    Holy Cow...Beautiful Rejection

LOL Becca that's great!!!! I entered my numbers today for my new weight (237!) and according to that weight my BMI is at 36! I started at 40. So according to my new BMI, I would now have to have some pretty serious comorbidities to qualify for surgery. How neat is that? (Going to the Allergan site to see if I can get rejected too! LOLOLOLOL)
  2. Yes, they should give you medications for both to take home.
  3. No, they didn't address my plantar fasciitis at all. I was day surgery so it probably didn't matter. I haven't worn night splints in a while. They didn't do anything for me and were hard to sleep in. Hoping weight loss will help some.
  4. 33 lbs since my first appt with my surgeon back in mid January. 13 lbs since surgery a little over a month ago. 40 lbs from my highest back in October.
  5. Bibo Are there any local support groups in your area? Does your doctor have a therapist you can speak to about your relationship with food? What is normal exactly? Being able to run through the drive-thru and order a Big Mac and a large order of fries? Maybe that has become normal in our culture but it's not healthy at all. We have become a fast food world in a fast food mindset. Even regular home cooking. I would make these big delicious meals and I would absolutely stuff myself. Two helpings! Two platefuls! At that rate, I wasn't going to be able to survive to see my grandchildren! There comes a time when you have to decide which is more important and why food has such control over your life. Food for us is very much like booze to an alcoholic. It controls our lives and it wrecks our health because we can't seem to consume it in moderation. You say you can't pick up your two year old right now. At the rate you were going, were you going to be around to see him/her graduate from high school? How many diets have you tried and failed at? I too sometimes think I should have given diet and exercise one more try. Well to be honest, I am dieting now! I have to watch my carbs and my calories. I have to make good food choices. But the one thing my band helps me with is quantity. Even if I do indulge in some mashed potatoes, I can't consume nearly the amount I used to! I am in a partnership with my band. It can't do it without me and I can't do it without my band. It definitely sounds like you have not come to terms with the changes you are going to have to make in order to be successful. This is a drastic lifestyle change and commitment. But it's a commitment to yourself and to your family. You're not going to be any good to them if you cannot move around or have diabetes, sleep apnea or any of the other comorbidities associated with obesity. You and I deserve to be healthy and happy people, not someone who is a slave to food. Find someone you can talk to locally to help you through this transition.

    umm... $5000 dr. fee????????

My surgery was same day surgery performed in an outpatient surgery center. It is usually up to your doctor if you can have it done outpatient or they require you to stay overnight in the hospital. If you have sleep apnea, I know they like you to stay. There are other reasons as well. Check with your doctor.

How honest are you with your surgeon?

When I had to go in last week due to some discomfort I was having, I mentioned to the doctor (not my surgeon but the other surgeon in his office) that I had been plateaued for a couple of weeks. He immediately went in on me about carbs, that I was getting too many. Well, I knew for a fact that I wasn't because I had been tracking them. My surgeon allows for 30 gms of carbs a day excluding green vegetables (I don't have to count them). I rarely ever went over 30 including green veggies! I didn't like being automatically assumed to be guilty of eating too many carbs right off the bat. I know they must have a lot of people who cheat on the band, but they shouldn't assume everyone does. Since that appt, I have relaxed a bit on being so stringent and have actually had some bites of mashed potatoes, sweet potato, six nachos, etc. and I have started losing weight again. (I've also started my monthly which could have been another reason I was plateaued!) I'm not going crazy with the carbs, but I'm not being as severe with my intake as I was before. The only thing I have been having to avoid is the milk, just because it's so high in carbs! If I make a Carnation Instant Breakfast with two cups of milk, that is my entire carb intake for the day and then some! The one thing that helps me though is that it increases my calories which I think I have been deficient in (only averaging around 700-800 a day which is why I think I plateaued). Pre-band, I was on the Three-hour diet which did not exclude carbs. It emphasized portion control, and daily caloric intake (around 1200 a day). I lost like crazy (60 lbs in eight months) before I started losing control of my portion size and began to gain it all back and then some. I figure I can lose weight like that again and with the assistance of my band, remain successful and not revert back to my old ways of over-eating. I didn't get the band in order to feel deprived. I should be able to eat like a responsible and normal person from the main food groups. I will still eat my Protein first, veggies second and carbs last, but I'm not going to deprive myself completely because I know myself and if I feel deprived, I will binge and fail. Sorry to get on a rant but it has bugged me ever since that appt.

