Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to ladymacwhiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5'1. 11 weeks out on Thursday 12/4/15 and down 33 or so lbs. I have 29 lbs to my first goal. I attached my most recent photo. The left is me at my high weight of 266. The right is me at my current weight of 179. -
Did anyone become lactose intolerant AFTER surgery? I've never had an issue with lactose before but I've noticed recently that I've been having diarrhea the past few days and the only thing I can think of that's causing it is the fact that I drink my Protein shakes first thing in the morning with skim milk.... What else could be causing it?

I have that also and I'm glad to see that I am not alone in it. It is a bit embarrassing but I just figured I'd better get used to it. -
How have your labs been? I have not had any; don't go back to the doctor until Dec 1.

Advice from vets
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to seaux_beautiful_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I will always be with myself is honest. I didn't expect this to be easy. I didn't expect it to happen very quickly I just wondered what other's did. My surgeon was very honest with me that my loss would not happen as quickly as some other's because I didn't go into this weighing the most. I did it because I was diabetic and they could not regulate my blood sugars. I have been fortunate enough to go through this with my best friend who had surgery as well and I have not kept it a secret. I've only had one person, my sister, tell me that I took the easy way out but that's because she's fat and she's jealous. Lol. So it's okay. I realize people will have opinions. I don't have to let them bother me. I am actually good with the way the weight is coming off though... I haven't been 184 lbs in a very long time and so to be here at this stage in my life is amazing to me. One day at a time is how this journey will go for me. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. -
For those of you who have had surgery over a year ago and who have hit your goal weights, what things helped you in being successful and doing so? I'm down to 186, which is a weight I have not seen since I was 15 years old. But I'm wondering what else I could be doing if anything to be successful at this stage in the game? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What are you eating? Getting enough Protein? Working out? Stalls happen but it may help to keep a journal of what you're getting in. Are you getting enough fluids?

Carbonated Drinks

Yeah my surgeon said never again... and I'm alright with that. While my love for Pepsi was tremendous, my love for myself and the reason's I had the surgery to begin with are far more important to me... So I can go without soda. -

I haven't had this issue although from what the nutritionist said it's due to not getting enough protein -
I don't take Centrum but I have been taking Women's one a day gummies. My surgeon said they were fine.

"I hate to answer a question with a question but what are you doing now? What could you do more of? What should you do less of? For me, I have found exercise to be a really important factor in my success. I workout 3-5 days a week, I still take my Vitamins and I still supplement my Protein. Success = keep doing what works and quit doing what doesn't. " Well I'm only six weeks out so..... This is why I've asked. I'm still in the learning stages. I work out in some form daily... With the exception of Sunday's. I'm following the book to a T... but I wanted to know what works for others. -

Sleeve restriction Question....

As for not drinking with your meals; just don't have a glass or cup of anything around to drink while you're eating. IF you're at a restaurant ask them to bring your Water AFTER you're done eating. Otherwise it will be tempting to do what you've always done. This is definitely a learning experience. I'm six weeks out and I still can't tell sometimes. The thing I do know is that stomach acid mimics the feeling of hunger and that can cause an issue too. -
No more than 30 minutes per meal? How does that work?
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to Runner1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm six weeks out today and I'm barely up to 30 minutes. I drink my protein shake in the morning, and then try to space my meals out every three to four hours.... Some days I do well... other's I don't. But I find that with my protein shake in the morning I'm not really hungry for HOURS after. -
Protein Powder advice Please!
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to mokt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use unjury. It's medical grade and they have an unflavored one and you can mix them with anything. They are recommended for bariatric patients and the only kind I've been able to tolerate. They also have a sample pack which is good for figuring out if you like them or not. -

I am so sorry to hear this. I'm not sure if you're a praying person or not but I will say that I am praying for you. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, had surgery and is well. We believe in the power of prayer but I can only imagine how difficult it must be to go through this, especially after making changes to fix your health. God be with you and God bless. -
The Plateau From Hell
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to gdub23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've noticed the past two weeks that I've been stalled as well. I refuse to worry about it though because stress can make the stall last longer. When it's over it will be over, I'll just make sure that I'm paying attention to what I'm eating and drinking. -
It's been over 20 years, since I've seen this weight!
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to TakeitorSleeveit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is awesome. Congratulations! I know how you feel. I'm 35 but I have never weighed 185- until now... I went right from 160 at 15 to 218 because I was pregnant and had toxemia. I'd gotten up to 266 but now I'm 185 and ecstatic about it! Way to go! -
So I am six weeks out from surgery this week and I can do each and every one of the things on this list. You have a lot of stipulations it seems. I've eaten bread (probably shouldn't have yet) I've had fruit. I've had vegetables also. They are actually recommended in my plan. I'm not a drinker so I have not had any alcohol. There will be a period after surgery that you are unable to do these things but I guess it would be a matter of losing the weight once and for all and what you ARE actually willing to do to make that happen. The benefits for me far outweighed any of the OMG I'll never be able to do this again in my life. I was a Pepsi lover, I can never have a Pepsi again and I'm okay with that because if that means that I'll be healthy then oh well to heck with Pepsi. I am a stomach sleeper who could not do so for the first four weeks after surgery but I can now, I have no issues sleeping on my side or my stomach. Also from what I understand all patients are prescribed reflux meds after surgery and told to take them for two months. At least we were.... I hope you make the right decision for you for the right reason's.

What's the best protein bar?

I tried the pure protein chocolate peanut butter one today and it has a weird taste to me... I'll keep looking for one with a good amount of protein and a good taste. -
Does anyone here have a weekly surgery vlog that they do? I'd love to follow you if so. I have one. You can find me under seauxbeautiful vsg. I just think it's a good way to let other's know what you're dealing with. The obstacles and the victories.

5weeks post op
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to anna9/15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been sleeping just fine. I had anxiety issues previous to surgery so they haven't subsided but my sleeping has not been affected at all. If you're having those issues now and you haven't before it may be best to contact your doctor to let them know that you're experiencing those now.
