New to this.....anyone from southwestern pa?
claddagh66 replied to conner7701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Connor I meet with my surgeon on March 3 to decide bypass or sleeve I'm hoping for sleeve but not sure. How bout you? Where are you sitting at this point? Where are you from? April is so close! Hopefully you can get it done in April. At my rate it looks like I maybe a July or August surgery. Sometime this week my coordinator is supposed to call with my appt dates. I'm getting very impatient lol. I started all this back in December. But had to wait for seminar which wasn't until late January. I have UPMC luckily with that insurance I just have to do a 6 month supervised diet, NUT/support group classes each month. (Due to a high BMI) Along with physic eval, labs, ABG pulmonary test, upper GI X-ray, and endoscope. My coordinator said she can get three of the tests scheduled and done in one day! Which is great... I also have to lose 5-10% weight in these 6 months What's the update with you?!? How are things going? -

Reasons given for requesting time off?
claddagh66 replied to xochtlem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told people at work that i was having stomach issues and had to get a scope. During that scope they found I had a pretty decent hiatal hernia and lesions and a hole in my stomach and I need time off to get that all fixed. They also know my thyroid is all outta wack so I've said I've lost some weight getting that started to regulate and I've lost 10 pounds. Hopefully with getting everything fixed I'll lose s bunch of weight and feel better! This way when I come back a little lighter there won't be so much talk -
What steps did you have to take prior to surgery?
claddagh66 replied to adashnau's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started in November. I have had blood work, complete gyne stuff, chest xray, ekg, stress test, echocardiogram, endoscopy, sleep study, psychological exam, and I meet with my nut every visit along with my PA. It's definitely a long process! -
DENIED---PLEASE HELP!
claddagh66 replied to jonfsgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at a 38bmi and am 5'. I have not been submitted yet but my doctor had completely reassured me as long as I didn't go below 35 I'd be just fine. I'm sorry your going through this. This whole even is emotional enough. I wish you luck the second time around and hope they find a way to pass you this time. I too am on maintenance meds for thyroid, herniated discs and gerd. -

Any April/May 2016 sleevers?
claddagh66 replied to shellba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Shelly I too thought I was great until I had all these tests run in me lol. Found out I too have mild sleep apnea along with a thyroid issue and the start of Barrett's esophagus and acid reflux. I told them I don't have acid issues and she said the silent is the worst cause you don't even know it's happening. Uggg. So I am now on Tagamet(prescription) and synthroid. I also had to have a complete gyne work up and since I never had a mamo (age49) please don't yell at me, I had to go to the next level and have an ultrasound due to unlivable findings. I'm ok with that. They just want me back in 3 months! I too had lost some weight. I'm a 38bmi but you would have to get below a 35 to not qualify. If you have issues it's easier to qualify. I don't have a set date although I have met all the requirements. My doc wants all this. My insurance doesn't require even half this stuff. I'm not sure how people get such s far projected date for surgery. I've never heard of that. I mean it all depends on your testing outcome and they submission to insurance and Doctor availability. Maybe I'm missing something. Good luck to you! Your going to do just fine!???? -
I would love to hear an update from everyone that has been chatting on here. Would be so neat to see where everyone is at this point.

Any April/May 2016 sleevers?
claddagh66 replied to shellba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm expecting an April surgery as well! Hoping for the sleeve but it may be the bypass due to new findings in my scope test. Good luck to you! How did you get your date so far out? I wish you good luck! -
Psych Eval Clearance is Making Me Crazy
claddagh66 replied to melyssafaye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you get your psychiatrists to call her for the clearance? Instead of waiting on her which seems like it's impossible do it backwards and get it done for yourself. Maybe just them talking and getting in contact is all you need. Such a shame your dealing with this. Sorry this has happened for you. Very unfair -
38 BMI and only 75 to lose
claddagh66 replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say your definitely making the right decision for yourself. If you ever need to talk I'm here for you. I know it's very scary. I keep trying to look at the end like a year from now and how good we will feel! Hang in there and message me anytime!Hiya, Thanks for your message. I'm 3 days out and at home resting up. The soreness is going away, but I've been very emotional and thinking wtf have I done. I know the beginning is difficult...I just want to eat normal food again. It's also a hassle crushing all my meds, dissolving some and having to inject a blood thinner twice a day to prevent clots. I'm sure it will get better and my attitude will improve lol Oh I'm so glad your on the other side at this point! I'm sure the beginning is extremely difficult. I can't imagine what your feeling. Just know there are a lot of people here who have been thru what your feeling. I will talk with you anytime you need or want to. I still ask myself is this really what I want. Your going thru such a huge change. You also feel like crap but each day you will get stronger and better and before you know it you'll be telling me how amazing you feel and look! Hang in there. ???? -
Hi! Is there anyone else out there that doesn't have a lot of weight to lose? I am only 5' and weigh 197 right now. I've lost some since starting out and was planning to get the sleeve all along until yesterday at my 4th visit and my PA informed me about my scope results. She said I have some reflux (which I had no idea) and I have the start of barrets esophagus so she is stating I will most likely need bypass instead. Anyone else out there in the same or close situation as me?

I wish you luck moebeth! My think is I don't have any symptoms other than what they're saying so I'm really wondering why I can't get the sleeve. Meeting with my doctor in 3 weeks to discuss. Has your doctor turned in all of your things to insurance at this point? Do you have a lot to lose? -
Good luck ladies!
