  1. when you get to the rush hour traffic jam, just remember the 3 F's;fiber, fluid. and fitness. the more you move, the more you "move".

    300-350 lb workout plan

i did water aerobics and aqua zumba 3 times a week, 60 mins. walk, walk, walk. i just started a "land" zumba class, 60 mins, and got on an elliptical. i can do 10 mins level 3/incline1 before my thighs plead for mercy. maybe next time i'll try 12 whole mins. my surgeon said, now that i've lost 160 lbs, i should get OUT of the water. your body needs some low impact activities to prevent osteoperosis.
  3. make sure you are hitting your protein and fluid goals daily. not doing so will give you a MAJOR case of drag-ass. if you can't do longer periods, walk up and down the stairs every time there is a commercial on t.v. once you start to move(hopefully), the laws of physics will take over.

    Milestones

even though i am 3 pounds away, i had a t shirt made that says "HALF WAY". i wore it today and got applause. yeah me! (i even updated my picture).

    Any sleeve singers?

i sang a solo 10 days after my sleeve(not scheduled that way, surgery date was moved). i had to take little catch breaths in longer phrases, but my high notes soared! my range has shifted up about 3 notes. was a bass with some strong low notes, now a baritone, heading into lyric baritone range! i'm 6 months post op and STILL use the spirometer (breathing thing with the piston)4,5,6 times a day to increase lung capacity. i have been singing bass since 7th grade, these new high notes are fun!
  6. for the front page of my food journal i made a sign, in great, big letters(36 i think)"BECAUSE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT..." Are you tracking those"bites"?... just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD... any food that goes into my mouth, i must be sitting at a table, eating from a plate, with silverware. no standing in the kitchen munching from a pan...no sitting in front of the t.v. munching from a bag. you're starting some bad habits that could kick you in your it's-not-as-small-as-i-wish-it-was butt. just be careful and good luck.
  7. i'm 6 months post op. have lost 157 lbs with 48 bmi. i have been doing Water aerobics 3x per week. i went to(and finished!)my first "land" zumba class of 60 mins. i have also just started on an elliptical(very hard!) i can do 10 mins on level 1/incline 1. i don't have a phone i can download apps on. i'm looking toward spring and the possibility that i will be ABLE to enter a race is mind bending. PLEASE, tips for training.

    Water intake

at 5 weeks out i was drinking 80 oz of fluid a day INCLUDING my smoothies. i kept fluid next to me at all times; from when i got up until about 8 pm, or i would be up all night. experiment with bigger sips, small mouthfuls and see how it feels. you almost need to have the mentality of a nurse pushing fluids on a feverish child. i am almost 6 months post op and routinely drink 96 oz a day. for me, this is enough and i will stay at this level. this helps with keeping things moving, too. congrats on your successes.

    Why only puréed fruits?

it is the fiber that can cause problems. i was told only no sugar applesauce or banana for fruit. veggies; butternut or acorn squash, sweet potato, fat free lo salt refried beans. spicy,lo salt V-8 was my best friend. at 5 months i still have a glass every day. even when you get to full foods, you may have to over cook broccoli and cauliflower and chop it well.

My sense of smell has gone bonkers.

only certain things. fast food smells, pumping gas, truck exhaust, an old beater with someone smoking in it, very close to hurling. my surgeon said that it is the anesthesia that rewires only some peoples brains. unable to predict this. he also says it may decrease, may go away, or not. this was NOT in the pamphlet!

What can I do with...cottage cheese?

shriracha, curry powder, pumpkin or sunflower seeds(FULL FOODS! be careful with seeds, chew really well or grind in a spice mill), mixed into a scrambled egg with salsa, mixed into diced chicken and dried cranberries as a chicken salad.

    Post surgery rash

probably adhesives. i also had bad rashes and VERY gently washed the area with hand sanitizer to remove the adhesive. i switched to gauze pads and paper tape. i also had a reaction to the bp cuff left on during surgery(plastic?). i do not have a latex allergy. the above, benadryl, and time took care of it.

    GOOOAAAALLLLLLL!

what a great christmas gift! i bet it even fits... i'm coming up on "half" and that's a great feeling.
  16. this is major surgery. i had to jump thru a lot of hoops. my insurance denied me at first. had to be cleared by heart and lung drs. because of apnea. once approved by insurance, my surgery date was set. pre surgery just met with anesthesia. once to this point it's pretty much a go. it seems like a lot, but this is really a big deal. trust me, it is worth it!

    Beef Jerky

"Tanka Bites" is a soft square buffalo jerky. no problems in full foods stage(4 weeks for me). organic and much lower sodium than most.

    Tattoos

a concern for me as well. a half sleeve®, shoulder and upper arm(l), and across my upper chest. so far things seem to be fine even with 150 lost. REALLY glad i never inked my stomach or thighs! not really many options any way. better health is by far the best ink i have ever had.

11 months out. Just ran my 4th 10K!

i'm still in the bronze age, so the only apps i get are at a restaurant. i would like to dangle the carrot of a 5 K in front of me. i've lost 150 and am 365 today. don't think the knees could handle it yet. any suggestions on training. i do 60 mins water aerobics 3 x a week, and have JUST started on an elliptical (15 mins level 1). IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN BE IT.

Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?

i wear "chef wear" pants. baggy and elastic waist. largest 5 X, currently 3 X. at my healthiest i wore a 32 square. i don't think i can get to 32 without a little snip, snip here, snip, snip, there. getting into a 38 would be like crossing the bridge into "onederland". just about half way there!

    kombucha

i used to drink kombucha pre op for probiotics not in a pill. i'm 5 months post sleeve today, and am eating a little fermented foods daily(sauerkraut, pickles). i am about to start making kefir. does anyone drink kombucha? it is VERY mildly alcoholic and effervescent. would that little bit of carbonation cause problems? i'm just trying to make some really smart/healthy choices.

    360+ pounds?!? help!

my starting weight was 515. too high a bmi for lap band. other than my size, no other health issues. so no medical reason for bypass. my doctor steered me towards the sleeve(a decision i had already made after much research). one month of liquid pre-op, 480 the day of surgery, 365 today. a 150 lb loss on 5 month post op date. i am very happy with my choice. it is saving my life. do your research, but follow your heart. good luck!
