Dr. Gonzalez Support Thread
CaliforniaNurse replied to Newblew's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
We can get a lot of calories from drinking beer, wine, milkshakes, juice, and many other things. Once in a while is OK but if you are drinking these things daily then you are getting many more calories. I wish you the best in trying to figure this out. Eating is better for lapband patients then drinking anything. Get enough protein. It helps. -

I do feel good. If you are not losing weight there are only a couple things it can be. First, are you putting exercise or walking into your daily routine? Using up the calories we eat is important. Second, I am amazed how little food you need to eat in order to live. Grazing is no good also. Small amount of food a few times a day is fine, as long as you make sure your eat your protein. I start each day with a protein drink with about 20 grams of protein. I use Unjury from the internet. The vanilla and chocolate taste good. You may think it is pricy, but we all paid a good price for the surgeries. It is worth the price. I was a size 16-18 and now I am a size 6/8. It really makes a difference. Good luck to everyone who is struggling with their weight, I will always struggle but the difference is now I have the Lap Band as a tool to use. Cindy -

Congratulations. I hope your experience with the band is great. I have had mine for 10 months and have lost 55 pounds. It is quite a journey. Make sure you eat your protein first before other things. It is important. good luck! I presently weigh 155. -
New Bander on 6-18. Ready to Rock 'n Roll
CaliforniaNurse replied to FinsToLeft's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can look back over the banding experience and it has been very worth while. You are just starting. . . Keep in mind we didnt put the weight on overnight and it doesnt come off overnight. The band is the greatest tool I have ever had to lose weight. Diets have never worked for me. I always just put on more weight in the end. Today, I eat a small portion and I am full. I would like to eat more because it looks so good, but I do not dare. If I do I will become sick and vomit. You can get real tired of vomiting fast. The pounds just start melting off. I feel great and am starting to look good also. Welcome to this journey....it is wonderful. -
Trouble eating while seated,,,,

Congradulations on being 2 years out! I too cannot eat sitting down since my last fill 3 weeks ago. When I am standing or walking around it is much better. I just thought that my band is a little tight. Did this just start or has there been a change in your condition? -
I am going to be honest ....

thanks for posting. I needed to read this today and realize that others are not perfect, it is not only me. i want to know how your doctor appointment went? I have a new doctor that I have seen only twice, but he is upset with me because I have not started exercising yet. I know that I will start before I go back and see him in May. I am afraid he will not see me if I tell him that I have not started exercising. Just changing the way you eat is a big shocker to our systems and I feel tired and out of energy. anyone experience that? -

Omnipaque is a contrast medium which is very sticky and tends to clog tubes up.. What kind of doctor is putting contrast into a port? I understand if you have a leak it will show up by leaking contrast out of your port, but I think the contrast will gunk up your band. Hope this is helpful. I work in radiology and have a lot of experience with Omnipaque.

I was banded in Mexico and I am looking for a fill site closer to home. Has anyone used Fill Center USA in Los Angeles? and how was your experience at this center? Thanks

What is a PB? Tell me EVERYTHING!
CaliforniaNurse replied to saran's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually it is not really that bad. There is no stomach acid in it so it is just like chewed food. This happens to me sometimes when I forget to chew well or forget and drink water with my meal. You sort of burp the food up and usually just excuse yourself to the bathroom and spit it in the toilet. You also feel alot better after. -

I found this site and it helped answer some of my questions. I have a APS band that starts with 3ml of Fluid in it and then has 10ml on top of that, I think. They say the 3ml you don't really count, so that right now I have 1/2 ml in my band. No wonder I can eat anything.:laugh: The LAP-BAND AP™ System: The Platform Advances | Bariatric Times -

I am feeling a little depressed about my weight because I need to go for my second fill and I can eat anything if I chew it enough. I have been losing and gaining the same 5 pounds. I went with my parents to Arby's roast beef and have a large, yes I said large, roast beef sandwich. Everyone just watched me eat the whole thing. My husband said "did you just eat that whole sandwich?" Yes, and then ate 2 chocolate chip Cookies on top of it. Sort of out of control wouldn't you say. I love to eat and I know it. I read that during the first year it is not uncommond to have 10 fills. This was from the company of the lap band. Dr. Gonzalez gives us good fills so that we don't have to have so many. But it is not reasonable for me to expect much weight loss after only one fill. I want everything now, it is hard to wait -

Glad to see you are making progress with the BP, my doctor cut mine in half, but if I don't get a fill soon he may change his mind. We all love to eat and we eat more then we need. The band helps us to remember not to overeat. I have been eating quite a bit lately because I need a fill. Everything has been going down quite nicely with a little chewing and I am worried about this. The good news is that I need to go for a second fill and then the band will help me not to overeat. -

I can tell you what I paid if you like. I paid $7500 for the new innamed lap band. This included the sugery, doctor, anesthesiologist, pre-op labs, cardiologist evaluation, dietitian evaluation, overnight stay at the surgical center ( which was a very nice place, it overlooked the golf course), all medications (except antibiotic for home), and the best was all fills by Dr. Gonzalez that I need. It was really a good experience for me and I think I am a good judge because i am in the business. Hope this helps, let me know any other questions. -

Judy, there isn't enough fluid in the band to cause swelling in the abdomen, so I don't think leakage from the band is plausible. What I an trying to say is that all 10ml of fluid could leak out and you would not notice it. Love cindy -
Banded on 1/18--feeling dizzy??
CaliforniaNurse replied to alldunn33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dizziness can be caused by dehydration which can make your blood pressure drop, which means not enough fluids in a day or too much medication. You should contact your doctor because even at this early stage you still have loss a significant amount of weight which could result in a need for adjustment to any medication you are taking. Also, your bariatric surgeon should know because it might have something to do with the vagus nerve that runs next to your stomach. Hope you feel better...
