    Failure

I am so sorry your Dr. treated you that way. What a jerk! I went to a diet doctor pre op who fired me as a patient when I cried after only losing 10lbs in 4 months even though I'd exercise 1 to 1 1/2 hours every day, gave up carbs and alcohol etc. What I notice in your last post is a lot of cheese. Try cutting out the cheese. You might be lactose intolerant. Could be causing the constipation. Also, my NUT has me communicate by email. Maybe you can scan your food log and email to NUT and get a quicker response than waiting until Feb. Good luck from fellow slow loser but I'm plugging at it. I've lost more than I would have without surgery.

Time off for 360 body lift

OMG that is discouraging to hear. I could never take off 6 weeks.

    Sugar-free cough drops

Be careful. If you read the warnings on the Halls sugar free, if you consume too many it gives you the runs. I had a problem with that before surgery and could only think it would be worse post op.

    Tasting foods

I am at 2 months and had an egg in a very small tortilla this morning. I didn't die. LOL That being said I don't plan on making it a regular item but since surgery I've found I need some variety. As long as you're sure it won't give you cravings I think you're probably ok.

    Family likes to eat out

I've found it doesn't phase the wait staff at all. LOL after hearing my sister in law with all her "special requests" my order is a piece of cake. Worst part of dining out is my family all trying to help me find something to eat. One time nothing struck me as something I wanted so I just had a beverage. I thought they were all going to blow a gasket. Anyway, thankfully they've all calmed down and if there isn't something on the menu the kitchen can usually cook something to order. I eat what I can/want and take the rest home for another meal or if one of my nephews is along there are never any leftovers which works out too.

    How sad is this?

How inspiring and motivational I find you all. Thanks for your posts and sharing your struggles. One of the reasons I finally did the surgery was I just finally got tired of trying every fad diet. My bookcase is loaded with Eat Clean, Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels etc. I should have a big bonfire. I am not as far along to my goal but I just don't want to deal with weight loss programs anymore. No more fat brain syndrome.
  7. Happy Belated Birthday. Way to go girl!!!

    Need a Healthy Snack

I found these parmesan crisps at Costco - Whisps. 100 calories for 15 crackers. 9g Protein. 0g sugar. 7g fat. Satisfies the need to crunch and after a couple I don't want anymore. Have yet to eat 15 as a portion.
  9. I'm worried that I won't have anything to wear soon!! LOL

    Feeling strange

I don't know about you but before surgery I hated to look at myself in the mirror. I'd even stopped putting on makeup so I wouldn't have to look. So I think we are so ashamed of our bodies and don't want to be noticed pre op that once we start to lose weight it is really uncomfortable to accept encouragement/compliments. I still have those weird thoughts about what they thought before but really who cares! Just be glad you did it, say thank you and really take it in. You've done the hard work and it's paying off and people are noticing Congratulations!!!!!

    Why the Slime?

Same here as for MiaF. Eating too fast, eating something too dry. or something my stomach doesn't want. I find that some days I can eat eggs and others it's disgusting. I had chili today which initially went down find and then slime. It's disgusting but I'm at 2 months and it is happening less often thank god.

Someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. I'm on pureed foods so I mix a scoop of that in to whatever I'm eating and that helps me get to the right number of grams. It is so hard to get down 60 g protein and 64 ounces of Water a day. I feel like I'm constantly trying to force something down. My surgery date was 11/19. It's getting easier though and the Genepro helped. I even add it to bouillon, mix it in the nutribullet and that way I get extra fluids in.
  13. I am at almost 2 months also and had the same problem with nausea added in. Mine was dehydration. I really pounded the Water for a couple of days and the symptoms went away. I also struggle with getting in all the Protein and fluids but have found the Fluid to be more important. Also someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and it has been a godsend. It has 30 grams of protein in a small scoop. I mix that into refried Beans, chili or eggs and that way I get the protein grams in even if I can't eat 3 full meals.

