    Struggling - Update

I'm going for a sleeve to bypass conversion on August 18th! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  2. I'm booked for sleeve to bypass conversion on August 18th at NY Presbyterian. I've been having painful reflux since my sleeve in December 2015. I've lost about 113 lbs and my weight is still dropping, albeit slowly because I'm not feeling great so I'm not working out. I blew every goal I set out of the water, if hoped to be under 200 lbs, my dream was to get to 160 lbs, I'm currently around 150 lbs. When I was 16 I was 140 lbs, so this is very surreal for me. The reason I lost so much is because my pouch twisted in the middle, so is now hourglass shaped, basically meaning I can only eat half what I should at a time, and if I don't chew really carefully I tend to puke. They discovered this during an endoscopy and the barium swallow test to investigate the reflux, which I assumed was an ulcer. I'm also very private about having had this procedure, only my hubs, children, and a couple of very close friends know. I'm also worried about dumping, I do get it now but usually only after something liquid with high sugar, like ice cream, so I don't eat that any more. I can even eat cake with frosting! I've developed more of a sweet tooth since the sleeve, but I'm sure I'll adjust to whatever I end up with. As someone else said, you stop wanting to eat things if they make you feel terrible. New York

Westchester, having sleeve to bypass revision at NYP too, they are really wonderful there. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  4. My surgery was the 9th, I've lost 19lbs since then. I'm also meeting protein and water goals. Allow yourself to accept the reassurances you'd give me! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Rude people

Mother-in-law, sister-in-law. They sound awful and toxic, I'm so sorry. None of my family knows about my surgery, just my husband and a couple of close friends. I'm not strong enough to deal with any negativity. You dud the right thing, tried to keep the peace despite them, then stood your ground when they pushed you too far. People who behave like that will struggle to find happiness, they truly are their own punishment. I'm so sorry. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

New sleevers how are you doing

Just keep sipping, the liquid leaves your stomach faster than even soft foods, so you can drink a little more than you can eat. Mine was the 9th, I keep an insulated travel cup with me and sip all day. For migraine we can only take Tylenol. My nurse suggested coffee for headaches, even if it's not a caffeine headache she said it can help. If you get migraines regularly it might be worth speaking to your surgeon or PCP to find alternatives, it may be that having NSAIDs occasionally is worth the risk if you're suffering. I used to get terrible migraines, I had partial numbness, lost part of my vision, then horrendous pain. It stopped when I was pregnant and never came back. Feverfew is a herbal remedy that can prevent migraines when taken daily? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Protein powders

I got this one from GNC, the staff recommended it, it tastes just like a regular milkshake! It has 25g Protein, I mix it with soy milk, the brand I use is West Soy, which has 9g of protein in 8oz. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Final weigh in!

Cut out salt too, it makes you retain Water. Stay hydrated, but try not to drink for an hour or two before the appointment. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    December 9th!

I love the one called Amplify XL, it looks like proper techno bodybuilder stuff, but it tastes just like a real vanilla milkshake, no nasty aftertaste. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    December 9th!

I went to GNC, told them I was struggling to find Protein Shakes I like, and that I can't stand stevia. They were SO helpful, he suggested a tub of vanilla powder that looks like some weird techno body builder protein, but he said it's the one most people like, and he was right! It tastes good, has 25g protein per scoop, and I have it with soy milk, which has 9g of protein in 8oz. I have two of those a day and haven't been hungry! Are you getting protein from other sources? 13. What stage are you at? My surgery was on the 9th, I have to say I'd really like some real food about now! My husband's been cooking for himself and the children until now, I just avoid looking at their plates, but it's tough! The only thing stopping me is knowing that my stomach isn't ready, and that it's a slippery slope! Plus remembering that my new stomach is healing as my incisions are, so still needs time before it can handle anything but liquid. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    December 9th!

