Fill Dates - How many weeks for you?
JaxBandster replied to Lori_K's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nope. (Man I really feel like the carb nazi on this forum) Go to FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and log in what you have listed above, then tell me how many carbs you have consumed. I'm betting you are WELL over 200. Bread, milk, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, Cereal, and granola bars are LOADED with carbs. What is wrong with carbs? They make you HUNGRY!!!!! (not to mention they make you fat) The more carbs you consume the more they make you crave more and stimulate your hunger. The best thing you ate was the pork chop and broccoli. So humor me. Count up the carbs. Then, spend some time eating Protein and eating less than 30 gms of carbs a day excluding green leafy vegetables and (after going through carb withdrawal) let me know how you feel. If it doesn't work, then go back to what you were doing before, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that it will. Be forewarned though, you will feel like crap for a few days. Fatigue, headaches and nausea are just some of the symptoms of carb withdrawal. Your body literally goes through physical and mental withdrawal. I actually made this transition before surgery and was absolutely amazed at how much my hunger diminished. -
How much restriction from 1st fill?
JaxBandster replied to JaxBandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dang. I just tried to eat some tuna salad. First solids since my fill two days ago. Prior to my fill I could get down about a cup. Just now, I really struggled to get down a QUARTER of a cup and I don't really think I achieved that! Gee, guess this thing really DOES work! LOL Gonna try to do a Protein shake here in a bit to try and get my calories up. Pretty neat! -

That's a great idea! I need to get back to logging so I can do that too! Based on what I'm seeing above, I would recommend trying to increase your calories at least a couple of hundred! Protein looks pretty good but couldn't hurt to be higher. Carbs aren't horrible but lower is better. Definitely work on the calories though (maybe through increased protein), it will absolutely help you take the weight off! -
Isn't that the funniest thing though???? It's an odd sensation to be trying to consume more calories in order to lose weight! It works though! At least it did for me. I've been on liquids (full and clear) for the past couple of days since my fill and am eager to be able to eat more so I can get my calorie level back up. Today is the first day in 10 that the scale hasn't dropped so it has to be due to not getting enough calories. Amazing!

That is an excellent word and one I have felt as well in the grocery store! There are still areas that make me a little weak in the knees, i.e. the bakery, but I just pretend I have blinders on and walk past it. A word on the packaged, flavored salmon. I got some teriyaki flavored the other day and while it was tasty, it was a bit strong and dry for my liking. I think I am going to focus on getting it fresh from the seafood section and putting some sort of teryaki sauce on top of it. Should be quite a bit more moist and flakey and doesn't take very long to cook in the oven.

Becca that is so sweet and awesome! I can't think of a better anniversary present than smaller clothes!!!!! I also have an NSV to share! I can now fit into a size 20 jeans!!!! My 22's are starting to get too baggy so I put on the 20's and I could zip them up. They were a little tight at first, but after wearing them around the house for a bit they got to feeling just right! I can't wait to be able to wear the 18's I was wearing a couple of years ago during one of my prior weight loss attempts. I have a bunch of clothes in my closet that I haven't been able to fit in for a while and I getting more and more clothes that aren't fitting me now because they are too big! This is such a wonderful thing!!!!!

Fill Dates - How many weeks for you?
JaxBandster replied to Lori_K's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
4 weeks post op, next one is in three weeks. I guess he does them about every four weeks. I really empathize with you who are having to wait 8 weeks. That just seems to be so long! :grouphug: -
Okay, I put the poll out there. It has to be under the general Florida heading as I can't put a poll in this existing thread.

Hey Kelly!!! My appt was with Dr. Cywes (it's funny we were there on the same day! My appt was at 3:30) For some reason I actually prefer Dr. Cywes personality wise. That may change over time but he has a really dry sense of humor that I seem to relate to better. I have absolutely nothing again Dr. Babtista, I think he's awesome as well, just a small preference between the two. Had absolutely no problem hitting my port thank goodness and didn't hurt at all so I was really thankful for that. Hmmmm I wonder when he will give me my homework! LOL I am ridiculously diligent when it comes to my carb intake so I should do good there. It's the exercise part I'm not real good at. My preferred method of exercise is walking and I can't do that right now due to an extended flare up of plantar fasciitis. It just hurts too much when I spend too much time on my feet. Hopefully that will improve some as I continue to lose weight. I'm hoping for warmer weather soon so I can start using my pool more. It's heated but I'm a weanie when it comes to Water and have to have it at least 85 degrees before I get in it! LOL Congratulations on your weight loss so far! You are doing great!!!!!! I'm going to do a poll on the list to try and figure out which is the best day for us to get together. From the sound of our locations I'm thinking that a location on the southside somewhere near 295 is going to be the most convenient for everyone. Talk to you soon!

