This is what I was going to say. I haven't been stuck yet...thankfully, but I did almost blackout twice while getting my first fill as well as threw up about 8 times. They had a hard time trying to find the right fill level so I had to drink a lot of Water as they added and backed off of the saline. After all of this was over he said that all of the water had overstimulated my vagus nerve and made me blackout / nauseated / vommit. But I would definitely ask your doctor, if you can't remember to ask while you're there...you could always put a call in. Good luck!

I had my first fill 1 week ago, after day 5 I felt a little less restriction but I have another appointment next week. If it were me I would wait it out a few days to see if things straighten out, then call the doc if it doesn't seem any better. Good luck!

Can we take Milk of Magnesia?
Kalia Jade replied to Becca920's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor actually recommended it after surgery to help with the gas and bloating, it worked miracles. So it's bandster friendly -- however when in doubt call the doc. -
Swimming after surgery???
Kalia Jade replied to pearlygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said 3-4 weeks...but at my 2 week post-op check up he said that I was cleared to take baths and get in the pool (YAY, I love swimming!) I guess I'm a fast healer. Definitely check with him/her though an infection would not be a good thing! -
I didn't read all 3 pages of posts so I hope I'm not repeating...If you want something sporty Speedo or TYR has lots of choices --the only problem is the sizing system is different. If you want something a little more stylish I think Old Navy has some really cute one piece swim suits.

My doc says I can drink diet sodas as long as they don't cause too much discomfort (I haven't had a problem with them yet.) He just recommends to pour it over ice and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking. So far so good. Of course he doesn't want me drinking regular sodas, but I have found some diet ones that I like alot...Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet A&W Root Beer, and Diet Sprite (all caffeine free.)

I couldn't lay on my side or stomach for a month after surgery...but now I can comfortably. Sounds normal to me, but if you're worried that something is wrong it wouldn't hurt to give your doctor a call.

When you get stuck -- How long after you swallow something do you feel the actual pain in your chest? I've heard a lot of people say that as soon as they swallow they know something is going to get stuck, but I haven't heard how long it takes before the pain kicks in.

I had my first fill yesterday as well...it was a nightmare. They told me that they would probably start between 3-5cc. I ended up with only 1cc. They had no problem getting into the port and I could feel the saline go in (weird sensation.) When they had me sit up to drink water to find the "right fill" I got nauseous, so I had to lay down. About 2 minutes later we tried again...same thing. I figured the 3rd time would be a charm...I started sipping the water again, then all of a sudden threw up Everywhere! By the time it was all done, I had thrown up about 8 times. The doc told me that the vegas nerve was overstimulated and made me sick. They said that out of their 1,500 patients I was the first to ever have a reaction like that (lucky me!!!) I'm feeling fine now and go back in 2 weeks for round 2 LOL.

Not a whole lot to do in Lowell, but fortunately I'm only about 5 minutes from the Promenade in Rogers! I used to love Dickson St. I used to be a regular at the night clubs, not so much anymore, only on special occasions. I enjoy going to FAC and swimming...I haven't really had the motivation to do that in a while so I'm having fun with it again. I'm also a movie buff, we own a little over 500 DVD's. I was going to school at NWACC for a while but taking a break right now. BTW...enjoy the move from your apartment into the office. That should be interesting -- Lol. Where were you banded, or are you banded yet?

I lived in Fayetteville for about 18 years, so I was pretty much raised there. Now I live in a little town just outside of Springdale (Lowell.) It's nice though, a short drive to anywhere in NWA I need to go. Arkansas will always be home to me, lol. What have you found to be your favorite thing to do up here? It's nice to find someone about my age in the same area on here.

How many calories do you eat a day?
Kalia Jade replied to Lillyanne_M's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
600 - 800 cal per day. I am just now finding it easy to get in 800 a day. Up until a week ago I was averaging 300 - 400 a day (on liquids and mushies.) I just couldn't seem to get enough in, and got full really quickly. I get my first fill on 2/27. -
I read this comment from someone else on this site and thought it was clever....and kinda funny. She was at a wedding reception I think, she just carried around someone ELSES half eaten plate of food and no one was the wiser. Just don't get tempted and try to eat any of it, maybe sabatoge it with a ton of salt or something.

