I've heard about this, but I'm not sure how to go about this.... and I'm not sure that my insurance covers it. Plus finding a doctor state side who is on board with low BMI vsg.... I'm hitting my head against the wall today.

Did your insurance cover you? I'm guessing not. How much did you pay? I'm not sure if I'll find a Surgeon here who is similar in price to MX. I'm gonna self pay, but I don't want to pay $19k

THIS!!! So accurate. I didn't realize how much it had been weighing on me until we talked and I felt so much lighter than before. Now that I know he's behind me it's so much more relaxing. Congrats hun! Thats aweosme!!! I wish I could have it done sooner and be on my way like you! How's the post op diet? Did they make you do a full liquid pre op? Did you have it done state side or in Mexico? I'm so happy for you!!!!????????????

I did it! And he was totally on board with it. His biggest thing was making sure I knew he'd love me either way and then flipping out when I said I wanted to do it in Mexico (hes worried about crime) thank you! It took me a while but I kept your comments in mind and it turned out much better than expected! How did your talk go?

@dr.altamirano you actually are the doctor I've been leaning towards on my surgery! I would love to Skype with you! Would you be willing to do two different sessions? -
Ideas for ready made stuff I can buy to eat?
JapGirl replied to wagyu's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Btw unflavored greek yogurt is a GREAT sub for sour cream in most dishes. I didn't like it in mashed potatoes, but everything else was fantastic and MUCH lower cal -

how does it taste in relation to normal mayo? gonna check this out too Thanks BLERD! very helpful going to make use of the crockpot at work ! I can't tell a difference. I used half olive oil mayo, half unflavored greek yogurt when I made potato salad over the summer for a get together, no one noticed the difference. -

ADULTS SAY THE MOST STUPIDEST THINGS!
JapGirl replied to hollybower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You aren't heavy enough You should just take X pill. X diet works do that instead Do you realize the changes you'll have to make? If you'd eat less and exercise more... Thats the easy way out (On here) You don't have any comorbidites, you shouldn't do it.... (My personal favorite) the only reason why you can't lose the weight this time is because your gut is imbalanced, take these supplements (which adds up to hundreds of dollars, and they just so happen to be a rep for X product) and then do it the old fashioned way -
I'm aiming for mid February or early march. That would be the best with my kids school schedule. Thats how I'm probably going to approach it. "This I what I'm doing, I'd like your support, but I'll do it without it."

I feel like I'm crazy for wanting this. I carry my weight well, so people don't normally look at me and see how big I am now. I mean my BMI is in the low 30s.... but the few people I've mentioned it to have said that "at your weight, I don't think it's needed".... grrr.
-
It's so silly but part of me wants to print off information and make notes on things I want to mention lol. Maybe while I'm at it I should create a power point ????????????

I'll try to be optimistic and keep an open mind. Maybe it won't as bad as I expect.

serious question for fellow "veterans"
JapGirl replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'll begin this by saying, I am not a veteran..... I'm not even post-op.... That being said..... I don't think your "irrelevant". You still have experiences others have not been through. You can still mentor, guide, and advise. That is still important..... BUT I have found that most veterans have become judgemental. Not everyone has a BMI of 45.... not everyone has blood pressure problems.... not everyone wants this because it is life saving.... some want it for reasons that aren't founded solely in medical issues. But does that make their journey any less significant? I think sometimes perspective (on both sides) is needed. Sometimes that person needs tough love, but sometimes vets need to remeber their roots. Once upon a time I'm sure people were harsh about your choice for WLS, and you needed somewhere to go and get support in a judgement free way. Shouldn't that resource be available for someone who is just starting their journey, even if you don't agree with it? For all you know you or another fellow vet may have just "dogpiled" on a newbie who finally got the gall to stand up for themselves and put themselves first. Now that newbie is hurt and feeling alone and has decided not to do it and his/her BMI could potentially skyrocket to a extremely high number or wait for a reason that is more "acceptable" like diabetes to set in. Many people on this forum who got up past the 250# mark have mentioned that they wish they would have done it MUCH sooner and taken control of their lives earlier on. Is it fair to judge someone who is doing just that? Posters still need people like you around. You have more experience with WLS and the after effects than anyone else here. And im sure if you haven't had it happen, you are in touch with someone who has. That is an invaluable resource to have.... but at the same time, this is a SUPPORT forum, we should all support each other, no matter the stage they are in. Just my two cents. -
Rant over..... Now about me im 27yo 5'7" and 195-200 range. My BMI is just over the 30 mark. When I was 18yo I was over 200lbs. I've struggled with weight my entire life. After I had my kids in my early 20s I ballooned up to my highest ever 250lbs. I worked my tail off, and like many of you I had to literally starve myself by subsisting on less than 800 calories per day to lose weight. I was largely successful and lost 80lbs. At 170 I was still considered overweight, but it was the smallest I had been since middle school and I was thrilled, not my goal (140lbs) but I was happy nonetheless!! Then I quit smoking about a year ago and gained 30ish lbs. No matter what I do I can't seem to lose it. I have spent 1.5 hours in the gym 4 days a week for months on end, prescription appetite suppressants, extreme low cal diets..... NOTHING IS WORKING!! It's eating me alive.... and the back pain..... geez. I had forgotten how bad it felt when I was overwieght. I want to get sleeved so badly, but I haven't discussed it with my SO yet.... I'm not exactly sure how to bring it up yet. Still working on that. Hes one of those "it's the easy way out" types, but I think that is mainly because he hasn't ever had to deal with weight issues of any sort. Hes been in the same pant size for almost two decades.

THIS HAS BEEN MY EXACT EXPERIENCE!!!! I'm extremely happy I stumbled on this thread! I was being torn down so harshly that I created a new account on BP. Apparently I'm "vain" and only wanting it done for "aesthetic" reasons because, yes I want to lose weight. But I also have a spinal disc disease that makes being over weight extremely painful.... and my kids are still young, I'd like to play with them while they still like me. It's interesting how the very people who hate to be judged and complain about being "fat shamed", and judged for their decision or for taking "the easy way out", are the one who are doing the EXACT SAME THING to me because I don't have high blood pressure or sleep apnea, you don't know my story..... either way I'm still obese. Does it really matter? ????

I've been wanting to go with BariatricPal but from the info I found on the website they won't accept me because of my BMI. -

JamieLogical that's exactly what I meant. I see alot of discussion on this forum relating to having a "buddy" with them in Mexico and I wasn't sure if it was really necessary. -

JapGirl replied to JapGirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I wasn't sure if you can go alone, which was my main concern. My SO and I have a very stable relationship, he just hates doctors and I'm not sure if he will be supportive. And even if he is supportive of the idea, we have 2 kids and they can't be left alone. Unless I can find a friend to go with me (which I doubt), I'll be making this journey alone. -

My SO is one of those "if you work hard enough" type of people. But he also has never struggled with weight. Hes been in the same pant size for 2 decades. So he doesn't understand, plus he hates doctors, so he will probably think the same thing.
