Hi All, I am hereby confessing my eating sins. 1) I am not eating enough Protein. 2) I have started eating carbs again. 3) I am not measuring every meal I eat. 4) I sometimes have a snack between meals. 5) I can't resist the sweet deserts in the teachers lounge. 6) I catch myself eating when I am not hungry. 7) I have begun to fall back into the destructive emotional eating pattern. I only have about 23 pounds to reach my goal weight. Why am I sabotaging myself?? I feel so guilty. I need a pep talk.

I was banded by Dr. Norbert Richardson with the New Start program. It was a really great experience. It took no time to get the ball rolling and they were right there to answer any questions I had. I hope it all turns around for you and works out as easy for you as it did for me.

vkodaniel replied to Leona06's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went last Friday for another fill, that makes me at around 5 cc. Currently I feel like I don't have the restriction that I want or need. -

I am not full - Have I forgotton what full feels like?
vkodaniel replied to sarahbella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Two questions… 1)How many pieces of pizza did you eat before the lap-band? 2)Although you may not have felt full like you used to when you ate more pieces of pizza, was your body satisfied with the two pieces you did eat? From my own experience, I used to eat at least half of a large thin crust pizza, and I am amazed when I am able to eat only two pieces and feel satisfied. However, as I get farther out from my surgery date I do notice myself almost mourning the fact that I can not eat as much as I used to. Food just tastes so darn good, I find myself trying to trick myself into taking more bites just to experience the joy of eating. I am not really hungry, but when I am eating something that I can not physically measure (like when we eat out), I will almost always over-do-it. Anyway, two small pieces of thin crust pizza is a great thing if you used to eat half of a pizza like I did. Feel good about yourself.:tt2: -
I am a January bandster, and to date I do not use straws because it was on my no-no list. I just wanted survey others to find out if other bandsters are using straws. If so have you had any problems because of it?

I was not one of those people who bounced right back and went out shopping two days after surgery, although after everything I read I thought I would be able to do just that. In reality I had some pretty major pain going on. I was scheduled to take only three days off work and had to make it a full week. I work at a school and I had to do two lunch duties in a row. After an hour standing on my feet and wiping tables I would be in so much pain..It would take everything I had to walk back down the hallway to my classroom without crying. That lasted a couple of weeks. Now, everything is fine and I am thrilled with my decision to be banded. Talk with your instructors up front, ask them what will happen if you need to take time out and get off your feet. Do you have to do manicures as well? Perhaps you can do that while you are recovering.

Most men don't use pretty words, plain and simple. They just say what they think because it is much easier than beating around the bush. Now, what he said sounded very hurtful and would have upset me too, but if you are any thing like I was before my band, working out in the yard for even 15 minutes would have had me red in the face and panting out loud. Could it be that you were wore out after working outside in the yard all day, and he was worried about you? Perhaps you have mentioned your weight to him before and he did not see anything to worry about, until you spent a whole day doing yard work. The best thing to do is not to hold it in. Talk to him about it and ask him straight up what made him decide to say that to you.

My husband and I were having sex on the couch, he was sitting upright and I was straddling him, he looked up at me and whispered "You look like an angel up there". God, it still makes my heart flutter just to think about it.

Semi-Embarrassing Question For The Ladies... (Sex-Related)
vkodaniel replied to Angelyco's topic in The Gals' Room
It affects my breathing to have all the weight pushed down on me (hubby isn't exactly a small guy) as I have breathing problems (COPD). Knees are shot so I can't do it doggy style. Can't get on top and fold my legs under me like I am sitting on the fronts of my legs because of all the swelling in my lower legs. ***************************************************** Try laying face down on your matress with you toes on the floor and your fanny waving in the air. Your hubby can take you from behind without the pressure on your knees. If your bed isn't tall enough lean over the kitchen table, he will love it! -
That sounds wonderful. I can't wait to try it.

How easy or difficult has it been to lose weight with Lap Band?
vkodaniel replied to photo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love my band and consider it to be my saving grace. For me the surgery and recovery time was painful, and I have given up so many things since being banded. At first I wondered if I had made a mistake, but as I healed and lost weight I started to feel better on so many levels. Those changes would not have been possible if I had to rely on willpower alone. My band has given me the strength, the courage, and the confidence to move forward in life and become a healthier, happier person. -
They told me it was because of the excess air intake while drinking out of a straw. Personally I think I probably swallow as much air when drinking out of a glass. Not to mention I love McDonalds iced tea, but their cups are so flimsy when you take the lid off, and on more than one occasion I have ended up drenched, using a straw would be much easier. Thanks for the replies guys! Have a wonderful evening.

