    Suggestions please!

Sounds a bit harsh. My surgeon prefers a 2 to 4 pound loss a week. Anything more and she considers it unhealthy (I'd prefer to loose more). So if it was my surgeon she would consider your loss heathy.
  2. Hi I'm 3 weeks post op and sip, sip my fluids. Does this ever stop? Will I eventually be able to take a 'gulp' of fluid? If so when were you able to gulp down your fluids?

    Day 1 (surgery 2/17/16)

clardoss once I received my surgery date It made it real and I became a bundle of nerves. I remember on the day of my surgery just before leaving home, I burst into tears. I had irrational thoughts like I was being selfish and I was concerned I was putting myself at risk for my family. Well 3 weeks post op those fears have gone. And as a former self proclaimed sugarholic, it's no longer an issue; apart from a tiny bit of head cravings, but for me they are easily pushed aside. Good luck !! ????

    Eating Eggs

Pre-op I loved eggs and was looking forward to having them again. I had puréed eggs after 2 weeks post op, and had no problem and I was pretty happy about it. Except 2 days later. like others have said here, they started sitting heavy and almost gave me little chest pains. So I'm avoiding them for now.
  5. OK first of all I get it......its just a tool ☺️ I am pre-op....and I know weight loss after surgery means a dramatic change in lifestyle and I am prepared to do the work..... and even my surgeon has said his patients finds this journey hard. But have any of you lovely post-ops found the journey easy or maybe better put...not as hard as you thought it would be?

    GB questions

I had a drain which was pulled out after the day of the op. The nurse said "this won't hurt a bit". I didn't hurt, but the drain was long then she expected. It was definitely a weird sensation, it feel like my intestine was being pulled out, but with no pain. There was also no discomfort for me once it was pulled out.
  7. I started this thread. I'm now 2 weeks post op. I had a small complication, a burst blood vessel after the op...I lost a lot of blood and ended up needing a blood transfusion...that part was very unpleasant! Nope it's not easy, not for me anyway, although I wouldn't call it hard. I would prefer to use the word challenging...... For me it's about regaining my energy and it's getting better every day. I started using my Fitbit last week setting small challenges. I started at 3000 steps. Today I did 6500 steps, so I'm up for 7000 tomorrow. I started purees today....yeah I can still eat eggs!...love em....although I can eat about 1 egg over 40 mins. Getting in enough Protein is challenging but I'll start adding more Protein powder to my purees. I'm not craving sweets. Which is amazing for me, I've been a sugar addict most of my life. I can look at cake, biscuits, donuts and now its like looking at cardboard. Ive been lucky with pain. I have had a tiny bit of muscle pain when I move now, but nothing to complain about, so that's been easy. My weight has been up and down, I've been sticking to the program, I lost approx 11 pounds post surgery....and in the past 2 days I've put back on 4 pounds.....what the????? I know there are stalls but really????? I know it just Fluid or maybe dodgy scales...I felt like throwing them threw the window this morning! So yes my experience has been challenging....but not hard, so far.... I'm still glad I made the decision to have this op.....now I just need patience.
  8. There is a chemical reason for it. My Dr explained our body metabolises Water differently after surgery. I prided myself on the fact I was a big water drinker before surgery but it just didn't quench my thirst after surgery. As per my Dr's suggestion I now put a little diet cordial into my water and it's made the world of difference; it now feels silky.

    Dealing with Depression

jessnell maybe you need to speak to your Doctor or Nut. It's important you keep up your nutrition. Also just remember it's early days. I'm approx 12 days post op and I do have moments of frustration. Just remember why you had this surgery done, and if your are having trouble then seek some help. ????

    Is it worth it?

I had the same thoughts about radically changing my body, but then I thought well in the past I had 2 Cesareans, and my appendix taken out when I was a kid....and I thought if I ever needed a hysterectomy I would have one (I haven't had the need for 1 yet). I decided I already had surgical intervention in my past so why not have surgery to get rid of the excess weight I've been fighting most of my life. I'm only a newbie post op.... only 10 days in it......I've already lost approx 10 pounds post op....so pretty happy so far.

