I'm not in Modesto but I'm not too far away in Sacramento. My band has played there a couple of times though! -
Chloe I have Health Net. I was required to complete a lot of tests (endoscopy, pap smear, psych evaluation, EKG, and lots of lab work) but a sleep study wasn't one of them.

Hi Chloe, Dr. Eslami did my surgery. I think it's Dr. Eslami that requires weight loss before surgery not the insurance, I don't know about the 6 months worth of weigh ins though but it was something I had to do. It did include the weigh ins with the dietician I had to see before being able to be seen by him though.

The only ones I know of are across from Methodist hospital in the South Sac/Elk Grove area but they are free and open to everyone. I need to make it over to one of those myself. Here's the 2016 schedule with the address. http://www.slimlifesolutions.com/pdf/seminar-information-location-2016.pdf

Hi Lisa, I had surgery on June 15 and am also in phase 3. I'm just finally starting to feel normal again after being readmitted to the hospital for dehydration and an infection. I'm not far from Orangevale in Citrus Heights but I go to the 24 Hour Fitness on Auburn and Van Maren although I haven't been back in since surgery and I have mainly been using the pool until I work up to the machines. I'm looking for someone too. You should update your profile to show your surgery date and info so it shows in the forums!

Oops! I just swallowed a pill whole
Ruin's Angel replied to ACJordan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told if the pills are very large to cut them into pieces with a pill cutter or to crush them. I also take Bariatric Choice's new All-In-One chewable Vitamins. They include everything so I don't have to get any extras on the side. I was paranoid about swallowing my Omeprazole capsules so I open them up and empty them into my yogurt. -

Gastric bypass versus sleeve for the 300+
Ruin's Angel replied to Phynale's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I first posted in this topic back in January. I had my first appointment with the surgeon on February 11 and he asked me which surgery I wanted. I told him the gastric bypass then he proceeded to tell me that he wouldn't do the bypass on me and would only do the sleeve because my BMI of 64 (weight was 399) at the time was too high and it was too risky then he told me to lift up my shirt and show him my belly, then said again I was too big. I was dumbfounded! Most doctors prefer the bypass for the heavier patients so I don't understand this at all. Then his dietician came in and said I had to lose 30 lbs before surgery but on my next appointment with her I saw paperwork that said 40 lbs. I'm waiting on my 3rd appointment on May 4 to clarify this but I'm down 21 lbs so far. I'm extremely frustrated because I've been going through this process for exactly a year now because their office keeps rescheduling my appointments. The day after my first appointment I had my endoscopy and it showed that I had several ulcers. I was put on Omeprazole and I think they are healed, but if I am prone to ulcers, isn't this yet another reason to do the bypass over the sleeve? I've had lots of time to mull this over while on my pre-op diet and I am convinced that I will fail with the sleeve and I know my body and I feel the bypass is what I need. I haven't seen the surgeon again since the first appointment so I'm hoping having had the ulcers will change his mind, but I am seriously contemplating looking into changing doctors if he still insists on only doing the sleeve. He tried to tell me I could do the sleeve then revise to the bypass, but why would I want to go through surgery twice if I don't have to? Also, my insurance is covering this 100% so I really doubt they will cover it a second time. My surgeon's office is a Center of Excellence and he has even appeared on TV a couple of times advertising his surgeries on a news show. Any thoughts on all this? -
Hi Elaine, which 24 Hour Fitness do you go to? I live in Citrus Heights and go the one on Auburn and Van Maren.

Hi Meldyer, nice to see another person in Sac here! We are the same height but my starting weight was about 50lbs more than yours. I saw on your ticker that you've lost 72lbs, congrats! How much did you have to lose before surgery and how much have you lost since?
-
Congrats Papi and Taralynn! I'm on my pre-op supervised diet. The surgeons nut verbally told me on my first visit that I have to lose 30lbs first but the paperwork I saw on my last visit said 40 so I'm not sure how much I have to lose exactly but I've lost 12 of it so far. I've been really irritated with my surgeons office though because I got approval to meet with the surgeon back on Nov. 20 but they didn't get me in there until Feb. 11. Then the Dr. asked me which surgery I wanted and I told him RNY and he said he wouldn't do that one on me because my BMI of 64 was too high and said he would only do the sleeve on me. That was really disappointing and confusing since most doctors prefer the bypass for the patients with a higher BMI. I've been pretty disappointed but trying to get used to the idea of the sleeve. I'm just afraid of failing with it. So far what was supposed to be a 6 month process has turned into almost a year.

Welcome to the BariatricPal Singles Forum!
Ruin's Angel replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Singles Forum
Fairly new here, having surgery in the next couple of months. I think a singles site/page is a great idea. I like the thought of having someone who is going through, or has gone through, the same thing I am and has to eat the same way I do! -
New Dating Site for Bariatric Patients!
Ruin's Angel replied to LoveAfterWLS's topic in Singles Forum
I just signed up for your site! I have been deleting myself off the BBW dating sites I'm on (that I never had any luck on anyway!) and I thought how cool it would be to find someone that has gone through or will be going through the same thing I am. It would make eating meals so much easier! I just wish more men knew about it but I will share it in my groups! -

Hello! I live in Citrus Heights as well. I'm getting ready to meet with my surgeon. I'll be having mine done By Dr. Eslami at Methodist in South Sac. I've been trying to find others that are getting ready to get surgery or already had surgery through them as well.

Gastric bypass versus sleeve for the 300+
Ruin's Angel replied to Phynale's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I joined a couple of bariatric support groups on facebook and listened to those that have gone through both procedures to help me make my decision between the sleeve and the bypass. After a lot of research I have decided to go with the bypass and here are my reasons why: 1. Sleeve is not recommended for people with heartburn and acid reflux and I have a problem with this. 2. I noticed a lot of people that have had the sleeve reported frequent stalling of weight loss as well as more frequent regain as opposed to bypass patients. 3. I also need the discipline that gastric bypass provides. Just knowing I may dump from eating something bad (whether I actually do or not) is enough to stop me from eating it. I am afraid that knowing I would be able to eat whatever I want with the sleeve is going to make me do just that, and that may lead to overeating since I have problems with portion control and eating when I am not hungry. Good luck with whatever you decide Phynale! Btw I am 392... -
EGD before surgery
Ruin's Angel replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Is EGD the same as an upper endoscopy? That's what I have to have as well as a mammogram and pap smear. Already did the blood work and chest x-ray.