    Calling all February Bandsters!

Hi Gone! I ride! No the vibration won't make the band slip. The only thing that can cause slipping is repeated vomiting, PBing, etc. My doctor said I could ride as soon as four days after surgery! I didn't really feel up to it until about 10 days post op. But I'm four weeks out now and have been riding my butt off! I ride a Harley Fat Bob. What do you ride?

Gas Pain In My Left Shoulder!! :[

That is more than likely the cause of the pain in your left shoulder. Probably not gas pain. Gas pain should be gone in a few days to a week. I also had a large hiatal hernia and my doctor told me to expect this. I am four weeks post op and still having pain in my left shoulder. It is sporadic. I sometimes get it when I'm hungry or when I've eaten too much. Sometimes it will hurt when I've done too much. Mine was a large repair as well. Do you have intense discomfort when you burp? I have been having a lot of trouble with that, it's been pretty severe. I'm really glad not to have acid reflux at night anymore, but I'm really getting tired of this pain. On a positive not I was down two pounds today after being on a length plateau so that helped to make it worth it.

    Banded 2.15.08

Hi and Welcome! I completely relate to you on the not drinking with meals thing. It has definitely been the hardest thing for me to adapt to. Don't worry though it gets easier. My doctor says if I HAVE to have something, go ahead and drink five minutes before eating to quench your thirst, but definitely wait at least 20 minutes after eating. I try to wait 30 if I can. Congratulations on becoming a Double V!

    Where do you live?

Hi Leather! I was in Anchorage both times. We had to drive up to Palmer for a visit and also went to Seward. I would love to go back up for pleasure next time and rent a couple of Harley's and see the state from the back of a bike. That would be awesome! If I had the money and could have a summer home, that is where it would be! As an aside, I've never been to Montana but if it is half as gorgeous as Wyoming I would want to have a house there too! LOL

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

You don't know what you're missing Angie. There is some seriously good talent on this year. Next week it will be down to 12 though! Tonight's picks for me were Amanda Syesha Carly Brooke I think Cady and Kristy will go home

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

Wooo Hooo! Amanda rocked it tonight! Finally she did good! I wonder what is up with her not smiling though. I think she may have really been insulted last week about her attire/hair etc. (Notice how she toned it down this week and looked much better) I was amazed that Simon liked it though. The secret with her I think is that she doesn't need to over do things. She just needs to get up there and rock the joint. Keeping it simple.

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

Hey Becca! Yeah I'm still around! Just been busy riding my motorcycle and stuff. No Bandster Hell for me. I still have restriction four weeks out. Weird huh? I had to go to my doctor a little early this week for another reason and he tested me by having me drink some Water and see how long it took to pass through my band. He said if he gave me a fill that I would be too tight! I'm able to eat a decent amount but not nearly as much as I used to eat! I actually had a fairly sizable lunch today and I'm really still full. Have a little head hunger right now and may have some sugar free Jello but don't think I can get down anything else substantial. How are you doing???? Yeah I thought Jason did that song flawlessly. He is sort a hippie throwback kind of kid. Really cute and genuine. Like you, I don't know that he is the next Idol, but I definitely think he will be successful in his niche.

What kind of TV shows do you watch?

Yeah, Food Network is torture for me anymore. Except that one show that is about low carb cooking! LOL

    Where do you live?

    Yeah! Another Steeler!!!

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

Yeah, they need to do something about the comb over when they move to the next level and start to do make overs on them. I have to wonder if Amanda's hair was her idea or their stylist's idea. She looked like Cruella Deville had just stuck her finger in an electrical outlet. Either that or her hair got stuck in that position while she was out riding! Either way, it was pretty hideous. Have to agree with Simon on that one. You know who else I think could really have a future is Chikezie (sp) He has a really nice voice and I could definitely see him on the R&B charts. What do you think of Jason Castro (dred dude). He is so sweet and mellow and I think he's talented. Just don't know that he has what it takes to be the next AI.

