bad test results back today.....
JaxBandster replied to bjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wooo Hoooo! Glad you are back on your way. I'll be getting my band the day before you so I'll keep you in my thoughts! -
Go ahead and brag! We can live vicariously through you! I am on the newly formed finance committee for JaxHOG  We have a good time with the chapter, they are a great group. It's going to be warmer where you are at than here in Florida!!!!!!! And color me REALLY jealous about going to the 105th Anniversary! Way cool! Yes, everyone needs to come to Daytona next year (or Biketoberfest in October which is really nice!) Just let me know when you're on your way! Okay, I'll brag too, I just got out of the jacuzzi. It's a nice night outside under the stars and the tiki torches  Have fun on your pre-ride! Does your chapter "ride to eat" like ours does? LOLOL

Patti! Hang on girl! You can indulge at McDonald's! You just have to make good choices. Order a big mac and just eat the meat and lettuce, or order a grilled chicken sandwich and just eat the chicken. They also have salads and balsamic dressing. Now onto Thanksgiving. You WILL be able to eat turkey. In fact, turkey is great protein! Just make sure it is moist so it goes down easy and chew chew chew. You will be able to eat most anything on the menu for Thanksgiving, just a LOT less of it (if you have eaten like me!!!!) and you will be satisfied. I have heard that once you start to get used to eating the banded way, that you start looking at the way other people eat and are amazed at how they just gobble down food in whole big chunks without really tasting it. You will get the hang of eating to really enjoy food without inhaling it! So don't worry, you WILL be able to eat all kinds of things. For instance (and remember I'm not banded yet, just on the pre-op diet but I will continue the same diet after I get back on real food after banding), yesterday I did really good on my food counts and only had about 15 carbs even after I had dinner, so, for a treat I actually got to have a quarter of a cup of REAL ice cream! OMG it was so good and I savored it and ate it very slowly. By the time I was done I was already so full from dinner and then that on top of it I was almost uncomfortable. I had only had seven ounces of pork roast, a cup of spinach and a cup of salad for dinner. I was stuffed!!!! You will eat very similarly after banding (but even less). You will make sure you get your Protein and veggies, you will track it and then, if you've had a really good day and you are feeling like it, if someone offers you something decadent, you can have a LITTLE of it and not be deprived of a little treat. The important thing is to watch your portions and make sure you get that protein. Don't worry, you will do great!

JaxBandster replied to JaxBandster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Never heard of him!! :tt1: I didn't include anyone on the prior list who didn't have votes or who wasn't running anymore (or at least I thought I didn't) Mike Gravel? Is he Dem or Rep? -

JaxBandster replied to JaxBandster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If this poll is any indication it's going to be one heckuva close race in November! LOL -
It's probably a bit too late to be asking this now, but how long do they require? Good luck on your surgery tomorrow!! I am one week behind you!!! They should give us a tranquilizer to take the night before surgery. I know I will be nervous as well. :tt1: You will do great! Write and let us know how you are doing!

Poll - Democrat or Republican?
JaxBandster replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Registered Libertarian here. Fiscal conservative, social liberal. -
I have had two episodes. The first was about 15 years ago. I went to a podiatrist who had orthotics made for me, then injected cortisone (numbed the nerve in my heel first thank God!), and used ultrasound. It eventually went away. The second round I have had now for the past year. I have tried everthing. Night splints, arch supports, taping, stretching, oral steroids, cortisone injection (and he did NOT numb the foot first!!!!!! OMG!!). The only thing that I haven't been able to get was the ultrasound and I'm beginning to wonder if that made the difference before. I am at the point now of trying the accupuncture. At this point I will try anything. I am almost disabled from the pain sometimes (having to use a motorized grocery cart, having to support myself using the edge of the bed when I first get up. I'm sitting here now in $100 Air Nike's with arch supports in them. I am hoping that weight loss will help but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Can we do a new poll now that things have narrowed down quite a bit? I'd be interested in seeing the results. (Morbid curiousity) -
Why do I keep doing this to myself?????
JaxBandster replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Of course, maybe your body is doing you a favor. Do you know how many carbs are in a banana??????? They would be off limits for me even if I could eat them. In fact, I can eat them now (one week until banding!) but I am allowed no more than 30 carbs a day on my pre-op diet. If I ate a banana that would equal at least half of my daily carb allowance. :tt1: So don't feel too bad! -
My first suggestion would be to google gastric bypass versus lap-band. I just did and there are a ton of articles comparing the two without having to rehash here. Then I would suggest scanning both kinds of forums like this and read about real life stories of people who have both. The down and dirty difference is: Gastric bypass gives faster results but the complication rate is higher and there is more of a chance of nutritional deficiencies. Lap band is slower weight loss but much less in the way of complications and you are able to get your nutrients better. Hope this helps and good luck with whichever method you decide on.

Just a little clarification, they don't pump your stomach full of gas, they pump your abdomen full of gas. Unfortunately, the only thing that works for that gas is the walking. Gas-x will help with any digestive gas you are having. The OP's problem was not with gas but with the hiatal hernia repair she had done which also causes discomfort specifically in the left shoulder.

Feeling Reluctant...
JaxBandster replied to redrockgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wouldn't get rid of them just yet. You aren't going to wake up from surgery and be skinny! You need something to wear while you become that way. Don't worry, you will have plenty of time to become an ebay addict! LOLOL -
Give it a chance to relax, but if you aren't better in a day or two I would go get an unfill
-
Don't forget to go back to either mushies or full liquids for a day or two in order to give your pouch a chance to heal. I guess it can get irritated after a major PB episode. Just relaying what I've heard
-
PB = productive burp This tends to happen for a couple of reasons. Either you are eating too fast or not chewing your food well enough. When you are eating you must cut your food up into very small pieces (about the size of an eraser to the size of a dime) and then chew chew chew and chew some more until the food is pulverized in your mouth. Put your fork down between bites, eat slowly. If you follow these guidelines then you will probably not PB. If you do overeat or eat too fast then the pouch rejects what you ate and it comes back up on you (sometimes rather quickly from what I understand). So you want to make sure you follow the rules. If you do, you should be okay.

Hi Kwaka I would go to the food section of this board, they have a ton of recipes and information there! Good luck!

If you aren't already, eat Protein and veggies, stay away from starchy veggies, fruit, sugar, and other carbs. No grits, bread, potatoes, oatmeal, Cereal etc. If you do this, you WILL lose. If all you are eating are things that go down easy, you will not lose. Read your labels. Not all Protein drinks are created equal, some are loaded with carbs. Keep your carb intake to around 30 gms a day. Then, exercise!!! Start off slow. Maybe 15 minutes then increase the next week to 30. Losing weight is a simple formula. Calories in - calories burned. The band will help restrict your intake but you have to make the right food decisions in order to make it work for you. Go to FitDay.com or other food journaling sites and record EVERYTHING! Keep track of your nutrition and caloric intake. Make sure you take your Vitamins. You can do it!
