Did anyone have Medicare for their bypass? My file should go to the insurance coordinator this week. Since there is no pre-certification with Medicare, I am wondering how this part of the process will go?

Does Optifast weight loss count towards total weight loss expected after surgery?

My surgeon talks about a goal in terms of bmi. -
I was really hoping for a January date, but I finally have a surgery date!!!! February 8! I am so ready. I am now eating very low carb to get ready for my pre-op diet, and I am in the pool at least 5 hours a week. I've only lost 17 pounds so far but hoping to lose at least 8 more before the pre-op diet starts.

January Surgery Dates!

The Facebook group still shows up as closed rather than secret. But...my surgery date is now set for February :-( -
Medicare and Medicaid are entirely different!

I am anxious about the pre-op diet and am wondering if there is a good way to transition into it? What about doing low carb/ Atkins induction for a week first? I am thinking that would suppress hunger and carb cravings.

None for a year in my program, and none for life is recommended.

Easing in to pre-op diet?
citygirl1962 replied to citygirl1962's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah...it is the first few days I dread. Being very hungry is torture;-) -
My file was sent to Medicare yesterday. Since Medicare does not pre-approve surgery, I assume they are just verifying benefits.

psych meds with bypass

Since your body won't absorb all the medication, upping it as needed should not be a problem. -
For me it is only two weeks before surgery. I am interested in why he does it on and off. Did he ccountablem explain?

I have Medicare.

January Surgery Dates!

I was going to make it SECRET rather than closed. Anyone can see that you are in a closed group. Since I am not telling people, I need a SECRET group. I will get to it later today unless the group above gets changed to secret. :-) -

INSURANCE DENIED FOUR DAYS BEFORE SURGERY !
citygirl1962 replied to dlh16's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are these requirements in writing in your benefits booklet? If not, I'd file a complaint with the insurance department in your state, assuming you are in the US. Every state has an on-line complaint form. -
My psyche eval was the slowest part. Her report was held up a couple times for ridiculous reasons and when it finally was submitted, it got lost for another week. The waiting and uncertainty is maddening!

Starting PreOp Diet Today
citygirl1962 replied to courtnojudge90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you able to get in rigorous exercise while on the 2-week diet? -
Have you checked your insurance requirements? Some require a medically supervised diet for 3 or 6 months. They certainly want you NOT to gain.
-
File an on-line complaint with your State Dept of Insurance. Every state has an on-line form. It can work wonders!
-
I am talking about getting your surgery "approved," not what makes you eligible. There are requirements for surgery but no "approval" process. Medicare also dropped its specific requirement for a 3-month supervised diet.

Anyone else have a secondary insurance?
citygirl1962 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your surgeon need to get approval from the secondary insurance too? -
All my pre-op reports are finally in. The surgeon will review them on Tuesday and, if all is in order, the file will go to the insurance coordinator next week. Since I have Medicare as my primary policy, there is no pre-approval process. For those who have secondary insurance....do both companies need to approve or only the primary?
