My name is Cheryl. I am 55. I lost my husband 13 months ago to cancer. After his death I gained 20+ lbs. I have fought being over weight all of my adult life. In August my liver enzymes were extremely high on top of other health issues. My primary care doctor referred me to the bariatric surgeon. I am very excited about the journey I am pursuing and looking forward to the NEW ME! My last step is to see the cardiologist on Nov. 6th for cardiac clearance. Then the request for insurance approval can be made. I feel I am doing well on my pre-surgery diet & am down about 14 lbs. I was hoping to have my surgery before the holidays but it’s starting to look like it may not happen until after the first of the year.
My sister had the sleeve done 3 1/2 years ago & has done really well. I vacillated between the sleeve & bypass but decided on the sleeve. I am second guessing myself & wondering if I have made the right choice. I went to a support group the other day & all the women I spoke to had bypass. My surgeon had recommended bypass due to the amount of weight I need to lose plus the fact I have GERD. He did give the okay for the sleeve after he did my endoscopy.
Just wondering if I am making the right choice to have the sleeve procedure or bypass.
I have worked as an office manager for 14 years but I am not currently working.
I live in the Pacific NW & love living near the mountains & water. I don’t even mind the rain. I have a 7 month old granddaughter and my son says I need to be around for her. I also have 5 step kids & 10 more grand kids. I enjoy spending time with them & want to be around a long time for all of them.