    COFFEE

My best advise is don't stress too much. I also think you may want to just ween off the coffee as much as you can to stop withdrawal headaches post op. And just remember after the surgery the game changes for many of us. I drank an average 6 cups a day before I started the liquid diet, got myself down to 2 during the liquid pre op diet. Now 10 days after the op I have had 0 and not craved it once and my energy is coming from different sources. I think my main reason for coffee in the past was the sugar I was putting in it! Good luck.
  15. Sorry me again.....In regards to increasing your protein have you tried adding protein powder to your meals. I have been following a nutritionist WLS book and have been making vegetable soups and adding the powder. The soups must be pureed to a liquid so they can be sipped through a straw.....not that I would use a straw.....but just to give you an idea of the consistency. ????
  16. I'm just over a week out now. Just sip sip sip and yes water/milk will help you towards hydration. Also I loved water pre-op but I found it just was not satisfying my thirst post op. I remember my doctor saying to mix a little diet cordial into the water because for some reason it helps the body metabolise it better after having a bypass. So I've started doing that and for me it does make the water feel softer and more satisfying. Also In the first few days I had moments of panic and buyers remorse (I also had a minor complication, I needed a blood transfusion due to unexpected burst blood vessel after the op, but I'm over that now). I'm now on day 10 and although sometimes frustrated, I'm feeling mostly positive, although admittedly a little weak. You will get there, just trust in yourself and take the advice which is right for you. Also for the shoulder pain you may want to try hot packs and paracetamol it helped me. ????????????
  17. Hi I had my op 14/1. My procedure was one of the easiest my surgeon ever had. My liver was in great condition. After the op in the evening I had overwhelming nausea. The nurse kept changing my nausea meds over to make me feel better. All I wanted to do was vomit. In her good intentions the nurse said try not to vomit as it wasn't good for my newly bypassed stomach. About 3am I couldn't stop the overwhelming feeling, and then finally it happened, I vomited blood and lots of it, I'm not sure how much it was because I felt so unwell , but I do remember reaching for a cup and I know I filled at least half of it. Next thing my room was filled with nurses, they soon realised I was incredibly pale. My surgeon was notified and by 5am I was having surgery/endoscopy to repair the broken blood vessel. The next day I had several blood transfusions. I came home yesterday. My beautiful husband is looking after me well. My surgeon does not foresee any future problems because of the complication. I just feel quite weak now and have to work on rebuilding my stamina. Has anyone else experienced this complication?

    Burst blood vessel after op

I'm providing an update for anyone who may come across this later. I know pre-op I researched to my fingers were numb! I'm 3 days home now, and I'm feeling better already. I'm certainly not back to normal activity but my energy is slowly creeping back, and I'm feeling positive again about my decision to have the bypass. I have hardly any pain, and I have not taken pain medication for 2 days. I'm getting used to my new stomach and how much I can eat on the liquid stage, but it's going well. Best of all I've lost 10 pounds in 6 days post surgery!

    Nutri bullet or similar?

Nurse_Lenora" post="4046539" timestamp="1452265837"]Ok it was finally delivered last night..I used it to blend my powdered Protein this morning and I love it" I've been using the Bullet too. I'm on day 10 of my pre-op diet, and I'm enjoying making my shakes with this great little device! And it's easy to clean....
  23. I've told my husband, son and parents. I usually wear my heart on my sleeve and want to naturally share things with people, but I just find people overly judgemental and I can't deal with that right now. I have 3 more days to my op!!! May when I further along this journey my attitude will change.

    Veterans

Hey Stephanie, There is a forum for Veterans ....which may help you. I thing it's one of the sub categories under General Weight Loss
  25. Stayc_b_me I really hope things get better for you soon and you don't regret surgery. If things don't improve soon then I would be giving my surgeon a call. Or hopefully the post ops can give you some good advice. I'm currently 4 days in on my pre-op diet and my god I have been starving!!!! I was hoping after surgery most of my hunger will be sorted out, although I expect head hunger is going to give me a big challenge.
