I am 60 years old and so tired of the struggle with my weight since I was 5 years old! I've been on every diet known to man, lost and gained 50-70 lbs many times. I found out late, when I was 40, that I've had PCOS for years and no one diagnosed it until after my 2nd child was born. My blood sugar began creeping up when I was 40 so I began to take better care of my body because it's the only one I have; so I began exercising years ago. But I do love to eat good food, not junk food. You could say I have a hearty appetite! My reason for surgery is I want the next 30+ years to be spent with my adult kids and their kids. When my children were little, I was too heavy to enjoy activities with them. I missed out on a lot and it makes me sad when I think about it. Although my children tell me they had a great childhood (I kept them busy with sports and hobbies that other people could also be involved) So, I must look forward and enjoy what time I have left on this earth. Quality of life is very important to me right now. I do not have Diabetes and my total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL:HDL ratio are all excellent. My main problem is my body is riddled with osteoarthritis and any more weight will make me chair bound. That is NOT going to happen! I began the pre-op process in November 2015 and I am now ready for surgery in 3 weeks. I live in Alaska but will have surgery at SWEDISH in Seattle. I am a self pay so the pre-op process is a lot shorter.
