thanks- I read all of the previous posts, they addressed the fact that the band itself can withstand pressure changes, I am more concerned that an air bubble in the fundus could expand with ascent causing a slip- I dont think anyone has addressed that! how do i "bump" my post??

My port was placed on the right just inferior to my ribs- The port often hurts and feels like it is rubbing against my ribs, esp when i take a deep breath or move. Anyone else have this issue?

restrict2008 replied to Lily76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my surgeon if I would have it and he completely blew it off! That scared me since it seems to be such a common theme on here! Many rec gas-x. Mine did go away with time. -
Why no caffeine and no carbonation
restrict2008 replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard different things about caffeine- my surgeon said it would be okay. I can only assume that some rec no caffeine b/c of it's effect on gastric motility. That being said, i did have a skinny latte last night, (at least i got some skim milk that way) Have any of you heard why no caffeine? -

restrict2008 replied to jenniferann6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i didnt get to see mine, was sealed and sent to my surgeon! I agree with the other posters, I doubt it will cause an outright denial, but it cant hurt to get some therapy and get it documented! -

Cover and support belly&band when exercising
restrict2008 replied to katschai's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have only been banded less than a month, but I can already see the need for a supportive garment. Surgical garments look very promising! I did a quick search and found this web site, they have bariatric garments. Often they are crotchless so that you can go to the bathroom without taking everything off. bariatric garments -
I dont know why an MMPI would be administered. Usually psych evals need to evaluate if you understand the risks and benefits, how compliant you are likely to be with follow up directions and care, and how good your support network is should something go wrong. The reason it is required is because unfortunately there are a lot of people that meet criteria from a BMI perspective but are unable/unwilling to comprehend that band is a lifetime commitment with long term changes required. Insurance companies do not want to pay for a surgery likely to fail. That being said, I am self pay and I still had to get a psych eval done. Mine was simple, but he did ask questions like was I picked on a lot as a kid.

I was told that if you swallow it, it can cause an obstruction. I do believe there are a few posts on here to that effect... Gum can block your stoma and does not easily break down- at this point I am too afraid to chew it!

you will not go into ketosis if you have some carbs. i dont know what you can tolerate but whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are good. (complex carbohydrates) I like oatmeal/cream of wheat. I also put milk in bran flakes and let it sit till it is nice and mushy (i am in the pureed phase) the safety of diets that cause ketosis is very controversial. there are sticks you can buy to check your urine for ketones if you want to be sure that ketosis is the etiology of your bad breath.
