Randy, I'm still here! Just been busy doing stuff and riding a lot. Been brainstorming all sorts of mods for my bike. I need to get a job if I'm going to be spending all this money! Sorry to hear you guys have been having bad weather. Hopefully it will clear out soon! Riding season is here!
-
Hi D! Nice to meet you! Hope your approval goes quickly and you are on your way soon!
-
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! That's great news!!!! I didn't really feel up to riding until about 10 days post op. I had some lingering discomfort from my hiatal hernia repair but that is over with now and I'm feeing great! You will be feeling wonderful in no time as well!!!!!! You are on your way!

Calling all February Bandsters!
JaxBandster replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tina, it's very common. Hang in there, your fill will help but you probably won't get good restriction until your third or fourth. -
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck tomorrow!!!! You will be fine, it doesn't hurt at all!

Calling All Surgeries Monday February 25th
JaxBandster replied to valvinnek's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brina I had to laugh when I read your post. I ate pulled pork for lunch today (without the bread as well) I had that and a side salad with lowfat dressing. Only ate about a quarter of the salad. I LOVE me some BBQ!!!! Fortunately, as long as it's not too dried out, I can have it. It's bad enough that I had to give up the majority of my carbs but if someone told me I was going to have to give up my pulled pork they would have a war on their hands! The only bad thing is I like to have mustard BBQ sauce on it and I know that probably has a ton of carbs. Oh well, I'm good for the most part! -
The first thing I would do is find the support group for the May bandsters. Not that we aren't willing to help you here and we can, but it will help you to compare notes with people who are getting banded in the same month. On that same note, I also spent a lot of time in the January bandsters group so I could get an idea of what to expect before I had my surgery. I also spent a lot of time in the pre and post op surgery sections, again so I could just read the threads and learn what to expect. My advice is just to read, read, read and read some more. If something isn't clear, ask questions. Before you ask a question you may want to see if the subject has already been addressed by doing a search of the forums. Odds are it probably already has. (The search box is in the upper right hand corner, you can also search individual sub forums). Good luck, you will do fine!!!

Congrats Anna! You're looking great! I can already tell a difference after just one month!
-
I don't have any problems with salad yet. From what I understand it varies from person to person and can even change with a fill.
-
Erink, Congratulations on the carb breakthrough!!! It's a great thing. I shudder when I think how many carbs I used to consume. I now consider myself to be much more normal.

Have they rescheduled you for Wednesday? Did they give a reason why the surgeon couldn't fit you in? That has to be extremely frustrating! I know I wouldn't be happy at all and would be demanding some answers especially when it is inconveniencing my entire family. Hope things work out okay for you.

Doc says, "It won't work unless you make a lifestyle change"
JaxBandster replied to angelsoul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's been over two months and you aren't on regular food yet????????????? Holy smoke!!!! I was able to eat real food after three weeks! I usually don't advise going against doctor's advice but two months is just silly. Eat some real food especially Protein. It will help with the hunger. -
I was put on low carb three weeks before surgery. Lost 20 lbs pre-op! My doctor also requires clear liquids two days before surgery. Sounds like you have a good plan. Stick to it. It is important to shrink your liver prior to surgery to reduce the risk of complications. Good luck!!!!!!!

Cindy, I've lost most of mine watching my carb intake. That is what my doctor prescribes while you are trying to lose the weight both pre and post band. He requires no more than 30 gms of carbs a day excluding green leafy vegetables.

How much restriction from 1st fill?
JaxBandster replied to JaxBandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sharon, you should definitely feel some restriction. How long it will last is another story. It seems that everyone is different. I can already tell that I'm able to eat more than I did right after my fill and it hasn't even been a week yet. We will get there though! -
How much restriction from 1st fill?

Angie, I'm right with you about the restaurants. We eat out all the time! Things are going to get interesting now though as my husband is starting a new job tomorrow after being unemployed for over a year. I was laid off back in August and am still looking so we have been living a life of leisure for a while now. It will be interesting to see how we adjust to having a schedule! LOL -
Becca, I don't think it was the butter. I eat butter all the time (margarine has carbs). It sounds like you behaved yourself really well so I know it has to be frustrating. Don't worry, it will go back down and then some. You just can't tell sometimes why the scale moves the way it does. You could be retaining water for one reason or another. Just keep on track and it will happen. (I'm proud of you for not resorting to the ice cream)

Oh I can empathize completely. We do a lot of riding on the weekend and we aren't on any schedule so we grab food when and where we can. Weekends are definitely the hardest. Add to that the fact that my kids and I went down to Lakeland this weekend for my ex husband's annual St. Patrick's Day party. This year was a small party and included was 5 corned beef briskets 1 whole 60 lb pig two huge shepherd's pies cabbage and potatoes soda bread plus everything that other people bought which included numerous Desserts I did very good though. I had some corned beef and some pork and some shepherd's pie. Didn't do so hot in the alcohol dept although the drinks I made were mixed with sugar free tropicana orangeade LOL I think the worst thing I did over the weekend was have some thin crust pizza extremely late on Friday night after we got into the hotel. But we were hungry and there weren't very many places open at 11:00 on Friday night that were healthy. We will see how much damage I did in the morning when I weigh in.
-
Angie that is fantastic!!!! I'm finding myself eager for my next blood work to see how my cholesterol is! LOL
-
Hi Eddie! I'm St. Johns County too! Near the corner of US 1 and 210. Nice to meet you!

Restaurant discovery of another kind. Took the kids to IHOP today and on the back of their menu they have quite a few "carb conscious" meals. I had the "big Breakfast this morning which consisted of 4 eggs, bacon, ham and sausage. I ate about half the eggs, some of the bacon, half a slice of ham and gave the rest to my son LOL
-
Katie, that is all great news!!!! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all! Just got back from being out of town over the weekend. Hoping I didn't gain very much as it was for a social (eating event). I tried to make good choices and as I look back over the weekend I think I did. I even made my alcoholic drinks with sugar free Tropicana LOL. I still probably went over my carbs on Saturday but over the whole weekend it probably averaged out. I still have two and a half weeks until my next fill so I will get back on track and be fine. I think I'm going to go out tomorrow and seek out places for us to meet. I think I know the general area, just need to scope things out and make sure it's a bandster friendly place. It looks like Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday around 7:30 is going to be the best. Unfortunately, there is no one day where everyone is available so maybe we can shift the days around a bit instead of staying on one single day of the week. Dr. Cywes gave me the talk this past appt about not concentrating on the scale and focusing more on my lifestyle. He said that once I took care of my lifestyle, that the scale would take care of itself. I think I'm doing my part so far! I sure as heck didn't go as overboard as I normally would have this weekend! I'll let you guys know what I find in my looking around tomorrow!

Jax, FL Poll - Which day is best?
JaxBandster replied to JaxBandster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well shoot, I was hoping that there would be one day that was left open where everyone would be able to meet. Looks like we may need to just mix it up a bit and meet on various nights of the week. -
Gibson, you're so funny!!! Glad you found yourself a treat!!! I've been big on Atkins vanilla shakes, with two packets of splenda and some vanilla extract. Tastes almost exactly like a vanilla shake. Now I have to work on freezing it! LOL
