  1. Hi Phyl,

Sorry took so long to answer your message. I haven't been on for awhile. I'm doing great. It's been 5 months and still haven't needed a fill. How are you doing? Stay in touch and your pic looks great!

  2. Hello everyone and let me start by thanking everyone for their posts. This site is what gave me the courage to opt for the banding. I have read so many posts regarding the liquid stage of the diet but have yet to find anyone who is on a Clear and Full liquid diet like the one my doctor has me on. I do understand all the individual preferences the doctors follow but I am really looking for an ally I guess you could say. I started a Clear & Full Liquid Diet 2 days prior to surgery. I was banded January 9, 2008 at 7:30am and was home by 2:00pm and that included a 45 minute commute! Below is a sample of my diet: Breakfast - 2 oz cream of wheat - 2 oz sugar-free blended yogurt - 2 oz diluted juice - 2 oz skim milk with no sugar-added Carnation Instant Breakfast lunch - 3 oz strained low fat cream Soup - 3 oz sugar-free Gelatin - 2 oz skim milk - 1 scoop Protein powder dinner - 2 oz strained cream soup (does not say low fat) - 2 oz sugar-free blended yogurt - 2 oz sugar-free gelatin - 1 scoop Protein Powder No Caffeine or Carbonated beverages Drink at least 64oz of Fluid per day to prevent dehydration Since the diet consists of 24 oz of fluids above; I must get in 40 oz throughout the day by aiming for 1/2 cup of liquids every 30 minutes during waking hours. Is there anyone out there whose diet is remotely close to mine? I almost forgot, maybe the reason he has me on this diet is because he does not believe in the pureed Stage and skips directly to the Soft food Stage.

    Food Calculations - Gaahh!!

I go to fitday.com as well. There's a large nutritional database of all types of food and a feature that allows you to customize and add your own food and nutritional info. All you have to do is select the food eaten and the portion and it does all the work for you. I also, downloaded a Recipe Calculator program last night that gives you 20 days free trial. It really is a good program. If you want to keep it after the 20 days it's approx. $25. I made a ground turkey and turkey sausage chili with Beans last night and wanted something to not only calculate the recipe but be able to reference the recipe next time I'd try to recreate it because I was making it up as I went along. It also has a large nutritional fact database and customizable food feature. It also, allows you to e-mail the recipe, send to a website and store it. I put in a few of my favorite old recipes to gauge the nutritional facts and also checked what serving size I could eat without tweaking the recipe as well as tweaking the recipe to allow me a larger serving. If interested the website is RecipeCalc.com

    January Surgery Dates

Hi all, Banded January 9, 2008

    60g of protein!?

Fortunately, doctor said it was ok to take the protein drink for the short time I've been on it because aside from the shake I was only eating 100 calories a day. Preferably 2 drinks would have been ideal but I couldn't get a second drink in. Going in to see doctor in morning and they will get me on a diet where I can now get the majority of protein from food. Still not hungry but hopefully all goes well.

How few calories are you taking in post-op?

Hi all, I was banded January 9, 2008 and have officially finished my 2 weeks as I type...YAY! It is so good to be able to talk with those experiencing the same issues. I average about 500 calories a day but that's because my Protein shake is 400 calories and it has definitely saved me from being lightheaded. My doctor started me on clear and full liquids on day one. Also, he does not believe in the puree stage and goes directly to the soft food stage.

    60g of protein!?

hi shortgal, it is 400 calories because each protein scoop is 70 calories and I use 3 scoops but you could use less scoops for sure. Bare in mind I am only consuming around 500 calories or so a day. Doctor doesn't believe in puree stage, so starting soft stage tomorrow and a lot less protein powder. Hope you try it.

    60g of protein!?

Now I am truly confused. I am still on the liquid stage until Wednesday. I am drinking one Protein shake combined with my no sugar added Carnation Instant Breakfast (part of my prescribed menu) in the morning. I am still not hungry since surgery and this shake is my only source of protein. My shake totals 400 calories with the skim milk, instant breakfast, Protein powder and unsweetened cocoa and I am still averaging a little over 500 calories a day. Am I doing something wrong? I feel great now that I drink the Protein Shake, not weak as before I could consume the shake, and I am taking my Vitamins and Calcium supplement. I don't have any problem with bowel movements. I know my nutritrionist says to cut back on protein when I am able to get the protein from foods. Please advise, I know all doctors and diets are not quite equal but interested what you are doing in the clear/full liquid stage. Thanks in advance for any feedback. 60g of protein!?

trish I know exactly what you mean. I was banded January 9, 2008, in fact today is a week! It went so fast. I have been doing the happy dance for 3 days now because I finally figured out a tasty chocolate drink that gives me 67g Protein per 8oz drink. I am so excited that I can't wait to drink it first thing in the morning. I use a Protein powder I purchased from GNC named Any whey by Optimum and it is 17g a scoop. Following is my recipe: 8oz skim fat free milk = 9g 1 pkg of No-Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast (chocolate) = 5g 3 scoops Any Whey = 51g 2 Tbsp Hershey's Unsweetened Cocoa Powder = 2g 3 ice cubes and blend I hope this helps you. For some reason I was like a deer in headlights when it came to protein powder. I can't believe it took me 5 days to figure out to use more than one scoop at a time...sheesh. The drink is my first meal of the day and it really helps. Hope this helps. Banded January 9, 2008 Dr. Ervin Denham Evanston Northwestern Hospitals
  11. Hi Yelsnia nice meeting you. We can dance in the in zone at the same time when we reach our goal woohoo!
  12. Good going Icreyno! Good luck with your doctor's appt and let me know how the pureed stage goes for you tomorrow. Amazing how that sounds delicious LOL.
  13. Hi MamaJava and LDNurse, Nice to meet someone on the same diet and someone banded the same day. I am not hungry at all. I can barely get a total of 5 oz of the diet down. I have been getting the Protein down and living on sugarless popsicles, 2 to 3 a day. I was so lightheaded last night that I figured I was losing too fast (if there is such a thing LOL) so I weighed myself this morning and I was down 12 lbs! The two days I was on clear & full liquids I lost 1.5 lbs. It should slow down now though because I am really forcing myself to eat the whole 8 oz of food per meal. It took be over an hour and I still fell short but getting there. I agree LD, will definitely be worth it. Good luck at your appt. 14. The Protein powder was the one thing I was afraid of believe it or not. I spent hours and hours online reading all the comments. I finally saw an ad for AnyWhey by Optimum. It is actually formulated for cooking so I figured it wouldn't taste bad in hot liquids and guess what...I was right. It is almost tasteless. It has a hint of vanilla and that is it. It is 17g of protein per scoop and I actually drink it in my Water. Has anyone ever tried it? It has truly made my post-op a wonderful experience.:clap2:
  15. I was banded 01/09/2008 at 7:30am and was home before 2pm. I haven't taken a pain pill but just find that I tire easier and nap.

    Best Protein Powder

Thanks all for feedback. Dave can you tell me how much protein in yours? It may change but right now I get full so quickly I can't seem to drink enough to get my protein in. AnyWhey has 17g per scoop; I've thought about putting two scoops in, will try it tomorrow. Thanks in advance
  17. Let me start by stating, I never would have come to the decision of banding if it hadn't been for this wonderful website and all the wonderful stories everyone has shared. I was originally cleared for gastric bypass but decided I owed it to myself to try dieting one more time before permanently altering my body. Thank goodness, that is when I stumbled on this site. I am excited and dumbfounded that I actually was banded January 9, 2008 by Dr. Ervin Denham...so surreal!
