Protein Goal/Shopping List
SummerDream replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also liked BariatricPal Cream of Broccoli. I found it a relief to have something that wasn't sweet tasting like everything else I had to "eat". -
Protein Goal/Shopping List
SummerDream replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently 6 wks post op and I only take in about 500-550 calories a day so yes 400 is actually correct especially the first couple of weeks when you are only drinking limited amounts. At first I was only able to drink 1 oz at a time, then I was up to 2 oz by day 3. Right now I can drink 4 oz of my Protein shake. My NUT says to take a sip and than place the cup down for a bit because you still need to take 15-20 min to "eat" your "meal" even if it's just drinking liquid. I use the yogurt to take my meds with. I was originally using Motts organic applesauce but it didn't hide the flavor of my crushed pills. Here is what I ate based on NUT recommendation: Bariatric Advantage Protein Shake - Fave flavors: chocolate & Orange Cream Jello sugar free jello or pudding Dannon Light & Fit - No fruit on the bottom. The regular version is thinner than the greek version. unjury non flavored protein powder Crystal Light -
Emotional Effects of Surgery
SummerDream replied to Angie74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Angie, I went through the same thing you are. It comes and goes. I think I started to feel better when I read on these board that what I was feeling wasn't just me, that I was normal and everything I was feeling was normal. I have had surgery before, but I think this was the most shocking to my body. Hang in there!! -
You are trying to eat solid foods but your stomach is still healing. I didn't try eating some solids until 4 wks post op. At 2 wks post op you should be drinking Protein shakes and eating yogurt (my nutritionist recommends Dannon Fit and Light - the regular yogurt is thinner than the greek version). Stick to that for the next week then you can get soups and puree them in a mini chopper. Make sure you count your protein - this should be your focus and not moving onto solid foods. I tried ground beef at 4 wks and vomited it right back up. I was able to handle ham at 4 wks - pureed of course. I'm 6 wks post op and haven't touched chicken yet although I'll be trying a bit of Turkey today. Good luck!!

Shriner37 is absolutely correct. I have garnered tremendous support even if it was just reading that I wasn't the only one who felt a certain way. When you have your surgery date, you will find others who are having surgery either the same day or the same week. I found it comforting to be in touch with others going through the same healing process and adjustments I was. Feel free to message me.

I'm so happy your doing well! Make sure you don't over due getting back to normal. Your body is still healing and will need rest. -
I had a hiatal hernia repair and that exact same thing happen to me. It took a little while for it to go away and happened one other time but it hasn't happened in a week. What I experience now is the feeling like something is stuck - no chest pain - if I forget and drink too quick, but that's part of having this surgery.

Yeah that gas will take a while to go away. It had gotten so bad after a day and a half that I had them give me the strong pain killer which helped. It started going away after that. Hang in there! -

I'm so glad your doing well!! They automatically had put that patch behind my ear and I never felt nauseous. TIP: The nurse told me make sure if you touch that patch, they you immediately wash your hands because if you don't, and you accidently touch your eye, it will dilate your eye for over a week. I thought that was interesting -
Introducing myself...
SummerDream replied to HappyDance78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Happy! One thing to keep in mind and what might help your husband understand better, is that surgery is just a tool. Mentally you may still want to eat but physically you cant, which is the tool. You will still have to work through any addictions you feel you have. I am 2 wks out of surgery so this is still new but you will find your main focus is trying to get all your Protein and Water in and there just isn't room for anything additional. Thats where I am right now. As for the straw, that does two things: makes you take in air which will fill your small stomach up and makes you drink fast which you physically wont be able to do. It will feel like its stuck at the bottom of your esophagus. The part of your stomach that they remove contains what makes your esophagus relax which is why we have to eat and drink slow. I have actually been learning to knit while I recuperate. Keeps the mind and hands busy Hope that helps a bit. Blessings! -
Im so glad Im not the only one who has fretted about this. Im 2 wks out, have lost 20 lbs (which is amazing) but I have been the same weight for 4 days now. I track everything I take in (I love SparkPeople for tracking) so I guess I will stop weighing myself. One amazing thing is I have a shirt that wouldn't fit me 3 wks ago and now I can not only get my arms in comfortably but my waist fits too. I got my hair done today and Im currently treating myself to a pedicure and a manicure Celebrating success!

February 2016 sleevers?
SummerDream replied to NYGirlxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having the same problem I had my surgery on Tuesday and my chest still hurts a little to breathe deep like the intibation messed me up It took me days until I felt like I could take a deep breath without coughing. I don't know if it was from my asthma (had an asthma attack during the surgery) or the combo of asthma and intubation but it definitely kept me down for a while. My surgery was on the 11th and just the past couple of days my lungs feel normal. I had my post op visit today with my Primary Care doc and she doesn't hear anymore wheezing Did they give you the thing where you suck your breath in to raise the lever inside the tube which exercises your lungs? I found that actually helped. -

Hang in there!!! And feel free to vent away. I can only imagine how you must feel. I will be praying that tomorrow's call goes well!! My surgeon hates having to work with insurance companies because they act like having surgery is something we all decided we'd try BEFORE we tried everything else. *HUGS!* -

I'm doing really good. I can't believe how much weight I've lost already and it's only been a week. I gained 11 pounds after the surgery and have lost that PLUS 14 pounds. I'm on full liquids but use applesauce when I take my crushed medications and vitamins. I'm going to start on thin oatmeal this weekend but March 3rd is when I start on "thin pureed" food and I am really looking forward to a scrambled egg