Hey Kelly, St. John's Town Center is on the east side of the river just off of 9A/St. John's Bluff Road area. Is it going to be there or over on the westside somewhere? I knew they were working on getting a new place, they sure need it! I would love it if they move it to the Town Center area. That would be so much closer for me coming from Ponte Vedra. Karen

Are you tracking your food intake? Try FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal That will at least give you an idea of how much you are really consuming. I know that some days I feel like I've eaten so much and I've only consumed 800 calories! Other days, I hardly consume anything at all and am about that. It's all about food choices! Go to fit day and start logging your food. It will really help you feel better about what you're eating or let you know that you need to cut back. Hunger or the lack thereof is not a good indicator. P.S. What kind of bike do you ride?

It will be here before you know it. Just try to stay busy! Hang in there!!!!!

LOL, yeah fruit is not something you should be consuming on a regular basis. Way too much sugar! I'm only supposed to eat it sporadically at best. Meat and veggies! (and be careful for some of the veggies as well!) sweet peas, corn, lima beans, and others have a higher carb count so you have to watch those. I know we didn't get the bad to have to diet anymore, but the simple fact is that we (the general population) eats WAYYYYYYYY too many carbs that the body can't use for energy and then gets turned into fat (not healthy for our liver either!) I confess, I am such a carb addict it's not even funny. But if I want to get to the weight I want to be, do the things I want to do that I couldn't do because of my weight, and live a longer, healthier and happier life, then I need to cut back on my carb intake drastically to a much more normal quantity. I'm just really glad that chicken wings aren't high in carbs! LOL (as long as they aren't breaded :huh2:) -

Wow, no red meat for six months? I wonder why that is? It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Just keep pounding that Protein, if you have to snack, make sure it is high in protein and have a lot of willpower. I know it's hard, but yes, it will get better. -
Tell you what I have discovered though! Take an Atkins Carb Control vanilla shake, put a couple of packets of splenda in it, and about 1/2 a tsp of clear vanilla extract and I'll be damned if it doesn't taste almost exactly like a vanilla shake!!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!
-
LOL, or maybe some more Protein or veggies! :cool2: I can tell right now I'm gonna have to be cracking the whip with all you ladies!! How am I gonna depend on you guys during my weak moments when you are all out there eating ice cream!!!!! :huh2: I'll be asking you to pass me the bowl!

I believe it's just FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal It REALLY helps to track EVERYTHING! You can see what works and what doesn't. What impact increasing/decreasing your calories, carbs or Protein has. You can also track your weight and your exercise/calories burned on it. The online version is free or you can purchase the software that you can download onto your computer. The free version is generally good enough though. Make sure to itemize your custom foods as well. Certain brands of things that you may eat all the time that aren't in the general food log. I have my Protein shakes, salad dressings, cheese, anything and everything, even my Vitamins. -

You're not a bad horrible person, but I also don't think you are helping yourself out at all. Between mashed potatoes and ice cream, you are taking in a LOT of carbs and that will sabotage your weight loss. You and I are carb addicts. The more carbs we ingest, the more we want, the more we eat, until we are out of control. It is our drug of choice. It makes us feel good. Part of getting the band is physically, the majority of it is mental. We have to change our way of thinking about food. What is more important, ice cream or not getting diabetes or high blood pressure? This is really a major lifestyle change. I'm not saying that a treat every now and then is going to hurt you, but to be cheating this early in the game is not good. I remember before surgery when I was on my pre-op diet, my husband got me some ice cream on a day when I had been particularly good on my calorie and carb intake. I could "afford" it intake wise, so I had a 1/4 of a cup. I make it last as long as I could! LOL I love ice cream dearly, but it's not something I'm going to be able to have for a while unless it's a special occasion and in very small amounts. It's definite NOT something I keep in the fridge! :huh2: Are you logging your food intake on FitDay or another equivalent site? I think if you start doing that (if you aren't already) it will be an eye opening experience for you. My doctor has me on no more than 30 gms of carbs a day excluding green leafy vegetables. After a two week plateau (normal for right after banding), I have dropped 10 lbs in nine days. The band will work for you, but you have to work with it. The band will only help with portion control, you have to feed it the right things. -
It doesn't sound like any heartburn I've ever had. Have you tried some chewable Tums or something to see if that alleviates the symptoms?
-
Lesly, I have trouble getting my calories up there as well. We just have to find that delicate balance of getting calories without too munch quantity or carbs! It's a balancing act for sure!

Are you trying to eat as much protein as you can? That will help to stave off the hunger. When do you get your first fill? -
Shellie, just give it time, it will come off. One thing I changed up was to make sure I was getting enough calories. I was only doing about 700-800 a day and I bumped that up a couple of hundred. When I did it seemed to shake things up a bit.

That's funny. I was looking at the honey roasted peanuts in the cupboard today! Decided against them though!
-
OMG I love the pin up idea! I actually have some links for those. My husband loves pin-ups. Harley has pin-ups on all their shirts now and he collects them. The pin-up idea is perfect! Thanks for reminding me!
