  1. I had complications (a leak) back in January-March had stents in. It was horribly traumatic. I was malnourished to the point I couldn't lift my head up and in so much pain the pain meds wouldn't touch it. Combine that with vomitting up anything I took in orally every day 3-6 times a day for 2 months...UGH! SUPRISINGLY, once the stents came out and I was able to intake nutrition (Protein shakes, liquids, soft foods) my body great stronger and stronger every day. Took approx 1 1/2 months to feel some what "normal" again. So now I have had an upper respiratory infection for 22 days. I've taken everything over the counter the Dr told me too (Flonase, Mucinex, Robintussin, Zyrtec, etc). I even had antibiotics for 10 days because I had an ear infection so bad my drum ruptured. So after a 2-day reprieve....I am back with the same funk again.... As if I haven't missed enough work or time with my kids already this year! Anyone else experience a low immune system post complications? PS I'm taking all of my baritatic Vitamins and getting in enough protein!
  2. I had major complications and lost 70lbs over 6 weeks. I know that I was severely malnourished and dehydrated for 6 weeks so I expected a little gain once my stents were removed and I stopped constantly vomiting....but I gained 4lbs in the last 3 weeks that I'm back home and eating and drinking! And even though I started back @ gym this week (slowly bc I'm still a bit weak and weary) I'm not budging at all on the scale. Any suggestions?? I'm only 3 months post op and I am not ready for the scale to stop!!! I'm getting in my 60g of Protein and fluids! Help!
  3. Anyone try these? Too many carbs maybe? http://www.julianbakery.com/paleo-product/paleo-protein-bar-variety-pack-6-bars-3-33-bar/?gclid=CNz6jbSY3csCFVg6gQodrukDKA

    Stall post-complications!

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I am def still healing. I am only weighing once a week so I am hoping that eases my anxiety a bit. The muscle mass loss I feel is the one of the things that may set me back a bit weight-wise while I regain strength. Very grateful for the resources and support in these forums!

    Stall post-complications!

60g is what NUT said I needed. I had a leak that wasn't discovered until I was septic a few weeks postop. I end up in hospital a little over two weeks and then at my parents house under their care almost like a home health with a nurse coming weekly so that my husband could still work full-time and take care of our small children that are 2 1/2 and nine months old. I was on a pic line for 6 weeks with IV antibiotics and a feeding tube for part of the time until it clogged and they removed it and never put it back. I had three separate gi stents placed and had an adverse reaction to them… where any liquid I would intake I would vomit back up within hours for 6 weeks--which is why I had the rapid weight loss. For the most part I feel significantly better still battling some mental brain fog some memory loss… I'm sure from the trauma… And some weakness and weariness. I would absolutely have the surgery all over again. I did this to give myself and my children a better life and that is still my primary goal… I just might pick a different surgeon if I could do over! I don't mean to sound whiny over 4 pounds at all. I think my main concern is I feel a little cheated that I wasn't able to follow a plan exactly and start working out soon after my surgery… Instead I was dealing with complications. I just don't want to see the weight-loss stop now and not get the strong smaller body I was hoping for (that I paid for!). I am currently looking for a surgeon who is willing to take me on for postop care as I'm not comfortable going back to mine. He did not handle my complications the way we thought he should have.
  6. I have. Still am. Not impressed with post op care at all! I've been "down" on 24/7 care since Jan 11 after 12 days in hospital. Surgery was 12/21.
  7. I was a self pay sleever on 12/21 and developed complications several weeks later. Will my insurance pick up the complications? Will my dr write some off? Am I going to end up filing medical bankruptcy? Starting to freak out!! Was in hospital 12+ days and had multiple extra surgeries. At home with a nurse coming 1x a week. Any advice is appreciated!!!!

