I am now 6 days post op and all I can think about is a big, juicy cheeseburger and fries. Am I horrible? I just want some "real food". So tired of the liquids already. Thought about trying a scrambled egg today. I wasn't able to eat them pre-op due to a pseudo allergy. Really hoping it goes well. Now somebody tell me to buck up, put my big girl panties on and deal with it. I did this to better myself and getting all wrapped up in my pity party isn't going to help. *rant over* Thanks for listening.

I am 2 weeks post op and everything had been going great. A couple days ago I went for a walk and really pushed myself. After I got home the area above my belly button started becoming hard, red and warm to the touch. By that afternoon it was bad and there was a soft area in my belly button that wasn't there before. I called the surgeon and told her that I believed I had an infection. She called in some antibiotics and it began to look a little better. I had my 2 weeks check up with her yesterday. Apparently, I have a seroma where the incision/hernia repair is. After getting home from her office it burst. So much fluid came out! Now I have to go back tomorrow so she can debride/remove some of the skin that is now hanging from my belly button. I'm so scared! Hoping it will not be too bad. Anyone else have a horror story like this?
-
*Update* The debridement went great. I had no pain. Still having to pack it and it's still draining. It's going to take some time to heal but I'm glad there were no further complications. Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who has learned to help me do the packing every day.

After having my gall bladder removed 15 years ago I have had issues eating eggs. They cause really bad stomach pain for a whole day. I have had some trepidations about trying them since my sleeve. I figured I might as well get it over with and eat one. I will let everyone know how it goes. Has anyone else had this issue?

momentary stomach discomfort and gas burps with drinks post op
BamaNurse replied to valentinegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@itstimealready I can gulp water too. I'm 2 and a half weeks out. Still having trouble getting much food in. And have to take protein shakes really slow or I get sick. Kinda weird. -
I am a little over 2 weeks post op and I have had pain right in the middle of my back. It lasts for several hours. Both times I have experienced the pain was right after eating some deli sliced turkey breast. My surgeon cleared me to eat what I can tolerate. Apparently, the turkey ain't working. It goes away after a while but I am miserable for several hours. I had myself convinced that I have a leak earlier today. But I'm not having any fever, abdominal pain or nausea. Just the chest pain.

I have been drinking Premier protein shakes since my surgery on 10/28. They have recently started causing really bad nausea. Anyone have any suggestions on alternatives?
-
I'm willing to try anything right now. Going back to the surgeon tomorrow for my check up. She sells unjury out of her office.

Yeah, I don't think my will power would have been that great. I have a hard time watching my family eat meals. My hat is off to you.

@@rhino420 Please let me know how they are. Been looking in to getting some.

@@wright616 I may have to try those.

Who else had a surgery date 10/28/15?
BamaNurse replied to jbhernandez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery the same day. I rarely feel hungry. Still having issues finding things that agree with me. Just started trying pureed foods yesterday. Some days I feel better than others. I am gradually increasing the amount of walking I do daily. I had a hernia repair along with my sleeve so I'm still having some pain. Glad to hear from somebody else! -
I love eggs and would eat them all the time. Unfortunately my body just doesn't like them as much as I do. I tried one earlier today and I'm still paying for it now. So, no more eggs for me.

How much time off before returning back to work?
BamaNurse replied to Krztina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@WildGrits Most folks are back within a week according to my surgeon. I had a hernia repair at the same time as my sleeve so I had to take 2 weeks. Still not quite sure I'm ready to go back. I'm a nurse but I don't work on a crazy, hectic floor. I work 3 on, one off and 3 on. Not sure I will be ready to do that stretch quite yet. -
How much time off before returning back to work?
BamaNurse replied to Krztina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to go back next week. I will be 2 weeks post op. I think I am gonna ask the surgeon if I can take a couple extra days. These drains are still hitting me. Having one today. -
I'm a week out today. I have been getting my water in just fine but the protein shakes feel like a brick sitting in my stomach. I'm getting at least one in per day anyway. I mix unflavored protein powder with my soups and broths to make up for the rest. I still use a 1 oz medicine cup to drink my water. I don't feel as overwhelmed by a huge bottle that way. I know it's hard but you have to find ways to get your liquids and protein in.

Post op bowel movement
BamaNurse replied to c37king's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post op. I had a little BM a couple days out and it wasn't too bad. I wake up at 1230 this morning and thought I was giving birth to a 10 pound baby. It was the most horrible thing ever. I have been taking a stool softener twice a day but apparently it didn't help. Glad I'm not the only one with horror stories lol. -
I had surgery 10/28. I figured it was too early to have hormone dumps already but maybe not. I have been depressed all day. Wondering why I did this to myself. I know it will be worth it and I keep reminding myself of that. I have a couple of friends who have had the surgery and they talk about losing 25 pounds in the first week. I've lost 5. And this "liquid diet plan" the surgeon gave me as a reference is discouraging, to say the least. It says to take in 8 oz in 2 sittings. I'm doing good getting 4 oz in 2 sittings. And it's hard to get my water in when I'm having to wait 30 mins in between. Like I said. I know things will get better and everyone is different. I just gotta get past these first few days. I would kill for a big, juicy hamburger right now lol.
-
I am still on the full liquid diet and I'm getting tired of the protein shakes already. I tried some Greek yogurt with protein powder mixed in earlier today and it didn't settle well on my tummy. Anyone have any suggestions on different things I could try? I love savory foods and all the sweets are becoming a little much for me.
-
From what I understand liquids post op do not include pureed foods. I can't wait until I can start adding some pureed foods!

Thanks, for all the encouragement. Last night was rough. This is truly an awesome place with the best people.

Looking for sleeve buddy/mentor in Alabama
BamaNurse posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am scheduled to have my sleeve done on October 26th. Looking for someone who can share insight, whether they are going through it now or have been there and done that. -
@@saraburnett I completely understand how you feel right now. The depression is setting in and I miss food. It was always a comfort for me that is no longer available. We just have to work through this together.
-
I may try some pureed cabbage today. Having some horrible constipation and this usually gets me going. And it's a better alternative to the milk of magnesia.
