Hi. I'm almost 4 weeks post op. I posted a few weeks ago saying that I felt no restriction when I drank and was reassured that once I started real food, that would change. Well, I've just started chicken, eggs etc and still feel nothing. I don't know when to stop eating. I am always hungry. I've lost 12lbs in 4 weeks. What am I doing wrong?!? I feel like the sleeve just isn't working. Any advice please??

Hi. I'm the original poster. 5 1/2 months out now and still have very little restriction. Saying that though, I am losing weight, albeit very slowly. I make sure that I always eat my protein first, drink plenty of water and make healthy food choices. I've learned that this process is very different for everyone and not to compsre

The first week was 2 shakes a day plus a lean dinner (chicken/fish,veggies) and a piece of fruit. Week 2 was 3 shakes only. -

I lost 14lbs on my 2 week pre op diet. -
He made it seem like it was just something that I could deal with and didn't seem concerned. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and have had time to think about what he told me. I'm going to make another appointment with him. I feel like he was just dismissing the issue.

Hi there. I'm 3 months out and posted here after surgery stating that I felt no restriction. Well, here I am, 37lbs lighter but still feeling little restriction. I can easily eat way more than I should be able to and have to be really careful. I mentioned this to my surgeon and he said that I probably have less sensitivity in the opening to my stomach which allows more food in. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it themselves. Is it fixable?
-
Thanks for the advice. I have followed the plan exactly as I should have. My surgeon used a 40 bougie as he does with all his patients. Two of my friends had surgery with him and have no issues with restriction. He said the opening to my stomach is less sensitive than is typical so therefore I'm not getting the same feeling of restriction. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and whether it can be fixed. Meanwhile, I think I will try the pre op diet again. That's when I had the most weight loss.

I try and stay around 1000 cals a day, 80g of protein. I cut out bread, rice and pasta. I track using My Fitness Pal. I could eat well over a cup of food at a time if I let myself.

I'm so happy that I found this thread. I was sleeved on 10/26/15. SW 231, CW 193. I'm 5'8". I feel like I should have lost more but have bigger issues in that I have hardly any restriction. I can eat way more than I should be able to. I've put on 3lbs in the last week. It's a constant struggle. My surgeon says the opening to my stomach probably has less sensitivity than other people experience and that I am in the minority. -
Most surgeons require that you stop taking the pill a week or so before surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots.

Weight loss on track but I eat a LOT
suemag66 replied to itstimealready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's different for everyone. I'm the same as the original poster. We just don't feel any restriction. I don't force myself to eat a lot but I don't have any cues from my sleeve telling me to stop. -

I was sleeved on 10/26 and feel like I can eat more than everyone else too Same as you; 2 eggs no problem. I worry that I will over eat though so measure everything and fill up on water when I'm hungry. -
So, I had my appointment yesterday. I asked about my hunger and the nurse says it's probably my hormones?! I'm pre menopausal and she suggests I see my Gyno as HRT might help. As for the restriction, she said everyone is different. They use the same size Bougie, a 40, on all their patients. Seeing as I am losing weight, they are not overly concerned. I just have to measure all my portions very carefully so as to not overeat. She thinks, once I get my hormones sorted out, my hunger will subside, I also just did the Cottage Cheese Test. I set my timer for 5 minutes and ate fairly quickly. According to the test, my sleeve can hold a cup of food.

Hi Linzlou2000. Thanks for the support. I'm glad I'm not alone. Has your MD given you any answers? I just want to understand why we feel no restriction. I know it's not mental. I'm losing weight but feel like we'll have to work harder than others whose sleeves tell them when to stop eating.
-
See, that's what I don't understand. What purpose does the sleeve serve if you can eat everything with no restriction?!! Are you always hungry too?
-
I think I'm going to have to count that bag of jerky as dinner!
-
That's what I'm like @Rhea540. Sleeved 10/26. Just ate a whole bag of jerky with no problem at all. I wish I could just take one or two bites of something and stop but it's not like that for me. I'm worried that I'll overeat and not lose weight.

Lol!

I'm going to try it.

I'm going to try it.

My surgeon said he uses the same size bougie for every patient, regardless of size. I was 230 when sleeved.
-
Thanks. Also, the nurse at my weight loss clinic said that that was probably not the cause of my hunger and I have an appt with the dietician to see if we can come up with a solution.
-
Good advice. Thanks. I will look in to it.
-
All I drink is water and one protein shake a day and my food is all natural. Thanks for the thought though.

And I'll try the Prilosec. Thanks for the advice.