    My leak

I've got 2-3 weeks left of 3 stents in. Any advice to manage the pain? I can barely keep anything down, I'm weak, most of all I'm in constant pain. Sleeved 12/21. Complications started 1/11
  11. I've been pretty depressed....to be honest. I felt SO SO SO good last week. Then Friday I had some discomfort in my side and hit a fever of 101.8. I assumed I just overdid it working so much with my business partner out bc her mom passed and the husband was in ATL so I was also flying solo with both kids. By Saturday I went to port orange for an inspection for My partner and my fever was up to 102.9 when I got some so I took a nap and then went back out to show property to a buyer (bad idea!)? When I got home it was back up to 102.8 and I was having discomfort in my left side and shortness of breath. Sunday I stayed in bed all day taking Tylenol hoping I just needed rest. By Monday i knew I hadn't declined this much in this little time unless something was wrong, I called the surgeon and when I got here he had ct orders and blood work written out stat for me with the complication insurance paying it all. As soon as I finished I went upstairs. He asked me to bring whoever I had with me in I thought...oh shit! Told me I had an infected abcess on my diaphragm-about 7cm wide.. They would put me under local anesthesia to put a drain in and they are checking for a leak again 1 more time even though first time looked like no leak. Anesthesia didn't work on drain insertion I cried like a bitch I felt like I was in some creepy Drs lab I've never met and he Kept telling me to keep quiet and lay still. Then came 2nd leak test. Radiology told me immediately there's was none and then dr Marema said I'd be going to the or for a stent. He's really been so nice the whole time. Then leak test #2 radiology says is good. Oh but wait here comes Dr M again with stent surgeon to say placement isn't ideal and in going back to OR yet again for a 2nd stent. In the middle of that infectious disease dr shows up to say my abcess is staff infection!!!!! So I'll be going home in a few days with a PIC line and 3 weeks of antibiotic ivs......that's the long of it. I've had a procedure and 2 surgeries since Monday---doc said I'm the poster child for everything that can go wrong. Although he usually only sees in 1sy week I just want to go home to my babies....as their healthy mom! ????
  12. I'm in bariatric hell. Stuck at my parents taking care of me because I have a toddler and infant at home my husband is caring for. Can't work. Having to liquidate assets for care I was self pay). Parents are starting to resent me being here and having to play caregiver. I would never do this again....I want my life and babies back! 4 more weeks to go....
  13. Another surgery today....2 stints moved today. Hoping to go home in a few days. Will be going home on iv antibiotics, feeding tube and drainage tube for at least 6 weeks. I'm exhausted....my spirits are really low....all prayers and advice are appreciated!
  14. Thanks for checking on me love it's a lot of ups and downs today's been a down but I'm looking forward to tomorrow being up! Should go home on Sunday will stay at least a week at my parents to heal away from kids and dog… Will go home on anabiotic IVs for at least three weeks with my Drain as well.

    Fever on day 12

Same thing happened to me! I'm 20 days post op. Was burning up the last 2 days as high as 102.8! Got some rest increased fluids and it went away! I said if by day 3 I still had fever I was going to call dr.
  20. I have a 2 year old and 6 months old. Was sleeved 12/21. My husband took 2 weeks off of work but by week 2 I was feeling great. I do wear out after working all day by the time the dinner/bath/bed routine comes around but I'm making it. My 6 month old is tiny so I can lift her and I was on bed rest for the last 3 months of my pregnancy with her so my toddler knows to crawl in my lap on the couch. I even have him grab diapers out his room and climb up on my bed with them so I can change him without lifting. My husband actually went out of town for a week last week and although I felt great all week when he got home I had a bit of a set back...it's like it all caught up with me and I was tired and sore from probably overdoing it. But honestly it's been a lot easier than I thought! I was worried about the kids and my recovery too! Ps take lots of double stroller walks post op. By 2 days post op I was walking at least a mile with the stroller---kids got some outside time and the stroller was kind of a support for me to hang on!
  21. I've got one more week until soft foods. How's everyone on them already feeling? Is it uncomfortable? What's your limit? 1tbsp? 2tbsp serving sizes? Just curious!
  22. Feeling Good in Week 2! Finally getting some stamina back and not exhausted from simple tasks. Broke out in this ungodly rash on my abdomen and thighs--not near my incisions. I've read it can be a ketosis rash which makes sense. Going to try some Benadryl cream. Going back to work today and looking forward to it! Down 15lbs since surgery and 28lbs since preop surgery. Looking forward to my "weigh in" every Monday. Follow up appointment with my surgeon is Thursday. What should I expect? Any questions I should be asking him? Happy 2 weeks everyone!
