    Travel/Vacation After Surgery?

Oh it was AMAZING! I grew up on the east coast and I was over for a wedding, and then I decided to tour the major cities over there for fun So good catching up with old friends

    Travel/Vacation After Surgery?

Hi again! My holiday is over- I'm not going to lie, finding stuff that satisfied my hip pocket AND the lifetime conditioning of 'finish what's on your plate' and working with aggro chefs who'd get mad ('why didn't they eat my food?! What's their problem?!') was HARD. Tapas was OK portion wise, and had more protein based stuff and flavour without being deep fried or breaded or carb-based... But my last stop was foodie-heaven Melbourne, where the prices are good, the food is amazing but the portions are epic!! You'll probably do better on the cruise, because you can make contact with staff and ask for what you need. But I wish I'd brought some protein sachets with me in hind sight. I've barely eaten 500 Cals a day, and most of those Cals haven't been very nutritious!

    Travel/Vacation After Surgery?

Oh and I totally get the fear- I think I've been a bit lucky and I've figured out what works and what doesn't pretty quickly, but one 'surprising' thing that I find hard to digest is white meat. My NUT/surgeon said red meat would be the problem child, but chicken/pork just 'sits' in my tummy. I'm a big fan of 'listen to your body'- it tells me pretty quickly (like within a mouthful) what will work and what won't!

    Travel/Vacation After Surgery?

I'm ordering pretty much whatever I feel like- I know there are certain things that I just can't do anymore, though. Anything with a high fat content is a problem, so deli meats are off limits, as are cream-based anythings (even ricotta the other day didn't go well). And any carbs just take up too much space, Even a rice paper roll with no noodles in the filling was too much. I'm still doing a lot of liquid stuff just to try and up the nutrition. For me the biggest struggle has been just getting over a) my fear of being 'difficult' for the chef and just asking for smaller sizes/take away containers, and my need to empty my plate. I'm on the east coast of australia and we're having a heat wave right now, but this has been my 'day', usually: Smoothie/iced coffee (no cream) Melon tubs/small piece of fruit (skins are still a bit filling) Some kind of meat and salad- I had a Vietnamese beef salad, a burrito 'bowl' (no rice or wrap). Or just meat- I had 5 prawns for dinner one night, and a chicken skewer another... I bought soup, but it's been too hot!! I've still got a week and a city to go, and my next experiment is tapas- I'll let you know

    Travel/Vacation After Surgery?

I'm about 5 weeks, nearly 6, post op and currently on vacation. Coz I'm on 'normal' diet I didn't plan to bring anything with me, but I'm finding it tricky to cope with portion sizes and it feels like a 'waste of money'! When I have spoken to the staff at restaurants and such, I've found them to be super accommodating. Most of the time (I've only just started asking) they'll let me order kids portions or take the rest home with me. I'm sure on a cruise they'd help you out as much as possible.

    Dairy stops weight loss?

I used to be lactose intolerant (beautiful, unexpected side effect of surgery is that I'm not anymore!!) and dairy made me retain weight, even when playing by 1200-1500 Cals and 45 mins exercise min. But now it's a staple. If you're legit concerned about it, talk to your dr about it- maybe you've got an intolerance.

    time it takes to eat

Dying as in uncomfortable, but like you I've vomited (only twice) when I've eaten too fast. But both times have been with chicken. Maybe it's another of my 'stolen foods'. Since my sleeve a few of my used-to-be fave foods are now nauseating or I can't keep down... No more coffee (GASP!!) or creamy things, so maybe chicken is another one! Thanks for replying

    time it takes to eat

I'm really struggling with adapting to portion sizes and eating speed. I'm a teacher and part of the culture is eating when you can super quickly. Tonight I had like half a chicken breast (if that) and then three teaspoons of rice and I'm dying. Any tips?

    what's your fat habit?

I've had the same thing!! I went onto puree and stopped. It seems to have kicked in again now I'm on more solid foods though. I'd really like to maximise too.

If you have been sleeved, I need your thoughts

I only had/have 30kg to lose (which is about 66 pounds) and my doctor was all for it. My previous attempts weren't working (and I'd tried EVERYTHING and been really good on them all too). While it's still 16 pounds more than you, it's still considered a "small" amount to lose for sleeving. While everyone's journey is going to be different, my weight loss has been comparatively slow which makes me *think* (obviously I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me) that maybe with a smaller amount to lose it goes slower??? I honestly don't know. My mum had about 50kg (110 pounds) to lose and she did it a lot quicker than I think I will - I've only lost 9 kilos in 4 weeks (which I'm still pretty happy with, but my mum had lost double that at the same time). At the end of the day, you need to listen to your body, your doctors and express your concerns to the professionals. Good luck - I'm sorry we can't give you a clear-cut answer, but here's our two cents' worth

    Drinking alcohol

My doctor didn't mention it, but I had a glass of wine this week (I'm almost 4 weeks post op) and was fine. Having said that, I got halfway through said glass of wine and felt really tipsy, so decided to let that glass be spaced out over about two hours Update 2 (ish) weeks later: as we've come into the holiday period, I've been pushing it a bit I think. We had the work Christmas do (2 glasses), the next day a friend's farewell (2 glasses) and then the day after I went to a wedding and had three glasses of wine, one sparkling (over like 5 hours) and I've had the worst 'hungry stomach' I've ever had for two days. I think it's acid (maybe) but seems like that's what's upset it. I was being well behaved otherwise. So, lesson no 2 learned the hard way- limit the liquor!! Also I'm very well versed in my nutrition, I know they're empty calories, etc etc but it was a choice!!
  12. Thanks lovely people! I think I must've been fixating Coz what'd ya know, guess what happened this morning all by itself?! Will def keep the hints for solids though- I'm from Australia, so do you know what the active ingredient in miralax is? We don't have it here, and people seem to swear by it.
  13. Hi everyone, So, it's an icky question, but I'm going to ask... I have no problem passing wind - that's fine. The fifth day after surgery I had really horrible watery diarrhea, but it's now 11 days post surgery (so nearly a week since my last BM) and nothing doing. I'm still on nourishing liquids only until Friday, so my theory is there's probably not a lot in my intestine anyway - I'm assuming the majority will be going through my bladder, but 6 days is a long time when you're used to every day or at least every other day. Other people's experience would be lovely to know!
  14. I had the hideous diarrhea too! But I think it was from the Gatorade - I'm now on the other end of the scale! Jen Em Cee I'd never had surgery either so the whole thing has been a bit of a "AHHH! WHAT'S HAPPENING?!" moment!
  15. There are a few on Facebook if you're interested in that medium. Curvybritt I'm also drinking about that much - I was wondering if that was weird too. Any thoughts?