About 1 1/2 weeks. I am definitely an odd case but I had my seminar on Jan. 8, 2008 and surgery on Jan. 17, 2008. BUT....my insurance wouldn't cover the surgery, so I was self-pay which moved things along quicker. I also worked on getting in with my GP the day after the seminar to do my blood work and get my medical records faxed over to the surgeon. So I think it was my persistance and not having to deal with insurance that made my process so fast. Just wanted to give you some hope that it doesn't ALWAYS take months. Although, it is likely.

medicine/pill question
Kalia Jade replied to zetajenn5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pretty sure Benadryl is a Bandster safe medicine, as long as it's not on your Docs list of no-no's. I wouldn't think the size would be a problem -- I take about 6 pills a day, most of them are about 2x the size of a Benadryl. When in doubt, call the Dr. -
So far I have lost 34 pounds, about to start solids. I go in for my first fill on 2/27. I can't seem to get enough calories in still, I'm eating about 300-400 per day. This should change when I start on solids. Everyone's body works differently.

So how do you like it on the Arkansas side? I live about 15 minutes from Fayetteville, crazy.

One of Dr. Wellborn's websites: The Wellborn Clinic :: Home and one more: St. Vincent Weight Loss Center Good luck with your move, and finding your new fill doctor! I hope you like Little Rock! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
-
I see Dr. Wellborn, both he and his staff are wonderful! 4 of his staff have had the lapband themselves, which makes it comforting to know that they have walked in your shoes. They are also very easy to contact, I almost always talk to a person when I call their office. If I have to leave a message I get a call back within an hour or 2. I don't know anything about the other Docs in the Little Rock area, but I would definitely recommend Dr. Wellborn.

What to eat after a fill and for how long
Kalia Jade replied to caligal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor also said 2 days liquids (day 1 clear, day 2 full) then 2 days mushies, on day 5 solids. If when I graduate to the next stage it doesn't stay down...I have to start the process over again. I would definitely ask your doctor what he or she reccommends. -

Why no caffeine and no carbonation
Kalia Jade replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says that I can have carbonated beverages (diet of course.) He reccommends pouring over ice and letting sit for 5-10 minutes so it goes a little flat first. He does say that not all people handle them well, but that most people don't have a problem. I haven't introduced sodas yet, but I will probably give them a try within the next week or so. Just goes to show how every doctor is different. It's important to follow your docs rules though. -
going to cabo- what if I drink too much?
Kalia Jade replied to new_me_2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're not supposed to drink with the band (it's liquid calories, and ALOT of them.) There are 97 calories in a 1.5 oz shot of tequila source: calorieking.com. However...you should be allowed to treat yourself while in Mexico, just don't over do it. Know your limit. As soon as you start to feel the effects of the alcohol stop drinking. You don't want to get sick and throw up, potentially damaging your band. This is just my humble opinion. -
Don't worry about being a cry baby...this is a support group, a forum where you can come and talk about your problems without the worry of being judged. Honestly sometimes we need to cry and let out some of the pent up frustration and problems out. I wish you the best at your job, and hope that things begin to turn around for you. As far as the weight loss 35 pounds is a substantial loss, that is great...and you are not a failure. You are never a failure until you have given up. Have you given up on yourself yet? I didn't think so.....keep on truckin', and know that all of us here and LBT are here for you!

I guess it depends on your number of fills, restriction level, exercise, and eating habits. But I would say that you're doing just fine. People lose at different rates. Given your numbers (31 pounds in 6 months) That's approximately 5 pounds per month which is just over 1 pound per week. The recommended healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. So I would say you're doing fine. When in doubt....ask your doctor, and keep your head up