I'm not waiting at the moment, TBH, I just want to get down whatever I can! I'm just sipping super slowly and walking around the house if I push it too much and it gets uncomfortable. Once I'm on purees I'll time it better. How are you managing it? I'd suggest calling your surgeon's office about your meds, they'll be able to tell you what can be crushed and can give you scripts for liquid alternatives. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  15. Just got home, after 3 days of water then nil-by-mouth I have a terrible headache and I'm so tired. I tried to make 4 oz of protein shake, I'd added the heartburn and nausea meds, plus my liquid painkillers. Thought I could sip it over a few hours but I've only had an ounce in an hour and a half, sipped slowly. Think I'll need to chuck it and go to bed! Need to wait another couple of hours for my children to go to bed first.

Did anyone talk to you about your meds before the surgery? I wasn't on any so it was simple, but they wanted to give me alternatives if I was. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    December 9th!

What meds are you crushing? All mine are liquid apart from my heartburn ones, but those are capsules I can open and sprinkle. I was able to have 2 full shakes today, plus soup/broth, and about 48 oz of Water. Are you able to get much down yet? I'm trying to take it easy but worry that skipping water or Protein will slow healing. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  18. Mine was 6 months, I had 6 months medically supervised weight loss, but my pcp was able to post-date the info from previous appointments. My BMI was 40, so I maintained for 6 months. I had a consultation with the surgeon at the beginning of June, had my surgery December 9th. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Just home, feeling terrible

So much better, thank you! Slept pretty well last night, just back from walking a couple of miles in the unseasonal warmth! Still figuring out the nutrition side, but feeling a lot more normal, which I'm glad of at only day 4!

    Mighty fine NOT

What's the sweetener in the pudding? Several artificial sweeteners have laxative affects! My NUT said to be cautious with sweeteners who's names end in 'ol' because we can be extra sensitive to those laxative effects post surgery. Your poor bathroom! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

New sleevers how are you doing

Every day is better than the last! I'm on day 4, last night I slept well without extra pillows, and could turn reasonably comfortably, though I turned awkwardly once and my big incision pulled and felt sore. Today is the first day I feel able to get dressed and leave the house for a little while. I'll also take my first shower!! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Meds

I was told no pills, though others are given different advice. What pills are you taking? Many have a liquid alternative, many can be crushed first, though Multivitamins cannot be crushed, they lose effectiveness. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  23. I'm so sorry you had such a rough time. How are you feeling today? I'm a day ahead of you, today is the first day I actually feel like I could get dressed and leave the house. I haven't even showered since the morning of my surgery! Think back to the difference between how you felt when you woke up yesterday, and how you felt when you went to bed. Compare it to the day before. Every day you're feeling a little bit better, every day you're getting past one more of the limited number of painful days we signed up for. A few more days and you'll be focused more on the positive changes in your body than the occasional pain. Then we can begin our exciting relationship with the scales for the first time! 24. My insurance has the same requirements, in addition to 6 months of supervised weight loss. I was at a BMI of 40 so I spent 6 months maintaining! Everyone involved gets it though, my NUT, PCP, and surgeon all thought the 6 months was unnecessary for most people but knew it had to be met, so they were supportive of me while I maintained until I got approval. 25. I'm only a few days out, but it was my first surgery too. It was weird to walk into a room full of people and equipment, looking just like a medical TV show, and being asked to go lay on the bed in the middle of it all. It was fine though, a few people introduced themselves and checked how I was, the anesthesiologist was nice, put in my IV, then put on an oxygen mask and that's all I remember before waking up comfortably from a lovely sleep! I'm ding way better now, but was very uncomfortable for the first couple of days, even with pain meds. It's worth being aware that the 'buyers remorse' stage is a very real (and very common!) thing when you feel like you've made a weird choice to incapacitate yourself painfully. It's a short stage though, and walking really helps, even just around the house. My surgeon wasn't fussed about the pre op diet, but I wish I'd done it more thoroughly, the headaches aren't fun when your body is recovering from surgery! I second being fit too, I had a shoulder injury about 6 months ago and quit the gym and I really regret it. I don't know if you have people relying on you, but to distract myself the day before surgery I cooked a load of meals for my husband and children to reheat. I'm feeling up to cooking today, but it's nice not to have to! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
