    trimming the tubing

I am very short, as such I had asked my doctor if he was going to trim the tubing (I wonder if not doing so can increase chances of kinking and bowel strangulation) He said that he would, but then I read the operative report and he did not. Have any of you had your tubing trimmed? Ever hear anything about it?

    Insurance clearly states no

i had the same clause- not only did i have to self pay, but if something goes wrong i will have to pay for that too!

    Low Profile Port

I am jealous! My port sticks out already blatantly through my clothes and i am 2 weeks post op! My doc better not have any trouble with fills!! it might also be the kind of port that is self anchoring as well- they are less likely to flip! - good luck!

    trimming the tubing

no I dont think all doctors do, in my operative report it states that the excess tubing was placed into the abdominal cavity.

Removed after 2 weeks, infection ??

My understanding is that a doctor can only be legally accountable if he did not adhere to the standard of care or give you "informed consent" including all the risks involved with surgery including rejection and infection which I believe are well known. I am sure he had you sign consent. I am self pay too so I feel your pain- I would be devastated in your position, just devastated!! Just reading these posts makes me paranoid about pains that I have. I wish you the best of luck and my heart goes out to you. I dont think NSAIDS would cause rejection- more likely they would cause erosion since they inhibit prostagladins and irritate the gastric mucosa. I hope your doc can help make things right.

    Complications after my first fill

it would be very unusual for your seizure to be from the fill since by definition seizures come from the brain- that is why they did that EEG on you. Some medications can lower your seizure threshold. I wish you luck!
  8. I was just wondering... I have heard different things. can chewable Fiber tabs stretch your pouch?

    Bad first visit

i wish i had been covered- my insurance had an exclusion criteria which means they pay for nothing and I will have to pay out of pocket if God forbid any complications arise I would be happy that things are moving forward! :rolleyes2:
  13. I am 9 days post op and have not yet had a bowel movement? Is it time to take some docusate? How long did you all take till your first BM?

    gross question

I lost some weight on my pre-op diet. I opted for the band because losing weight has been a constant struggle for me since I hit puberty at 9 years old! While a BMI of 35 is not as unhealthy as a higher one, it certainly puts me at greater risk for comorbidites. Not to mention the discrimination (yes i am sensitive) that I hate to endure as a fat girl. One of the nurses at my doctor's office told me I shouldnt get the surgery- but after gaining more than 50 pounds AGAIN after what I thought was successful weight loss (kept it off for 6 years) I really thought I needed this extra tool to help me stay thin for life. Maybe some of you disagree. I was self pay- sadly my insurance company has an exclusion criteria for WLS which scares me should something go wrong! I did have some tylenol with codeine but very little and that was days ago. It is one of the weaker opiates but of course can still decrease GI motility.

    Hiccups

I am one week post-op and I cant stop hiccuping. I am terrified it might slip my band- although to be honest they arent really forceful. I am trying to sip my fluids ever so slowly b/c I did a search on hiccups here and a few mentioned that it was their "soft stop". How dangerous are hiccups? Should I be worried? well too late I am a horrid worrier... any thoughts?
  21. I assume it stands for "dear hubby" or something like that from the context...

    burping?

often when i cant burp i hiccup- then i am scared that i slipped my band!! I take gas x often. if my BF is around he will slap my back which helps! i am trying so hard to baby my band, not swallow any air, etc. but these hiccups can sometimes not be helped- any suggestions?

    For those with BMI 35-40?

when i went to see my bariatric surgeon his nurse said to me "dont get this surgery you are so short and cute!!!" my father who was with me chimed in "and ROUND!" He is in for anything to make his daughter less fat, while my mom, sister, and best friend were all somewhat against it- I think mainly out of concern for me and nothing malicious at all. Well I am now banded and they have no choice but to be supportive! I am not telling anyone at work and it is hard to sneak around only drinking liquids.
