mizzmegan I haven't had surgery yet (it's Jan 14) , but mine will sort of be open. It's called mini open surgery. At one stage I thought I was having a Mini Bypass/Omega Loop due to my surgeon using the word "Mini", but I am definitely having Roux-en-Y. My surgeon advised the incision will be approx 10 cm long about the length of my palm. He said he expects the surgery to take approx 45 mins, so it means less time under anaesthesia and a quicker recovery, if all goes well. I also have had 2 Cesareans, and those incisions were approx 10cm and I healed very quickly with both those of those ops.

Hi I'm pre-op. I've been reading some studies on this forum which suggest due to the changes of hormones from the op, it may lead to depression in some people. I'm interested to hear from people that are post op. Overall ...... Do you feel happier? Depressed? Or the same?

Fantastic success story. You have been working so hard and are deservedly reaping the rewards. I'm sure your dog must be happy too ????

Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
WannabeH replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for your replies, it's good to see some of you have found this journey not as challenging as first thought. Only time will tell for me. I'm definitely a comfort eater so it will be interesting how this will affect my journey after my surgery. -
When did you guys start drinking regular coffee again?
WannabeH replied to ButterflyRainbow's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was told the same as jj7481. My nut said its the dehydration issue. Also she said coffee can spur on old habits meaning if you are like me, if I have a coffee I normally will want to eat something with it (coffee and chocolate is my ultimate food combo). My nut said I should stop at 2 cups of normal coffee a day. -

Dub I can only hope I will feel outstanding after surgery! It's so frustrating and a little nerve-racking being pre-op and not exactly knowing what awaits on the other side. -

Update: so I've turned the pain corner and today and feeling much better. I saw my dr today and apparently my drain dropped inside of me and that is what was causing so much intense pain. He removed it and I feel much better. I was also finally able to get some of the gas out of my tummy last night ???? super gross but oh so necessary. I'm snuggling my 1 year old right now![ Excellent news mrsob1. Glad to hear you are feeling better and your kids have you back again! ???? -

Mine said around 45 mins...I carry most of my weight around hips , thighs and I have a huge backside! So being a little smaller in the torso area, the Dr said it shouldn't take as long......hopefully! -

Serious Decison To Make

I'm another person who will be having the mini bypass. Mine will be in January. -
Hi , I'm Eve ,Australia. I had the ban removed 3 months ago after it being in for 5 1/2 years. Wan't overly successful for me. I'm having the Omega Loop in January so I'll be interested to keep reading posts from people who've had revisions of like mine. Eve I also have an MGB in January and and I'm an Aussie. I thought I was going to to have the Roux-en-Y until my appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he advised the MGB. So I'm re-educating myself. My impression is the post op diet is much the same as the Roux-en-Y, would you agree?

Thanks so much for you post. It's always great to hear from a long termer like yourself and with such a positive outcome. I'm pre-op and I'll find out my surgery date tomorrow. I hoping to complete a 7.5 mile run next September. I did this run about 8 years ago.

Hi I'm an Aussie and going through the pre op stage with doctors appointments etc. I've chosen Gastric Bypass because I'm hopeless at controlling my sugar addiction. I can sustain a non sugar diet for a period of time, but then sooner or later my willpower breaks....and I'm heavier then ever before... ( a familiar story..I'm sure). I understand the bypass is just a tool; but how effective is it in controlling sugar cravings. I'm sooooo prepared to do the hard work but I'm concerned my bad habits will deter my best intentions I would appreciate any feed back