    Looking for buddy

I'm much older (56) but I was 305 when I started. It's been almost 2 months and I'm down over 50 lbs (have stopped weighing myself because I was getting crazy thinking I was losing too slow). My family and husband have been very supportive but I've found even with that it's only my journey and almost feel pressured because they are trying too hard to help. Going out to dinner with family is stressful because they all are trying to find something I can eat. One meal I didn't see anything I wanted and my husband told me I was just being difficult. If you want to be buddies, I'm here. Good Luck.
  15. I paid extra for emergency row tickets only to be told that you can't sit in that row if you need a seat belt extender. This was the first/last trip I asked for or needed an extender. How utterly humiliating. To top it off Virgin's seats were so narrow that the arm rests dug into my hips the entire flight. My god that flight was excruciating. My Dad and his wife were traveling with my husband and I to Scotland and my Dad, who is 6'3" and not overweight, even complained about the seats.
  16. OMG I nearly bolted from the hospital the day of surgery because I waited so long. They made me get there at 845 and didn't do my surgery until after 1 pm. If my husband wasn't there and didn't drive me, I probably wouldn't have made it. I hope your daughter is going to the hospital with you. Having Ron there helped. I had all the same worries. I had a poop incident on days 2 and 3 post op but nothing since thank god. The poop incident was probably from gall bladder removal according to doctor. I also have to admit when everyone else is having a normal meal and I'm struggling to get down my 60 grams of Protein I think that I shouldn't have done it. That being said, every day for the last week I have been able to go shopping in the back of my closet and find things 2 sizes smaller that I can wear. You don't know how insanely happy that makes me. Also, I have severe arthritis in my left hip and used to have to have Ron put on my sock on that foot but now I can do it myself. I feel like a kid that finally learns to tie their own shoes. Good luck!
  17. 51 lbs is great. My NUT only wants me to take in 60-80 grams Protein with 64 oz Fluid. Not allowed fruits. Maybe you can try talking to your NUT and they can help but it sounds like you're really doing great. I too worried about being slow compared to others but each of our journeys will be different. Try not to be hard on yourself or to compare.

    Surgery at 56?

I turned 56 last June. Had my surgery done 11/19/15. No regrets except that maybe I should have done it sooner but work always got in the way. Got laid off which gave me plenty of time. LOL. Anyway I'm not using the scale because I was going crazy but am down over 50 lbs. I've lost 2 sizes and my lower back is finally starting to feel better. Go for it. It's never too late to do something for yourself.
  19. I too was going crazy with #'s. I finally stopped getting on the scale and go by how my clothes feel. I will be two months out and I'm down 2 clothing sizes. I've tried every fad diet and would lost a little and then my body would plateau for so long that I'd give up and regain everything. Post surgery I think about everything I eat. I have not been perfect but I'm aware of everything I eat now. Appreciate the progress and don't get hung up on the numbers . . . it will drive you crazy.

    Afraid to eat!

Also, someone posted here about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder with 30 grams of protein. I had a hard time finding thing I could tolerate at first. By adding the GenePro to the yogurt or cottage cheese I got to my protein goals.

    Am I losing too slow?

I am 6 weeks out and moaned about my slow weight loss at the beginning. Thanks to my nutritionist and all you wonderful people here you finally convinced me to get off the scale. I've gone from 3x to a 1x that fits loosely in 6 short weeks. I have tried so many diets and felt like a failure. I have lost more weight with this surgery than I was able to do on my own. Even though I haven't weighed myself almost 3 weeks my clothing has gotten looser, my complexion is brighter, I feel and look younger. Don't set yourself up to fail by setting pound goals. The weight will come off. My doctor said that the surgery will only take care of about 65% of the weight you need to lose you will have to work hard for the final 35 (not that the first 65 will be easy, just easier than without surgery).
  22. My doctor said not to use a straw because it adds air to your intestinal tract causing bloating and gas pain. I found an unflavored Protein powder GENEPRO that I've been using to add to broth because I was bored with Protein shakes. I didn't find a cinnamon bun flavored one on amazon that wasn't too bad and to up the protein I added greek yogurt to my shakes.

    Sickening symptoms

I too experienced the tiredness and the nutritionist told me to up my Water intake and the tiredness went away. Still having problems with nausea though.
  24. My husband went to the hospital with me and stayed through the night. When the neck and shoulder pains came from the buildup of gas in the intestinal track, he would rub my back until I burped and the gas released. You will never know how much comfort that gave me. He also was there to make sure that I got to my room after recovery because the hospital was in no rush to move me (8 hours). He made sure when the doctor said I could try Clear liquids that I got Water. He took care of the things I didn't have energy to do. He got the presciptons filled before we left the hospital. Once home he prepared clear broth and liquids for a couple of days until I felt up to doing it myself (I had a hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removed at the same time I was sleeved). Now 6 weeks post op he listens to me, as I've had remorse like everyone else. He doesn't complain hearing me moan about the scale not moving ( in fact he finally convinced me to stop weighing daily). Another thing, he notices the changes in my body and compliments me when I can fit into something new; he doesn't make a big fuss (he would rarely say anything before surgery - except when he thought I'd dress too matronly). I guess what I'm saying, and it sounds like you're willing, is to not push, let her ask for what she needs and just be supportive in any way you can. I am so grateful for my husband throughout this journey.
