I have highmark too. It took a little more than a week, but I'm told it can vary.

So exciting! The pre op liquids are tough the first couple of days, but you'll be done in no time.

A clothing swap would be wonderful! I wonder if CHRIAS or Christiana weight management would host something like that? I just took 4 trash bags of 18/20 clothes to goodwill, but when I went inside to look at other sizes I didn't see anything close to the quality of items I dropped off. Certainly nothing I could wear to work. Next time I'll post here first to see if anyone wants them.
  6. I could have gone home after one night but chose to stay for two since my husband had just had surgery to reattach his bicep muscle. And I wasn't ready to leave the hospital bed behind! Getting up and down is hard the first two days and we don't have a recliner at home.
  7. She didn't do a swallow test after my surgery because I was doing well - apparently the rest of the program will be following suit in the future. The nurses kept asking about it and when I said I wasn't having one they'd say 'oh, you must be dr. Halbert's patient.' ???? Also, she told me to take my thyroid meds whole instead of crushing, and at my two week follow up she cleared me for coffee and said I only had to follow purée diet for 2 weeks instead of 4 before progressing to soft foods.
  8. So happy for you both! Dr. Halbert is my surgeon too, and you will not be disappointed. All cases are different, but I had zero complications, my recovery has been swift and uneventful, and she is pretty progressive when it comes to plan of care. I pretty much interrogated her at my pre surgical appointment and she had nothing but patience and poise as she answered all of my questions.
  9. Yay for your approval, things really move quickly from there! I was not told I had to lose weight, but I know that is taken into consideration when the insurance company is assessing your case. I was told to lose or maintain and ended up losing nearly 20 pounds.
  10. Qt, the shakes are sold based on your BMI. I had 6 per day at $15 per day. You can but bars and Soups for an additional cost each. I decided to go inexpensive and just do shakes. I did all vanilla and chocolate. Honestly, they weren't tasty, so I treated it like medicine - something you have to do to get better. They were best blended with Water and ice. I supplemented with SF Jello and Popsicles, and broth. Drink plenty of water and crystal light and you'll feel full faster. I too have BCBSDE, and it took about a week and a half from submission to approval. Note that the surgeon's office submits once you've had all of your clearances done.
  11. thanks, redvet! feeling better every day. Trying to wait until my 2 week appointment to weigh myself, but it is so tempting! If anyone is interested, I have a full box of Optifast left over - 6 vanilla 1 chocolate- and would be happy to hand off to one of you. Not sure how I ended up with extra, but it's $15 you could save. Pick up in Newark off of Kirkwood Hwy.
  12. Thanks for asking! I'm doing relatively well. Hit my fluid goals for the first time today and am slowly easing into full liquids. Still walking frequently, but not able to get around so well just yet - having a fair amount of pain on the right side of my belly. This too shall pass!
  13. So glad you're home an doing well. I go in April 12th. How have you been the pass few days?
  14. I'm home now, and have to say I was impressed with Wilmington Hospital's care! Close to getting in my fluid requirements for the first time, and hope to start full liquids this weekend. For those of you nearing your surgery date, my must have for the hospital was gas-x strips and hard soled slippers.
  15. All done! In some pain and a bit nauseous but the surgery went great!
  16. I just got the call to report to the hospital at 5:30am tomorrow! First case of the day, so no extra waiting, thank goodness. I'm a bundle of nerves right now. Hubby had to have emergency surgery last Thursday to reattach his bicep muscle, so we're going to be recovering together... when it rains it pours!
  17. Dee, once I'm recovered from my surgery I'd love to meet at Glasgow park to walk! Redvet, my surgery is at Wilmington hospital- so excited you got your date!! Good luck to you!
  18. I have my surgery date!! 3/29/16 I'll be getting started with my healthier life!! Started the liquid pre-op diet yesterday and it is soooo bad. But I'm determined and will get through this! My surgeon is Dr. Halbert and I have my last pre-surgical appointment on Monday. I have a lot to do to get me and my house ready for recovery. Wish me luck!
  19. Any Horizon BCBS sleevers out there? Curious how long it takes from submission to approval. I'm impatient to get planning!

  21. That's awesome reluctantMANGO who's your doctor? Dr. Caitlyn Halbert is my surgeon. She's newer to the practice.
  22. I just got my final medical clearance, and am waiting for insurance approval from BCBSDE! I should get my surgery date from CHRIAS within the next two weeks. I am so. stinking. excited. Once I get the date I'm sure my nerves will kick in, but until then I'll be doing my happy dance!

I will be close, I think. I passed my final medical clearance yesterday, and they said it would be 4-6 weeks. I'm hoping it'll be the week of 3/28, because that's spring break for my kiddo and my husband can take off work to manage us both I should have my date within 2 weeks, so I'll let you know! I'll be at Wilmington Hospital as well.

I go to the PMRI building on Kennett PIke. I was there on the 30th, and my next is 11/12.
  25. I'm getting started on my 6 month pre-authorization, and I've been seeing Dr. Halbert at CHRIAS. Has anyone worked with her? I was assigned her as my surgeon when I went to the seminar at Christiana.
