
  7. This weekend someone told me "oh you dont want to hang out with us anymore now that you are skinny" after I removed myself from the dinner table once they started bringing out multiple cakes and cookies. Then there was an awkward silence. I just replied back " no i just cant eat junkfood and dont want to get tempted". It really hurt my feelings but I felt proud of myself for not giving in to my junk food cravings and saying no to family trying to push unhealthy food on me.
  8. ???? " I cant be the big one" - ???? ThAt sounds familiar to me as well.
  9. Feekenstein - cant wait to see your post! I am excited for you. This will be an amazing journey!
  10. IveGotThePower Great Response ! ????????????????????????????????
  11. This is also a helpful video. I also recommend his book.
  12. Thank you for the great advice. This is why some people gain weight after the first year or two if they dont monitor their intake. Thanks for the guideline.
  13. I notice the smaller i get my husband has become increasingly grouchier . He is constantly asking me why am I so concerned about my looks and if I am trying to impress someone. I tell him yes I am trying to impress myself - there is wrong with that. Whenever I ask him to do something he acts as if I asked him to run 5 miles. All of these excuses not to do anything, not to go anywhere. All he wants to do is stay home and watch television. I was hoping he would see my progress and want to follow through with bariatric surgery himself but I don't see him on that path. He says he does not need surgery but I know he has a food addiction and I really feel it is coming between our marriage. I feel like I am moving towards a healthier life and he is stuck in his ways. I am hoping that with time things do get better and he realizes that we both need to make changes to improve our quality of life. I know I have a good husband and that all of these changes are hard on him too. Anyone experiencing something similar ?
  14. I am going to bring this up with my therapist when I see him. I know there is much more to process than described in this post- thanks ALL! I will keep you posted! ????????
  15. Lexigurl82 thanks for sharing. You are a strong woman! Congrats to you on getting out of that unhealthy relationship. Im not sure to what extent I should be concerned about my husband's recent comments or that divorce would be something to consider down the line. I am still processing things and trying to keep things in perspective. He has been supportive through this process and up until now I felt very supported by him. I do think that there are challenges we need to Iron out with time. I do believe that at 6 months post op my weightloss is very noticeable and he is feeling insecure about my new apperance. Bariatric surgery affects the entire family and I just have to figure out how its affecting my relationship and address the issues.
  16. Thank you candygrl - I will check into thay!
  17. So I am 6-months post op and have lost a total of 60 pounds. My goal is to drop another 50 within the next 6 months. I have started working out at home but feel I like motivation and guidance. I am wondering if joining a gym would keep me motivated and help me reach my weight loss goals. Any suggestions - advice?
  18. So much for waking up early and getting my workout in and tracking my food intake all week. As soon as I had an opportunity to have some ice cream it was automatic. I did not have to think about it I just did it. I now feel so guilty. I know its not the end of the world but I dont want to fall into bad habits. I have really been trying and each day I strive to do better. I just hate it when I slip. Yet, I find it so easy to slip on certain foods.
  19. ????????????????????????????????????????✍???????????????????????????? I completely agree! Lets keep dancing, processing and meditating, reaching for our goals, planning our meals, working out, celebrating our small accomplishments, writing down our food intake, reading food labels, surrounding ourselves with positive support networks and always remembering to appreciate the rainbows! Happy Sunday !
