Anyone get their surgery covered through a obamacare insurance?
ckrbaird replied to mswyatt1967's topic in Insurance & Financing
This is not necessarily true. I have coverage that has nothing at all to do with obamacare. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App Common misconception... Obamacare {The Affordable Care Act} is the law that regulates healthcare and the insurance industry, it doesn't matter what plan anyone has with who - they are all under the law. Obamacare isn't a plan, it's a law... Everyone in this country who has any healthcare plan at all has Obamacare. Do you mean state insurance? Did you purchase a plan through the marketplace? If so, with who? Do you have state (which state?) insurance like Medicaid? There are literally hundreds of different plans through so many different programs/companies that it's not possible to answer your question with out more information... -
I have Cigna Open Access Plus also. Some of your testing will be determined by Cigna and some by your surgeon based on your current health and what their standards are. I had an upper endoscopy, pH/manometry test, upper GI barium swallow, blood work, social worker consult, nutrition consult, sleep study, and 3 month provider supervised diet. What was your "Yep. I'm getting WLS." moment?
ckrbaird replied to GranadoM74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A year ago my family went to Disneyland, agree hours in the parks each day struggling to keep up with my boys I ended each night in so much pain. I just want to be healthy enough to be active and keep up with my family. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App -

I'm definitely confused about this 'between 25 - 30 days' thing... I've spoken to Cigna 3x so far and have never been told this and I did not see it in the coverage policy either. I'm scared now because I know I've gone over 30 days between appointments because that's the only way my work and doctor schedule will work. My next (last) appointment is 32 days after... I don't think a single one has been between 25 - 30 days! Can someone show where this is stated...?

Thank you Tobeornottobe! This is very helpful and congratulations to you on your upcoming surgery! Seems like a funny thing to be congratulating someone on but I know I will be so excited when the time comes!

I've just started my Weight Watchers diet supervised by my PCP. I know that every plan is different but I'm wondering what experiences people have had with CIGNA; I have a few questions: We are changing our insurance carrier and my CIGNA coverage doesn't actually begin until Jan. 1; the plan requires A 3 month supervised diet, will I have to start over on January 1? I will if I need to but hoping it counts now since the policy is a 3 month diet within a 12 month period. Do I need to submit anything to begin with so they know my plans or do I just have my PCP and surgeon submit everything when I'm done and ready for surgery? What do I need to submit of my diet? Do they want every day of documentation as proof? Will they just take my PCP records of visits, weight, program, & exercise? Thanks for your help! ????
