2 days postop... How did you feel?
Jenkins replied to BrightEyes42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am day 5 and feeling better and better each day. Day 3 was the turning point for me, I was due to be discharged at 2pm that day and when I woke up at 7am I just thought it would never happen, I felt so bad, the idea of walking out of the hospital seemed like an impossibility but within a few hours I just felt so much better. I am definitely questioning my decision but I know it is part of the process - just looking forward to getting past the liquid diet! -
That's a pity!!

Hi all, Would love your advice (or your complete lists) for what to bring with me to the hospital and what stuff to buy in advance so I have when I return! Perhaps things that I wouldn't have considered or aren't obvious! One thing I have picked up on from reading peoples stories is about having dry lips from dehydration so I have added lip moisturizer to my list! Would love more insights like this! Thanks, J

Anyone getting sleeved in January?
Jenkins replied to kris10or's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Sarine, For some reason, it is comforting to know someone else has the same surgery date as me! Also, glad to hear you have no preop diet, seems like the majority of people do! J -
haaaaaaa! That made me properly laugh out loud!!
-
Hi Michael, would you not consider Belgium? I am from Europe and am getting the sleeve done for 6.5k in Brussels! Let me know if you want more information!

Anyone getting sleeved in January?
Jenkins replied to kris10or's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My date is 27th! I am not required to do a pre-op diet but decided to do it anyway to be extra prepared. I only lasted a few days on it which is worrying. I guess it's hard to stick to something when you know you don't really have to do it! But still doesn't bode well for the future, hope I can stick to the plan! -
Definitely give them away! I can't wait until I am in a position to gut my wardrobe!

Congrats! I hope to be writing my own post like this one day!

The Good & the Bad 7 day Post-Op
Jenkins replied to TodayItEnds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for this post. Being 10 days preop, my appetite for information is insatiable! Like you I am currently very active so I am delighted to hear you were able to get back into your old routine so quickly! Congrats! I look forward to your future posts!! p.s . I am blocking out that horrific anaesthesia story! -
Hey McCarthy, Would love to hear how you got on with your weightlifting after surgery? I have also been seriously lifting for over the past year, hitting some decent numbers. I think the general advice is to wait at least 6 weeks before going back lifting - what approach did you take? Did you roll back the numbers right to the bar & work up? how slow or fast was it? What restricts you, is it purely fatigue? I am not being open about my surgery so not sure how I am going to explain my rapidly decreasing numbers! Going from a 100kg squat to 20kg!

I have also have not been given a preop diet, although I am going to try & follow the low carb, high Protein diet most people do. My question is what are the restrictions the day before the surgery? Do most people go liquid only?

I have Crohn's and was told the Sleeve was my only option so I guess it would be the same for you with UC! -
Are PreOp Jitters? - Words of Encouragement Required Please!
Jenkins posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all, My surgery is scheduled for later this month & I have to say I am really having second thoughts. I never expected I would be like this as when I booked the surgery in early November I was so excited and literally couldn't wait for the day to arrive. In reality, I know I will go ahead with it but I really want to regain that excitement & confidence I had about it before. Now, I feel unsure and emotional...... not a good combination Is this last minute second guessing normal? How can I snap myself out of it? Would really appreciate if people could share their own experiences! Thanks! J -

Wow, thanks so much for all the responses! It is exactly what I needed Such a relief to hear that these feelings are normal. It always sticks in my mind that everyone here says they have no regret, I can't wait to be one of those people! Roll on the 27th! -
**Milestone** I can finally cross my legs!
Jenkins replied to cal2okl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow congrats! That will be a massive milestone for me...Can't wait! -
I am really worried about hair loss too, I have really thin hair as it is. I have bought the entire Nioxin kit (number 4) & plan to start using it straight away after surgery in addition to Viviscal (a hair supplement) perhaps it can slow down the loss but I guess I won't know for months if it works.

January or February 2016 Sleevers?
Jenkins replied to songsmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is 27th January. A lot of mixed emotions going on right now! Is everyone going to be doing a preop diet? I have some loose guidelines but doesn't seem to be anything hardcore! From reading the forums it appears some surgeons don't even require preop diets. -
Wish I hadn't Told Some...
Jenkins replied to WalkOnWaking's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is really sad, I can only imaging how upsetting it was to receive the text. I think everything will work out ok though and she will eventually apologise. It is extremely unfair of her to react like that. I wouldn't give up on the friendship, it is hard to find good friends as we get older. I am only telling 2 people in my life and this doesn't include my best friend. I know she wouldn't approve of me having the surgery and I fear that if she ever finds out she is have a similar reaction and probably be really angry that I never told her. -
I am booked in with DeBruyne in January. I had a face to face with Frederik from his team and I was pretty happy with the answers to my questions. He told me he has done over 2000 sleeves I think. I will let you know how it goes!
