    Jacksonville, Florida

Hi Susan!!! Welcome to the group! We are trying to get active here! I know there are a bunch of us Jacksonville people, we just have to get them here and get them talking and sharing! I'm sorry to hear that you've had some complications (nothing serious I hope). But hopefully you can get back on the losers bench with us helping you along and vice versa. My surgery is Thursday so I need all the help I can get! Talk to you soon!

How bad is the pain from the surgery?

They are repairing my hernia as well and for some reason that has me fretting too! LOL I don't know why! I'll be thankful not to have to take $180/month prescription meds anymore! See, I'm already benefiting from surgery!

    banded 1/30 - why am I hungry?

Are you doing a lot of Protein drinks? Consuming a lot of protein will help your hunger. Please try not to stray from your doctor's post-op diet. They have you do this for a reason (i.e. to prevent slippage). Your stomach needs time to heal and the band needs time to get seated properly.

    Wierd pain near left kidney...

Gall bladder pain is generally in the center of your chest right below your sternum. It manifests differently in a lot of patients (radiating to the right or left side) but generally doesn't start there. I would contact your doctor and ask.
  6. If you are in the DFW area, there is a yah00 group called DFWBandsters that is VERY good!!! I am on it and I live in Florida! LOL They may be able to help you in this area.
  7. There is a specific forum for doctors if you look a little further down the list. A lot of people compare and contrast doctor's there. You might be able to find some info there. You can also search the entire forum if you look on the upper right of the screen for Quick Search. Hope that helps

    Banded Bikers II

I'm pretty sure I got a bunch of miles in for everyone on the board! LOL Wooo Hoo, you are getting banded on Fat Tuesday! Nice huh? Of course, I am getting mine the day after lent so we all know what I'm giving up! I am planning on doing the same thing as far as keeping myself busy and trying not to think about it. If I overthink it I begin to stress out. I know if I just do it and get it over with the rest will take care of itself. Good luck on your surgery and I'll see you over on the banded side!!!

    Banded Bikers II

Well I rode a LOT this weekend!!!!! It was gorgeous here! We had our HOG chapter meeting on Saturday morning then 50 bikes rode down to Green Cove Springs to Ronnie's Wings. I guess I behaved myself. I had ten honey BBQ wings and a huge delicious salad with balsamic salad dressing. That was pretty much all I ate all day. Then yesterday we met another couple at the Cheyenne Saloon down in Palatka then rode down to Ironhorse in Daytona and back again. I did okay on food. Ordered a chicken salad which was tasty. But didn't do so well in the alcohol department! I probably had about six good sized white zinfadels. Yeah I know drinking wine at a biker bar is odd but it has the least amount of carbs of all the alcohols! LOL Unfortunately, my consumption quantity didn't help my caloric intake and neither did those peanuts I kept munching on!!! UGH. So it was my first really bad day since I started my pre-op diet. I don't think I went over 2,000 calories which is still a helluva lot better than I would have done in my former life, but I am a bit worried about the effects on my liver so close to surgery. I am hoping that by getting back on track today and then doing my liquids on Tuesday and Wednesday that I will be fine for surgery. Oh, and it certainly didn't help the scale!!!! I am up a couple of pounds but I know that will come off as well :frown: Okay, enough of my complaining. I had a good time this weekend and got to do a bunch of riding in beautiful weather before my surgery on Thursday which is what I wanted since I didn't know how long it would take me to get on my bike post-op. Ride safe!

    What in ur hospital bag??

I'm not planning on taking anything. I'm doing a same day surgery deal and having had this type of surgery before (lap gall bladder outpatient), the only thing I wanted when I was at the hospital was for them to leave me alone and let me sleep! LOL I'll have everything I need ready for me when I get home.

2 problems on postop day 2

I would get the Gas-x strips that melt on your tongue instead of the pills. Just as a precaution.

    AlkaSeltzer Cold & Flu

My doctor does not require me to give up coffee or tea. It seems that every doctor has different rules.

How bad is the pain from the surgery?

I can't answer the question about pain personally as my surgery isn't until Thursday. But I can say from reading this and other forums is that everyone is different. Some people are up and around the next day and others don't feel up to it for about a week. I've heard that days 3 and 4 are usually the worst. I'm not going to tell you that you aren't going to hurt but from what I understand it is bearable and the pain medications and Gas-x strips help. I think that most people get liquid Lortab for pain and sometimes also get meds for nausea if needed. You do not want to wretch right after getting the band. You cannot feel the band inside of you but most people can find their port if they push on the spot where it is. You usually cannot see it at least at first. I have heard that some people can see it once they lose all the fat covering it up. Hope this helps.

My body, my band, my BETRAYAL

Yep, you're right, with that attitude you will fail. I'm sorry no one told you that you were going to have to pull your load in order to lose weight with the band. Shoot, even with bypass you can gain weight if you don't eat what you are supposed to. What are you eating? Are you eating Protein first, veggies second and carbs last? Are you staying away from bread, Pasta, rice, and potatoes? Are you exercising? Unless you do your part, you will continue to fail. It's really up to you.

    Newbie, insurance questions

I would redirect this question to the insurance forum. They will probably be able to answer there.

    Anyadvice

You are either eating too fast or not chewing enough. Slow down and chew chew chew chew chew! Make sure you are eating your protein first then your veggies, it will help with the hunger.

Wombat, that is the corect way to eat for a bandster. If you eat you protein first it will keep you satisfied longer.

    Advice, Encouragement or Wisdom

Sometimes a very small unfill will be just enough to get you in exactly the right spot. I wouldn't be afraid of it. You can't continue the way you are going right now unless you stick with fluids until your band settles down.

HELP! New problems with throwing up

Sometimes you can have a delayed response to the fill. Have you called your doctor? He may want to do a small unfill in order to help you keep your food down. I would also go back to liquids right now in order to rest your pouch and stoma.
  23. JaxBandster

    Is this normal??

She needs to be drinking. She does not want to get dehydrated! Make sure she is getting plenty of fluids. Little bits at a time every 15 minutes.

    post op nausea and meds

Teanne, I would definitely do what was suggested and call your doctor to get some suppositories for the nausea. You don't want to heave like that with the new band. The more you heave, the more you are going to irritate your new pouch and the swelling won't go down which is probably what is causing your nausea in the first place. Don't worry, I know it's rough now but in a few days it will seem like a distant memory.