Any good cottage cheese flavorings?
vkodaniel replied to foxboro jim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Breakstone cottage cheese is the best one I have found as well. The great thing is you can buy it in a snack size which is perfect for me. I eat it for a snack almost every day after work. -
Question about pain at port incision
vkodaniel replied to windyridgemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded on Jan 16th and I had that horrible stinging pain around my port area as well. Anytime I was on my feet more than a few minutes, and leaned forward the pain would be awful. It took nearly four weeks for it to go away completely. I have talked to others who have had the same pain, so you are not alone. Hang in there and remember to rest whenever you can. It will get better. -
telling people about surgery
vkodaniel replied to nataliesnana's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded Jan. 16th and at first I planned to keep it under my hat and only tell those who needed to know, but very soon after my surgery people started noticing my weight loss and I found it easier to tell the truth about it, and I am glad I did. Most people I have told have been supportive and the majority ask curious questions, and that is ok with me. Have you seen the movie "Akeela and the Bee"? If you have, remember when they talk about having "fifty thousand coaches"...well I have found that being open and willing to talk about the lap bad has gained me a whole network of support I otherwise would not have had. -
Delicious slow cooker recipe....and only three ingredients...
vkodaniel replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok, here is one... Chuck Roast w/ gravy One large boneless chuck roast (fresh or frozen) Put roast in slow cooker and season with salt and pepper. Then sprinkle Teriyaki on top. Next put a layer of A-1 sauce on top, followed by a can of cream of mushroom Soup. Cut up an onion and throw it in along with a bag of baby carrots and potatoes if you want to. Let it cook all day until it is fall apart tender. This roast makes its own gravy, so mashed potatoes are a must. -
I was banded on the 16th of Jan. and sometimes when I am on my feet for too long I still get that horrible burning feeling it gets twice as painful if I bend forward. I don't know what it is but it is miserable. The good news is it gets a little better every day.

Encouragement needed...
vkodaniel replied to Funnkyness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything will be fine. It is natural to be afraid, I know I sure was, but then again I did not watch a movie like the one you did. Honestly, I went in to the surgery prep room, got on a scale, got undressed, sat on a bed and they put my IV in my hand and injected it with morphine. Within minutes everything became fuzzy. I remember them wheeling me into the operating room and I remember someone telling me to take four deep breaths and I don't remember anything else until I woke up a couple of hours later banded. I won't lie to you I hurt when I woke up and my body was very sore for about a week, but now three weeks later, I am feeling great, sleeping better and I have more energy than I have had in a very long time. -
I was banded on 1/16 and the first week I was so bloated and full of gas that I was miserable. I worried that something was wrong because I could not seem to get any relief. Finally as I got more active it got better a little every day. Just hang in there, you will feel better.

I am bad, I kinda skipped right through the mushy stage and went to soft meats without any problems at all. I do measure out everything ,and I only have 1/2 -3/4 cup food at a time. However, I have not yet felt full. The good news is that I rarely feel hungry.

getting banded on 1/28 and scared
vkodaniel replied to youniquegrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
U are not alone. I was so scared!!! I wrote the good bye letters to my children and husband, and even made out a living will. I am actually glad to read that I am not the only person to have these fears. The good news is I was banded on the 16th of Jan. and I am still alive and well! As a matter of fact I actually went to the high school track today and walked a mile without having to stop and rest. And the best part is that my blood pressure is already back to normal levels!! That alone is priceless to me. -
Why Am I Freaking Out ? Ideas to Help me?
vkodaniel replied to lepez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know what you are feeling. It was almost a full year between my first inquiry into lap band and my surgery date. I was scared of the surgery, I was scared of giving up my best friend (food), and yes I was scared of the change that would occur physically and emotionally. I was worried about the later because I know a woman who has had the lap band surgery and she has lost so much weight. I mean she has totally changed her body image, but that was not all that changed, her whole personality has changed too. She is getting attention from men that she never got before and she has started cheating on her husband as a result. I was afraid that I could change in a negative way too. But, I decided to face my fear and was banded Jan. 16. The surgery went fine, I am happy to report, and I am healing well. Right now at this stage food is does not seem to be as important to me as it used to be. It could be a result of the Dr.'s two week pre-op diet followed by a week of clear liquids, or perhaps it is the extra support I am getting from my family and friends. Whatever it is, I am happy I went ahead and had the surgery. Take your time and don't rush your self, when the time is right you will be ready. -
Take it from me, that last meal way of thinking does not get you through. I had my surgery on the 16th and before I started my two week liquid diet I did the same thing you did. As a matter of fact, I even scheduled my surgery to not mess with my "eating days". After three days on that Protein diet I wanted food! And that last meal thinking came right back to me. I told myself just one more meal, it will be ok. So I went to Subway and got a six inch club sauce on the side, brought it home put it in a bowl and cut it up with a knife like a salad and proceeded to eat slowwwwly. It tasted great, but I felt terrible. Just remember that quote "Nothing taste as good as being thin feels". And when those cravings start calling you go brush your teeth. Good luck,

Struggling with Postop Diet - Help Me!
vkodaniel replied to Jeni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 16th and was feeling exactly the same way. Last night I got in my kitchen and made a pot of potato soup and I put in the works, bacon, ham, carrots, onion. Then I blended it until it was smooth. It was sooooo good because it was the only thing that has been able to make that hunger pain go away for any amount of time.
