  1. Hello, Saturday night I had a severe case of the dumping syndrome for about 6 hours. I got the excessive poop's from it and it was HORRRRRIFIC. Has anyone had light color bowel moment after the dumping syndrome? Everything was normal until this morning and I'm wondering if its the aftermath. I could barely eat anything yesterday from how bad I felt and my stomach and chest still feels sore from all the force of vomiting.
  2. Thank you so much! My band sucked! Thank God it's out of my body now. Also, I am allowed to swallow things much easier now. thank you!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hello! Sleeved on 11/8. Did any of you with a band to sleeve have a hiatal hernia?? Mine was fixed and so was my dilated esophagus. I needed to wait a year to get my esophagus back to the way it was. I know my insides are still a bit swollen from everything, but did any of you have a hard time keeping things down at first like when you had the band? Yesterday was fine, but today I was having trouble in the morning and now I am good again. I'm PRAYING / HOPING it's from me downing my drinks to fast. I never want to go back to not being able to down anything as I did with the band. Any positivity would be great right about now. As I feel scared and a bit down. Thank you!! Pre-surgery liquid diet

I have surgery tomorrow! WOOO!!! Anywho, your doctor didn't require you a full liquid diet at least a day before??? I put cinnamon in my Protein shake an now im freaking out. Ha. I know its not a solid, but ive been waiting for this surgery for too damn long.
  6. I know this has been MONTHSSSS but im on the same page as you! Have you gone? I have 4 weeks to go with options. I am also with Kaiser. The one I go to is in Downey. That is where I attended 12 weeks of the option classes. Since they don't do bariatric surgery there, I am having it done at Kaiser South Bay, in Harbor City. By Dr. Edward Mun, who I understand is one of the best surgeons in the country for this type of surgery. I went in, wanting the RNY, but Dr. Mun thought the sleeve would be best for me because I am considered high risk do to some other health factors. So yes, you do get to choose. But a GOOD doctor will also tell you his/her opinion and help guide you into a surgery that is best for you to succeed! Good Luck to you! P.S. Sorry about the double post! I hadn't realized I had already commented on this thread... @@bettyboop I know you had the surgery years ago but I'm thinking of going with Dr Mun...was he a stickler for you losing 10% of the weight before doing the surgery?

    Kaiser day of surgery

Oh Gosh, im totally afraid of this! Im taking the options class now and have 4 more classes to go. I've only lost 7 lbs so far and I'm getting a revision from my lapband I had removed in Dec. I currently weigh 184. I'm hoping with 4 more lbs, they wont deny me. I've attended every single class and always turn in my weekly work. Gahh..I feel like a lot of people aren't really on it it my class though. I hope I still get approved.
  8. did they you lose more weight after you graduated from the options program? I have 4 more classes, and only lost about 7lbs. Also, I had the lapband removed in Dec.8 last year and im awaiting a revision.
  9. My esophagus is dilated do to the Lap band. When I went for the upper GI it looks almost double the size a normal esophagus should be. How long does it normally take to heal? Apparently the surgeon who will be removing my lap band is the best one at Kaiser. Regardless if he’s good, I thought he was an a*****e. I felt belittled by his answers and although I could go for a second opinion I know I’m going to need to get the lap band removed regardless. He said it’ll take a year for my esophagus to heal but I don’t know if that answer was exaggerated as I felt all his other answers were. For instance: When I asked about how much weight people normally gain after the lap band was removed, he said many people even lose weight because you can actually eat the right stuff and my hunger would stay the same. I asked how long would it take for me to heal after the surgery, he said because it’s a simple procedure many people go back to work the next day but it’s up to me. When he asked if I drink, I said yes on occasion he told me I needed to stop. I said I don’t drink everyday and proceeded to show me what alcoholism does to your liver. OK, SIR, I AM NOT AN ALCOHOLIC. He asked me when I wanted to get the lapband removed (although NEVER) and told him after the Holidays. He was upset at my response and said, "I had another patient asking if they can get it removed next week, but I said NO because I thought you were going to want to do it." Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh okkkkkkkkkkkkkk,,,,,,,, my appt. is Dec 2. The nurse is GREAT and I told her what happened and she told me she would talk to him. After they spoke, it almost seemed as if the story changed. She told me he would like to see me in 6 months after the procedure to know how I’m healing and I would be able to do the sleeve. I’m trying with all my heart just to stay positive. Again, with a dilated esophagus that almost seems double the size, does anyone know how long it takes to heal? Are there any remedies, Vitamins to speed up the dilation recovery process?? Thank you. <3

esophagus dilation and lap band removal HELP!

