how long before u went back to work?
StephanieRaye replied to fee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery Thursday, and I'm going in on Monday. For the most part, I sit at a desk all day. I think you should be careful going back so soon. -
Jini- I'm on day 3 and I'm taking vitamins and protein drinks because I noticed that my muscles were aching. I figured that was from a lack of potassium or protein or both. Apple juice just wasn't cutting it. My husband got me the Isopure clear protein drinks from GNC- and they're not so bad. They're FULL of good stuff too.

I decided to get banded because: 1) I was tired of yo-yo dieting and putting my supportive husband through yet another diet. (he always ate the way my diet called for) 2) I realized that I can't love my husband the way I really want to until I'm happy with me. 3) For vanity reasons.

Hello everyone! I recently have been banded (Thursday), and I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for re: bandage care. I know it probably differs doctor-to-doctor, but can someone give me some general care instructions? Do I leave the bandaids on? Change them daily? If so, for how many days? When can I leave them off? Thanks in advance

I have stitches with steri strips. I changed the bandages today for the first time after a shower, and some of the strips came off with the bandaids. They're itching like mad, and I just figured they might heal faster if they were exposed to the air. I can't find the info from my doctor.

I'm an office manager at a RE/MAX office. I sit at the front desk and everyone notices what I do, what I eat, etc. The agents ask me where I'm going, or why I had to go to the doctor, etc. I recently had to have a conversation with my boss about some breast issues I've been having, so that he would understand why I had so many doctor appointments. I need some suggestions as to how to tell my boss I need off for 3 days in November. If I tell him it's for a personal medical reason, he'll wonder why I can't tell him (since I just told him every detail about my breast issues last week). I have to find coverage from our other office, so the girl I ask to cover me will want to know why. I know I don't legally have to disclose anything, but these people are accustomed to me telling them more than they need to know. Any suggestions? Anyone out there have a similiar experience? Not only will it be hard to get off work for the surgery, but also to explain the liquid and mush phases. Help?

Surgery Date...friday the 18th
StephanieRaye replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine is Thursday Jini- and I think we'll be just fine! I too, have been having cold feet, but I really can't pinpoint on what exactly is scaring me. I just want it to be over! Good luck on Friday. -
Get your booty off the chair and go to the doctor for your bloodwork because you KNOW that this is what you need to do!
-
Good luck My Genre and Bigman! I hope everything goes smoothly for you. I'll be there in a week and a few days! Be sure to check in when you get home

You are way too focused on your age! 63 is only a number. And why would you give up on yourself? Have fun! Live life! If you want lap-band surgery, get it done! Start taking care of YOU. You are only as old as you feel on the inside. If you feel old, then do something about it- because you're not! -

I feel your pain! Hubby and I quit 2 years ago- cold turkey- together. It was an experience to say the least. BUT- I will say this- It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. Good luck -
I've heard carbs should make up 50-55% of your daily intake.

Lap Band-Surgeons-Alabama
StephanieRaye replied to ALGal4ANewLife's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Tracy. Dr. Les Miles at Medical Center East does the lap band procedure. They hold seminars once a month (I think). I went to one and they quoted me $14,000. I don't think that included fills. My BMI is a tad on the lower side, I guess (at 35). They told me I would need to have comorbid conditions with a BMI of 35 or under for them to do the procedure, so I decided to go elsewhere. I've heard some people rave about Dr. Miles and his staff, but in my personal opinion- they were quite snippy and rude. Good luck! (BTW- I thought you had already decided on a doc in MX?) -
I can't comment on experience since I'm not yet a bandster.... but unfortunately we can't make it through life without things like this happening to us every once in awhile! So, spend the $30 and take your car to get cleaned

Dragon, I've never thought about it that way. What I get the band, I think alternating would be a great idea.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm just going to go with the "I'm having a minor surgical procedure". This way, when I do return to work, he'll understand if I'm groggy or not my self for a day or two. He can actually be pretty mean sometimes, so this way he'll try to be on his nicer side when I return. And it won't actually be a lie.

How Long did you wait for surgery?
StephanieRaye replied to robinem's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I spoke w/ my patient coordinator this past Saturday, and she gave me the option to schedule as soon as Oct. 25. That's not enough time for me to finish getting my funds together (self pay). So, I chose a later date of Nov. 17. -
Just posted this in the wrong place. (sorry for the duplicate!) Hi everyone! I'm (pending financing) ready to schedule my lap band surgery in Mexico sometime soon. My only issue is finding a close physician for fills and follow up if needed. I've called a few and got discouraged because they all said no to mexican band fills. I need some help! If anyone has any helpful information, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hello everyone! I'm in Birmingham. I feel like I'm on some crazy mission. My husband believes it is now an obsession and I think I agree. Once I discovered there was such a thing as the lap band, I've just gone mad! I'm on a search to find a fill doc in Alabama or Georgia because I soo badly want Dr. Kuri in Tijuana to do my band. I also went to that seminar Nickie, for Dr. Schmitt and Dr. Miles. I've called a lot of offices and they all say "no" to fills and follow ups for mexican bands. What gives? They get paid in the same cold hard cash as with any other patient. I won't go into that..... Does anyone know if BCBS of Alabama (ppo) will cover any fluoro for the fills? I've heard rumors of them covering some things, just not the surgery itself. Anyway, I'm so glad to have found some fellow Alabamians!
