Welcome home all of you!!! You all sound like you are doing so well! Rest up and get your strength back so you can help the rest of us start our journey along with you!

Thanks to all of you for your good thoughts! It's really helping. I did the big clean of the house today so I don't have to be worried about that so I guess I'm ready! LOL My poor husband is really in for it though. We were both cleaning and he was in the kitchen cleaning it up for me and as I walked by he gave me a good hard smack on the backside! Usually I'm giving it right back to him or saying "oh baby!" LOL, but this time I turned on him and yelled at him to stop it real angry and then I started crying!!!! LOL He started giving me hugs and telling me how sorry he was and then I felt like a real heel! I know it's all nerves, but unfortunately he is on the receiving end of it. Fortunately he is a really understanding guy. I'm really lucky to have him. See you all on the banded side!

Sorry Wanabthin I guess I just read so many people here who do make poor food choices and then are amazed that they are gaining weight that I thought your situation was the same. That you had no restriction, hence you were eating the way you wanted to. I still don't think McDonald's was the best choice! My understanding is that you will know if you have a slip. You may have just had too much taken out. Maybe a small adjustment will do the trick. In the meantime, watch the carbs and sodium!

Surgery Center just called. I need to be there at 5:45 a.m. and my surgery is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. Holy crap! This time tomorrow I will be banded!!!! I've done everything I'm supposed to do. I have everything I need. I have people praying for a successful surgery. It's all in God's (and the surgeon's) hands now. Right now my gut feels like it might feel when getting on a roller coaster ride that hasn't started yet. You are sitting in your seat, strapped in and waiting for the ride to start moving. I hope this is worth it. I hope I'm successful. I hope I don't regret it. I hope a year from now I can look back and say it was the best thing I ever did for myself like I hear so many others say. Here I go!

Could you do this with optimal restriction?
JaxBandster replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats MizPeppy! You have figured it out!!!!!!!! You are on your way to being successful!!! See you on the banded side! -
UGH! You ate half a big mac and half a thing of fries????? Do you know how many calories you ate? 400 calories, if it was a small order of fries AND 40 gms of carbs!!!! The calories aren't terrible but the carbs are and don't even get me started with the amount of sodium (which makes you retain water)!!!! The band will not work if you do not make good food choices. People say that you can eat anything you want just less of it after getting the band, and for the most part that is true. But, if you continue to eat a ton of carbs and high fatty foods, you will not lose weight and may even gain. The only way you will lose is if you eat the bandster way. Protein first, veggies second and then carbs if you have the room. Eat only until you begin to feel full then STOP. Don't drink with meals. Eat small bites and chew chew chew! You can do this, but it's entirely within your control.

It really sounds like all of you know what you are doing wrong. You just have to have the strength to not sabotage your weight loss by eating the wrong things. Carbs for me and for you are a poison. Our bodies greedily store them away in our fat cells and our liver. We cannot eat like other skinny people do. I know some people who eat carbs all the time and don't gain an ounce, but that's not us. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are addicts. Some people can drink alcohol without it affecting their lives. Others can't. The sooner we admit that we cannot indulge in our "drug" without adverse effects, the better off we will be. We will always have to be careful with our drug of choice and monitor our intake of it. Like an alcoholic, it will always be a day to day battle, for the rest of our lives. The bottom line is will you control your life, or will carbs?

How bad is the pain from the surgery?
JaxBandster replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand, the pain is a little worse when you have a hiatal hernia repair. I have to have mine repaired as well and that is what my doctor told me. -
Has anyone heard of this?
JaxBandster replied to ajoneen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had something similar done in a doctor's office when I was having my vocal chords looked at when I suddenly couldn't sing in my upper register. It was weird feeling but not painful. They generally numb your nasal passages before doing it. No biggie. -
I would definitely call your doctor if you are experiencing pain that bad. Try to walk as much as you possibly can. I hear that it really helps. It may not be comfortable but you will heal faster. Hope you feel better soon!

My body, my band, my BETRAYAL
JaxBandster replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you tracking your carb intake? How many gms are you consuming a day? Good job on the Protein, that will help with hunger. -
Hey Peter! I wrote you also over on the February Bandster list but wanted to reply here as well. Glad to hear that everything went smoothly for you. I will be on Thursday and we can start comparing and contrasting our journey! I'm going to be at the Jax Beach Surgery Center. Hopefully they are as good as the staff at Memorial! See you on the other side!

Poor Peter!!! I can't believe they tortured you will pizza right after getting your band! That is just cruel and unusual punishment. I'm glad to hear that things went smoothly otherwise and that you are home and moving around well! I'll be joining you on Thursday! Keep up the great work!

Hey Babe! It sounds like you are doing REALLY well!!!! Congrats on your band and keep on walking. It sounds like it is doing the trick for you. The soreness should be gone for the most part in a week or so. I'm right behind you!

When did you really start losing weight
JaxBandster replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not too much longer to go!!! Just keep in mind that you may not get proper restriction right away. Even if you don't, just keep eating like a bandster and you will do fine! -
When did you really start losing weight
JaxBandster replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is not uncommon about 3-4 weeks after surgery and before you get your first fill. I have read countless threads of people saying exactly the same thing so you are not alone. You will start losing again once you start getting fills. In the meantime, make sure to stay away from carbs and don't stuff yourself just because you can. The band controls quantity, not quality. That's your job, to feed your band the right stuff. Carbs will take you right back to where you started. So hang in there, follow good eating habits and look forward to your first fill. -
Good luck marathoner!!!! Let us know how you are doing when you are feeling up to it!

I'll be looking for this thread on Thursday!

Need some reassurance!
JaxBandster replied to zetajenn5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You all may want to go down to the monthly support groups and find the group for your month (seems mostly January here). I am in the February group. It really helps to be able to talk with other people who are in the same part of the journey as you. I know it has helped me and I haven't even had my surgery yet (this Thursday is my date). Good luck! -
Change! Surrender! Let go! or else....
JaxBandster replied to deneicy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL, great post. I too read a lot of posts from people who are still eating a ton of carbs and wondering why they aren't losing. I sit and scratch my head and wonder how anyone can miss all the posts about eating Protein first, veggies second and THEN carbs if you can fit them in. This is for EVERY meal, not just dinner. Protein, protein and more protein. Preferably in solid form as shakes go through the stoma easily and you will get hungry right away. The band will work but you have to feed it the right things. I think a lot of people go into this thinking that after being banded they can resume eating all the things they ate before but less of it. While this is true, it probably isn't going to help your weight loss very much. I love rice, potatoes, bread and Pasta. You have no idea how much. Even I didn't realize how much until I had to give them up for my pre-op diet. Holy smoke. I will eventually be able to have them again in moderation, but as long as I want to be successful in losing weight I need to drastically reduce them from my diet. One day they will be a part of my food intake. But not right now and probably not for the next year. In my mind, it's a small price to pay. Getting off my soap box now. -
DISCOURAGED... anyone else?
JaxBandster replied to SeattleGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's only been four days. From what I hear, days three and four are the worst for a lot of people. Some people are up and bopping around right away, but the majority from what I have read have said that the third and fourth day were the worst. Did you have a hiatal hernia repair as well? That will increase the pain in your left shoulder. I hear that a heating pad is very comforting. Don't forget to keep walking, even if you don't feel like it. This is supposed to help as well. I haven't had my surgery yet (will be banded on Thursday), but I've read a LOT! LOL Hope you feel better soon!
