    Food Cravings

You are having Head Hunger. It's terrible at first, but it will pass. Pizza ads on TV were the worst for me, but I was full on a small amount of protein shakes. It takes time to learn the new feelings and signals your body is sending you. Slow and easy does it. don't push your schedule. It is based on patient, nutritionist and doctors experience. The time does pass and you will progress to new foods. Hang in there, it's worth it!

    So tired

You've just had major surgery. You are on clear liquids, maybe 2 ounces at a time, right? Your body is still recovering. It needs to rest to heal. Take more time off if you can. Your body may force you to take more time if you try to push it.
  3. I really like yogurt, and shopped the baby food aisle. Lots of variety there.

    Ambien, insomnia, sleep eating

Don't be afraid. Take it as it comes. It is a slow process, healing and learning the new way of living and eating. You sound prepared. I, too, need Ambien for chronic insomnia, and occasionally have sleep eating. I'm 17 months post-op, and have had a few episodes, but not done anything extreme. Something about Ambien makes some of us "hungry". Have safe foods in your kitchen. Try to have those tempters gone. I find that taking less than a whole dose keeps the sleep-eating at bay most of the time. For me, it is a fine balance between enough med to sleep, and not so much to cause me to eat. I keep protein bars bedside. Early on, you might want to keep a protein shake ready in the fridge. Sometimes having protein before bed helps, me, too. Yogurt, cheese sticks, peanut butter, chicken (later as you can eat it). You will find what you like. Food still tastes good, so meals are enjoyable - just eat the right size and follow your plan. The plan is for a good reason, you will have foods added regularly, based on what the experts have learned by studying those who have gone before us. Use your nutritionist and team, they are there for you. Have a great journey. It gets better every day. I had my surgery 12/31/16, at age 70. Lost almost 1/3 of my body weight, over 60 pounds! I have a few pounds to get to my goal weight, but I'm so much healthier and fitter than before, I'm happy.

    Sugar

Consider it a lesson learned. We have all had those times. It helps us understand what we can and can't eat, and why the food plan is set up the way it is. I have overdone it, and am sorry after. Then I'm more dedicated to following the plan. We are human, and occasionally need a reminder why we have committed to this new life. We can do it! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Happy new year sleeve

You had major surgery 3 days ago! You are sore and swollen from the surgery. Learn to Listen to the signals your body is telling you. Lots of adjustments and new signals to learn from. Your brain has to adjust to all the body changes. Try to pay attention to the new signals, it will get better over time. Do your best every day, don't push if you are uncomfortable. That can cause a slight setback. You will learn what your body is telling you. Easy does it. Your food plan is based on where you are post op - healing and what you can tolerate as you heal. Dont push ahead too. fast. Pause of you need to. It all comes with time, attention, and persistence. Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. So glad I did it, at age 70! HW 245 SW 223 Cw 168 GW 150 or 135 5'2". Great decision for me! Of most meds! No more back pain! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App
  8. I also like the Lipton diet teas. I loved the fizz in drinks, but gave it up cold turkey pre op. Had a sip the other day and it made me nauseous and it hurt. Won't do that again! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App
  9. My nutritionist said all liquids count toward daily intake especially in the first few months when it is hard to get the volume in. So milk, Soup, shakes, tea all counted. I use a variety of Water flavor enhancers, and I do like water, but it is still a challenge to drink all the water, even after a year. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Food Funeral

There is plenty of food variety available after you heal. Lots of Bariatric recipes and adaptations on this site and on the internet. I ate my favorite foods before surgery to say goodbye. Many are no longer appealing to me now. Remember this is a process and a tool. We learn new ways of doing things to succeed. There is so much great in the future for us! I'm approaching my one year surgiversary, and am so happy! I'm not done losing, but I'm so much happier now. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Thyroid cancer and sleeve

Biopsy was negative, so good news! I do have a node the size of a gumball, which Dr will monitor. Are thyroid issues common after wls or is it just my age (71)? Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Thyroid cancer and sleeve

I just had a thyroid biopsy last week and get the results on Wed. Was sleeved 12/31/15. The radiologist thought maybe my weight loss made it easier for the endo to feel the enlargement. Blood tests indicated changes a few months before sleeve. I'm thinking this might be why I've stalled. Time will tell. One day at a time. I want to lose more weight. What Ive lost has me way down on my meds and I'm thrilled, but I have some more to go. Not ready to be done yet. It seems it's always something when you get to be 71. So glad I had the sleeve, even at 70! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Every evening is difficult

I had problems with nausea for a while post op. Call your surgeon right away. They can prescribe something for you to help. I had mine meds delivered a few hours after I called the doc. It was a tremendous help! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

How have your taste buds changed?

I'm 9 months post op and could eat just about anything, but I don't want many of the things I used to eat. For me things taste more - sweet, salty, spicy. I'm very selective about what I put in my precious stomach space. It took me a little longer to progress through the food levels. Take it easy, give yourself time to heal, the real food will come soon enough. I had my surgery at 70 and am so glad I did! Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App
  15. Less input means less output. Give it time. No need to obsess about it. All will come out in the end. I add Benefiber to my Water to help keep things more regular. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App