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

ROFL! I'm the same way. I never say anything bad about anyone. I guess these people on TV are so far removed from us that it's "safe" to say bad things about them. Okay, I did love the "ish" comment! ROFL!!!! It was the little head bob that got me. Oh and for what it's worth, I have many gay and lesbian friends and I think that he would annoy them too! LOL He sort of reminds me of the flaming con in the movie Con-Air. You know the one that was so excited that he found a dress after they crash landed the plane and pranced around in it? LOL Then he took a machine gun and proceeded to go shoot at people. Hence the drag queen comment. Unfortunately, the last time I went to a drag show, the guys had better bodies than me! Go figure.

What kind of TV shows do you watch?

ROFL!!! You are like my best friend! She hates football, but she actually made an effort to understand it at least since she's my best friend. She will still kiddingly ask me what inning it is
  21. JaxBandster

Leather, I have a bone to pick with you.

I think of riding my Harley! But now that you have put it out there I will probably never be able to see his name without thinking of that song. Thanks!

What kind of TV shows do you watch?

LOL, you and me both. I mourn when the pro bowl happens and I actually watch the draft and pre-season! LOL I love college too especially my GATORS! <chomp chomp>. Will be loving my lapband come next season when I won't have to squish my butt into those seats at the Swamp! For pros we are definitely Jag fans, also Steeler fans (DH is from PA) and da Bears! (ex is from Chicago by way of Ireland). So yeah, I live and breathe football and motorcycles LOL

    American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!

You're too funny. Yes! David Archuleta is so talented it's scary! He has a very promising future. I hear the record execs are already salivating over him. Not sure exactly what demographic he will appeal to though because he's so young. I can forsee another Justin Timberlake or something though. Big with the tweens early on and then matures to hit it big on the pop charts with a slightly older teen crowd. I also really like David Cook. Thinking he could be another Daughtry. I think Michael Johns will be right there at the end as well. I love his accent :bored: As for the girls, my fav is Carly. She has a wonderful voice and I love the fact that she is Irish LOL Syesha definitely also has it going and should be right there at the end as well. At first I was really big on Amanda just because she's the rock and roller and she rides, but her last couple of performances have left a lot to be desired. She needs to step up big tonight or faces elimination tomorrow I think. Okay, last but not least. Is it me or does anyone just really want to smack that Danny Noriega kid? Did anyone see his myspace video on TMZ? What a punk (no offense to the punk rockers out there). He'll make a great drag show queen. I think he is going to be this years Sanjaya. (He does have a good voice though, I'll give him that much, but his attitude ruins it for me) Okay, that's my picks and pans. What about the rest of you Idol watchers (you know who you are!)

    umm... $5000 dr. fee????????

My surgeon's fee was $5,000 and the surgical center was $8,500, anesthesiologist was $250, program fee (whatever that is) was $500. Total was about $14,500. I was self pay however. Don't know why the $5,000 wouldn't be covered by insurance. Does your doctor not use any insurance companies?

    PB-any experiences?

Hey you! I'm here, just been busy riding! (It's Bike Week down here and always something going on) Haven't put too much time on the computer. In fact, I was thinking about running about for an hour or so just to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having today (Sorry to all the northerners). Had to go to the doctor this week because I've been experiencing so much discomfort when I burp. I guess it's due to my hiatal hernia repair being rather large and it's taking it's sweet time to heal. He tested to see whether I needed a fill or not (a week early) but he said I still had good restriction so I will see what happens next week when I go back in for my scheduled fill appt. How are you progressing? I'm still sitting at 29 pounds. Been struggling with the same two pounds for a couple of weeks now. The scale just doesn't want to move. Guess I'm going to need to get my butt out there and exercise. UGH. You would think I would be losing as little as I eat now!