oH WOW! Thank you for your response! Its been a whileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee since I posted this. Have I gained weight.. YUP. but it could definitely be worse. ha. Im sure ive gained about 10 lbs since December. I do count my calories... wlabout 3-4 times a week and do zumba 3 times a week with weights. It has been hard!! I am planning on doing the revision. and I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT YOUR BODY GOES IN STARVATION MODE!!!!!!! That was something that I feared the most!! and Its been OK..it could be so much worse. I am trying my best to be positive while I wait and go into the options program next month. I did honestly struggle with the band. everything always coming up... This seems like the longest wait ever.. but next month will already be 6 months.
  11. Hello! Tomorrow I scheduled to get my lap band removed due to my dilated esophagus (it's double the size). My lowest was about 155 and right now I'm 170. I've managed to maintain my weight for the past 1.5 years and I was told that I was a "special" case because normally people who cant eat and dilated esophagus gain A LOT of weight, so it's great I've maintained. Like most who hear the news of their lap band removal, my heart dropped and could not stop thinking of the weight gain ESPECIALLY after learning I can't have the sleeve done until AFTER 1 year. Ugghhhh... My goal is to go on Belviq and pray I maintain while my esophagus shrinks.. Any pointers? suggestions? recipes...? Some encouragement would be great right now!
  12. Jake, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your encouraging words!! I know it's going to be a tough year without the band, but it will be okay! In the beginning when he told me the band had to come out, I was completely devastated. The day of the surgery he finally answered my question directly in regards to getting a conversion... He said it doesn't matter if I gain, maintain the same weight etc, he would still do the sleeve on me regardless. This made me super happy and motivated me to keep trying to maintain atleast! I've heard way to many stories of people being denied a conversion after the removal but kaiser is different. It's the surgeon who makes the call. I did tell him the morning of I would be back in 6 months to check on my esophagus. His response was basically the same, sure come back and we'll check it out... But It won't matter. I'll still wait the year. SOB!!!! Oh well... What's a year for a life time of change? ????
  13. Thank you!! I know months are starting to feel like weeks now.
  14. thank you very much!!! I can't get the sleeve for a year. Oh man, I'm definitely not looking forward to this.
  15. Oh wow! See that's what my little brain thought too. It's not the esophagus... It's the stomach.. Apparently it's the scare tissue or something that has to heal. I wish I had your surgeon! Ha. I'm just hoping my esophagus with shrink in no time. ???? Thank you very much for your update!
  16. Hello! In two weeks I am getting my lap band removed due to my dilated esophagus. It's literally double the size The surgeon told me no one in that office will do a sleeve conversion until after a year of healing. Is that a true case for ALL Kaiser hospitals? I've read some people get a conversion only after 3 - 6 months of healing and don't know if this is just a Kaiser rule. Thank you.
  17. Was your esophagus really dilated as well??
  18. I've struggled with my weight all my life. My mom's put me on a diet for as long as I remember and never felt good enough unless I'd loose weight. The first diet I was on was Jenny Craig @ 7years old and throughout my teen years I've been on everything. After HS a "blossomed" to a whopping 243 and finally decided I needed to do something about it and went on weight watchers, lost 50 lbs and it was marvelous. Until times at home got darker. I became an emotional eater and gained about more then 1/2 the weight back. It's become a major psychological thing wanting what you cant have Fooooooooood. In 2007 I decided to get the lapband & it's helped me from eating less, but also the food around me was not as taboo. sorry for my rambling AND HERE'S MY POINT: I went for an upper GI last week and it shows I have a dilated esophagus. I went to the surgeon yesterday and he told me he needs to take it out. I was hoping for a conversion when they were already in there, but that's not going to happen. Maybe in another year I can get the sleeve, but in the meantime my esophagus needs to heal. I believe almost everyone who takes their lapband out gains all their weight. The thought of that devastates me. I feel a piece that's helped me feel better about me is getting taken away to return to the old days. I expressed myself to my bf and even some people around me and their answer is: EAT LESS! Just WORK OUT!. It's not that quite simple. I've read your hunger SOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAARSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS after. I'm scheduled for Dec 2 and as of right now I feel unbelievably defeated and can't help to think, whats the point of working out after or even now... if im going to gain the weight all back?? My plan is after I have the procedure I'm going to be on Belviq to help control my appetite. I'm so scared. Has anyone ever heard of people actually maintaining after removal??

    Lap band removal and mortified.

Thank you for your response. I am actually going through kaiser. So they're sending me to apparently one of the best surgeons. Last time I had a fill was 3.5 years ago.

    Lap band removal and mortified.

Thank you Lilly I'm actually going through kaiser. I have read that most dilated esophagus need to heal before any revisions. I WILL look into the hormone balance for sure though! Makes a lot of sense

    DILATED ESOPHAGUS LAP BAND REMOVAL

Ohhh!! OK. See with me I find it much easier to eat things like fish. I mainly go for that for Protein. I'm just hoping this still will stick! How long did it take you to recover after the band? Thank you again for answering my crazy butt.
