I haven't had it yet...but my doctor said it's okay after 6 weeks as long as you let it go flat for at least 5 minutes before drinking. He also said it's easier to sip out of a cup than to drink from a can or straw (reduces on the bubbles you actually take in.)

This recipe would fall under "full mushies" but all of the ingredients were ok'd by my doc. So for all of the sushi lovers --- Sushi Inspired Tuna salad Ingredients: 1 (6 ounce) can solid white tuna packed in Water, drained 3 -4 tablespoon lite mayonnaise 1 tablespoon wasabi paste, or to taste 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root 1 tablespoon minced green onion Directions: In a medium bowl, mix together the tuna, mayonnaise, wasabi paste, ginger and green onion. Serve on lettuce leaves or eat by itself.

I can't believe I'm doing this...Here is a picture of me about 8 months ago in Jamaica. I weigh exactly the same now as I did then. It's a really bad picture (it was really hot there) but it's the only half body shot I could find. I just won't let people take full body shots of me. That's me towards the bottom holding the rum punch and smoking a cigarette (it was Jamaica!!!)

Hospital Experience(s)
Kalia Jade replied to cierra'sgrandma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stayed over night. I didn't feel very well after surgery and wish they had given me more pain meds (just so I could get some rest.) But I'm glad I stayed, my drive home was 3 1/2 hours so that wouldn't have been fun. Unfortunately my room was right by the helicopter pad and of course I heard it at about 3 a.m. Oh well all in all it wasn't too bad. -
I've never heard of either of those meds (sorry I can't help you there.) My gyno put me on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, it's the only thing that finally got my acne under control. Hopefully losing the weight with the help of the lap band, I will become fertile again!

I was self pay and got 18 months of fills included.
-
I only had to wait 24 hours as well, that first shower was wonderful! Of course I was a little sore...and don't drop the soap (lol) cause there is no way you will be able to pick it up! Good luck on your surgery :wink2:
-
Sorry if I sound ignorant...but what is Barium? I haven't heard anything about it, I get my first fill on 2/27 I didn't think my doctor had us swallow anything before the fill.

Oh my goodness...I forgot about half of these shows that I used to watch. Bobby's World, Talespin, Muppet Babies, Are you afraid of the dark, hey dude, clarissa explains it all, all that. That was a crazy flash back! Thanks :biggrin2:

That show cracks me up! I did however, like the first season better than this season. I don't like how it's just one clique vs. the other. Some of those girls are just plain nasty (spitting in peoples food, peeing in the sink, wiping their asses with the kitchen sponge.) Not only is that disgusting, it could seriously make someone sick! Although....it does make for interesting TV!

Does this sound strange to you??
Kalia Jade replied to Bandme08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor didn't have me on any special diet before surgery either, but I did choose to try and lose a few pounds on my own. However I did not do liquids, just tried to make better food choices. The 2 week post-op liquid diet is hard enough!!! I see your age at 29, I am 24...the nurses decided not to do the chest x-ray or an EKG on me because of my age and other than being obese I was pretty healthy. I might have felt safer if they had, but they are experienced and I trusted their judgement. Everything turned out okay! So I guess what I'm saying is it doesn't seem odd to me. They might be basing it on your age, health, and past medical history. But if you don't feel safe, speak up! -
I just made an amazing smoothie that tastes like a dessert! I think it had a total of 50 calories: 4 frozen strawberries (since fresh ones are out of season, plus it gives the icy effect without watering it down) 2 peach slices (canned peach slices in syrup sweetned with Splenda.) add a dash of juices from the peaches, and 1-2 packets of Splenda. Blend until smooth. Yummy I am not able to eat very much right now, so you could use more strawberries / peaches. It can be eaten with a spoon as a cold Soup or add Protein powder and make it a smoothie!!!

When did you really start losing weight
Kalia Jade replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 7 days out from surgery and have lost 14 pounds (from my weight on surgery day.) Although I know the weight loss is going to slow down or even gain a little, I am extremely excited right now! -
My doctor knew I was a smoker before surgery, I got the speech "smoking isn't good for you in alot of ways. Are you planning on quitting?" I told him I can only focus on so many things at one time, and right now weight loss was my goal. So I smoked all the way up until I walked into the hospital for my surgery. Then I lit up as soon as I got to the car afterwards to go home (that cigarette tasted horrible, I think it had something to do with the anesthisia.) I haven't had any problems with healing.

"Popping" Sensation In Stomach
Kalia Jade replied to Kalia Jade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called the doctor yesterday...I found out it's just gas. Wow, I've definitely never had gas that felt like THAT before! It started to subside yesterday afternoon and haven't really felt it at all today. Just thought I'd give an update incase anyone else has the same feeling. -
I am 3 days post-op and having a "popping" sensation in my stomach whenever I stand up from a sitting position or try to sit down. Is this normal? Did anyone else experience it? And does it last forever, or will it go away? Thanks!

I got banded Jan 17th

It sounds like you haven't had the surgery yet, am I right? Is there any other doctor you could go to? It might require a little bit of traveling, but you always want the pros to outweigh the cons. My doctor is about 3.5 hours away from me. The drive isn't a whole lot of fun, but it is kind of a mini vacation of sorts. Plus I really like the doctor and his staff. Just a thought. Good luck!

I got light headed and somewhat nauseous about the first 2 days. Especially when I stood up fast or was up too long. It's getting better now. I'm off the pain meds now, so that would be my guess as to what is causing this problem. As far as the blood pressure meds, I have no idea. I hope I was able to help a little.

What to do with your old clothes?
Kalia Jade replied to taismommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Safety concerns would be the only reason I would think it hasn't been done yet. I heard someone say that they kept one outfit from their heaviest weight, and when they hit a plateau they just put it on. Being able to see how far they had come even if it didn't show on the scale, was encouraging. I thought this was a very clever idea. -
That is great advice! I am definitely going to do this when I hit my first plateau. Thank you!

I'm glad to hear everybody's surgery went well! I didn't have that many problems with gas, just a generally uncomfortable feeling. I still feel kinda icky. I think the thing that bothers me the most is a "pulling" sensation in my stomach (not the port) when I am walking. When I bend forward too far or go to sit down or stand up sometimes it will make a "popping" feeling, like the stitches are comming undone. Does anyone else have this? The only thing I've found to relieve it is to support my stomach from underneath with my hands when walking, sitting, or standing. Does anyone know if this is normal, and how long it will last? Thanks!

"Popping" Sensation In Stomach
Kalia Jade replied to Kalia Jade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the pulling sensation too. Does that go away after a while? The "popping" feels like my stitches are comming undone on the inside. I'm pretty sure they're not, but it doesn't feel very nice. It also happens if I lean over too far forward, like trying to sit on the toilet or washing my hands. -
I am getting banded on the 17th as well! Congratulations to all of you for being able to experience this new adventure! I'm sure you guys are just as nervous and excited as I am. I know I'm just ready to start the rest of my life, I'm ready for the challenges and changes. But I gotta be honest this waiting is about to kill me! It's less than 2 days...but I'm ready to get it over with already! Good luck to everyone else!!!
